Comfortable and welcoming Really good food
Friendliness of the staff, nothing was too much trouble The staff all appeared to be very happy which reflects on the service Excellent food Comfortable, welcoming A sausage for the dog at breakfast Good size room (No 2 at the Sally)
Can't really think of anything for this bit!
The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of towels. A good amount of tea and coffee supplied. The lady who served us in the Sally was excellent and worked very hard during very different circumstances. A man (I assume was the owner) also made a point of coming to check all was good with the meal.
Not being given a room in the hotel and only finding this out by my phonecall on the day of arrival to the hotel to confirm booking. Staying in a flat 500m down a slippy, badly lit road when we were led to believe we had booked a room in the hotel. Poor communication prior to stay - emails left unanswered. Bathroom was very dated and dirty. Shower curtain, bath and tiling all needed a good clean. Fixtures and fittings throughout were all poor. Nothing like the photographs on the website! Had dinner at the Sally which was priced as a restaurant but seemed more like a pub. Need to decide which it is. On departure, Gill was rather abrupt and when we said the light in the kitchen didn't work, she implied we had broken it and offered no apology. She also didn't ask whether we had enjoyed our stay. She spoke rudely to other staff also whilst dealing with our checkout. All in all, we were very excited to be spending new year at a traditional English pub we had visited on several occasions and had good food and drinks. The photographs on the website of the sleeping accomadation and bathrooms look top quality and therefore we were terribly disappointed that our experience of our stay was so far away from our expectations. We really wish, having booked this earlier this year, that we should have been warned of this prior to arrival so we could have considered our options. I have emailed the hotel to state our disappointment as it didn't seem appropriate to discuss at checkout due to staff appearing quite stressed. Yet again, however, I have had no response
Superb location and weather was excellent for the time of year.
Room 1 was so, so small. As a bedroom it would suit only a single bed. Really struggled to move round in it. Bashed my elbow squeezing past the sick getting into the shower. I stayed previously in a much bigger room so we were disappointed.
Food was excellent
Rooms and the beds were on the snug side of things.
Setting .laid back and casual a very good and relaxing 2 days will return
The warm welcome and good personal attention. Also our meal was excellent.
We thought the drinks at the bar were expensive
Comfortable rooms, quiet location. Fantastic choice of food, ales, & wines.
Traditional English Hotel and very friendly staff.
No lounge area.
Location, The excepetional friendliness of Julie. The food was Awesome and the cottage was first class.
all of it
Friendly, helpful staff, excellent food, comfortable accommodation, all within the sights of Blencathra !
Had to come home!
Good bed. Very comfortable The pub is rustic.
Bit disappointed with the meal. Fish over cooked and cold.
Owner friendly, bed comfy, restaurant good.
Rooms small and noisy from bar below. Expensive for facilities provided compared with other nearby establishments.
The food was excellent and a very good choice on the menu. All the staff were extremely friendly.
Our room was at the Salutation Inn. Had difficulty sleeping as there was a continuous noise from a fridge or fan located outside Also, the local foxhound pack were very noisy one night, but this was no fault of the Inn
Staff were very nice people, couldn't do enough for you. Lovely hotel/pub, nice decor throughout. Food was excellent, nice wine too.
No dressing table in the bedroom to sit in front of to dry your hair and put your makeup on.
Friendly Staff Good Food both dinner and breakfast Location
Room a little cramped
Very nice cottage and facilities
Poor lighting in the village
The owners went put of there way to help you. We missed breakfast on the last day and they insisted on giving us free coffee and bacon sandwich
Price of the evening meal was a bit expensive but the food was very nice.
Food, Location, Friendly staff
A bit cramped
We were made to feel welcome by all the staff as soon as we arrived. We had booked a last minute room for the two nights and when we arrived we had been allocated the small cottage attached to the inn which was lovely. Made to feel totally welcome and will definitely return and recommend to all.
Location. Friendly and welcoming.
We stayed in the 2 bed cottage adjacent to the Horse & Farrier and were extremely pleased with everything from start to finish. Once we had made the booking we were contacted by the Inn to see if we wanted to book a table for the evening we arrived just in case they were full by that date. We thought this was extremely thoughtful and, once we had arrived, we were so pleased that we did. The food was excellent, the staff were so attentive and overall we had a wonderful dining experience and can see why the Inn is so popular. The accommodation had everything you could want or need, especially if you are walking as there is also a washer/dryer in the cottage for clothes etc. The cottage was clean and cosy and just a short walk from the Inn - perfect at the end of a hard days walking. The staff were all very friendly, took the time to chat and couldn't have been more helpful. Our overall experience was fantastic and we would not change a single thing. Our 14 year old son loved it so much he wanted to stay longer and asked if we could go back again for our next walking holiday. We'll definitely be returning in the future. 10/10 ***** Our thanks to all the staff and we hope to see you again soon.
- very friendly staff - very cozy atmosphere - good beds - location very central - large parking at the house
- hint of wet smell on the ground level (top floor / bedrooms no complains)
Food excellent Staff very attentive and helpful.
Double Room small and over the kitchen. There was noise from the kitchen fan and the room was stuffy. This was a last minute booking and although not cheap, we know most of the rooms are better than this because we've stayed here before. Also would benefit from more tables and chairs for residents to sit and have a drink at busy times. I was very surprised to pay £4.10 for a pint of real ale!
