Breakfast was very good. Staff in all departments very helpful especially man on reception and breakfast staff.
Bed too hard. Other guests inconsiderate when they went to bed at 3 am and woke up another resident's dog. Our room No. 50 required upgrading and was near stairs!
The breakfast was enjoyable. The reception & breakfast staff couldn't have been more helpful.
It felt outdated rather than hold an old world charm. It seemed run down rather than charming. Not having a good nights sleep. The bed should have been replaced- it was very uncomfortable, lumpy and creaky. No being able to get a drink at the bar before going out for the evening.
Yummy good value breakfast Friendly staff Amazing location Lovely old building
Tiny, lumpy uncomfortable bed Cost more for a single room than a double Walls in serious state of disrepair Redecoration needed Impossible stairs for an old lady Had to pay to enter an antiques show located in the hotel - turned out to be a load of old tack
We liked the location and the overall feel of the hotel which is good - mainly due to the excellent service and positive attitude if te staff - without them this hotel would be a disaster
We didn't like the poor furnishings and general poor standard of the decoration both in the main hotel and our bedroom
Traffic noise Poor mirror lighting - difficult for applying makeup. Dirty tiles round the bath
no smoking room stank of cigarette smoke moved to another room. dirty bedcovers. unwashed coffee cups
Friendly welcoming staff, comfortable clean room, in keeping decor with hotels age and history well presented, good food.
Could not fault it.
Location handy for many sites. Room clean and comfortable. Staff friendly
Beer, Pool table, the sandwich, the rooms
Poor levels of English by the staff led to a misunderstanding that eventually cost us >90 minutes. We ordered and received sandwiches just after 12. When buying a round ot 1350 I informed the bar staff we would be ordering a late lunch in an hour. They omitted to say the kitchen would be closed by then. Took us 90 minutes of driving around to find a place that was open. Bed very springy.
Room service not great. Bathroom sink cold tap did not work and bathroom not cleaned nor toiletries topped up on a daily basis. To impossible to understand. During the week my stay unfortunately coincided with a large group of contractors working nearby. A school trip of 100 14 year olds would have been better behaved. Despite complaining of men running up and down corridors at 4am and a door knocking game all night the staff were unable to take control. Weekends coincide with coach trips. This means it is impossible to get to the bar, book a table in the restaurant or park in the car park as the coaches take up all the room not to mention the scrum down for breakfast. Not recommended.
Staff friendly and helpful. Lovely hot water. Excellent grounds for dog walking. Very quiet at night.
Some of the furnishings are in need of a little TLC.
We liked the outside looks and the history of the hotel. All the downstairs was very nice and pleasant. The staff and the food was very good .
We were there for leisure and xmas shopping, the room was not comfortable ie. No comfy chairs to relax. We felt every thing was done with conferences and buisness people. We suggest it would be helpfull if when booking people were asked if it was for leisure or buisness when booking.
The staff could not do more for you, lovely full English breakfast and a fabulous dinner, great value and will be back.Great sized room with a 5' double bed.
The shower dripped and the bed was a little hard fine for me but too hard for my partner.
Lovely restaurant and lounge area Very friendly staff
Outside and the lounge
staff was very nice, rooms were clean
The bed was completely outdated with an old rag rather than a duvet. Also by asking for a proper duvet, they did not have any available. In the end we went to a superstore in Banbury to get one just for the sake of having a normal night's sleep. Furthermore you pay for wifi £2.50 per day but just for one device. A little unreasonable.
Er...the bed was comfy
Being addressed as "my good sir" about 10 times in a 2 min conversation at check in....£7.50 for 3 nights WiFi that didn't work , no apology or offer of refund... and finally heating that was either on Chernobyl setting or freezing the balls off a brass monkey...regardless of what setting the radiator was on
Politeness of the staff, but about 80per cent of staff were from abroad and many couldn't understand much english. The bar meal was average or the price. The location suited us very well.
The hotel looked very 'tired'. The room was very outdated, but bed comfortable. The bar meal in the evening was served on cold plates.
It is like an old peoples home at the bar - mismatch Groups of furniture with Eastenders bleating on the TV. We ordered Burger and chips, the fryer oil has obviously not been changed for years - chips were soaked in dirty fat. Room was so tired, bed nearly collapsing on the right side, itchy blankets and pillows so flat. The whole place needs updating. Ordered breakfast early but it did not arrive - disappointing.
management attitude, very helpful.
catering staff unco-operative until senior management intervened
Location was good as we planned to visit Blenhiem Palace over the weekend.
The food wasn't very good at all. We were also woken by the fire alarm going off and nobody actually told us what was going on. I just saw one member of staff run past our room!!
How helpful the staff were The character of the building and history. Cosy warm friendly atmosphere. Restaurant
The countryside around the hotel is of course some of the most beautiful in the world.
No lift. Miles to walk to your room. We refused our first room as the sheets had not been changed and there were suspect stains on the walls. Our second room was better, however carpet under bed was disgusting and had not been hoovered in decades! The restaurant was just dreadful, tatty, slow, poor quality, overpriced. Very hard to feel at home when all the staff (bar one) were Eastern European. But then as everyone working there was on the minimum wage, what can you expect? - this is modern Britain.
Good staff. Reception, dining & lounge areas very pleasant and comfortable.
Room 33, very poor mattress. Generally tired decor upstairs.
Service Food Staff
Room cleanliness Poor quality mattress Noise at night from other rooms
