Score from 157 reviews Very good
Could not fault this place. Great food, beer, location. Most importantly its was a great place to take yourself and your dog away for a weekend away. Plenty of local walks. Recommend the hidden "waterfall" walk that is a short drive away.
Only thing was the length of the bed, but saying that I am 6ft 4" so its would not be a problem for most people.
Lovely country pub, friendly staff with excellent food and beer with a very nice ambience
I enjoyed all aspects of our stay at this welcoming traditional pub. Our room was outstanding. Thank you all!
Middle of the country, perfect break from the city life. Friendly and accommodating staff. Very well equipped room.
Was a double bed rather than a king
We had to take our dog, she was allowed anywhere in hotel and staff made a fuss of her.We only had to pay £10 extra and it made our life much easier being able to take her with us. Staff were great, breakfast good and location suited us.
nothing not to like!
the atmosphere. friendliness of the staff and guests. choice of food and ale/beer. our room was amazing. would definitely visit again when we are in the area.
Quaint location, good room size, access to public house, food very good, staff very good, free parking.
No stand up shower ornate bath only, breakfast starts too late, meals at night finish too early.
Everything Great food, great beer, great room, great staff. What more can you ask for?
The atmosphere of this friendly, old country pub, and the size, appointments and comfort of the excellent room - especially the superb, large bathroom. The quiet of the night, and general thoroughly relaxing atmosphere and experience. Also, an excellent breakfast!
The metal-framed "4-Poster"in Room 3 is ugly, incongruous and wholly detracts from the otherwise excellent ambience of the room. Also, the room lends itself to a bigger double bed ( although the bed was, in fact, extremely comfortable).Visitors need to recognise that this is not a "restaurant with rooms", but is first and foremost a pub with a pub restaurant menu. The evening menu is standard pub fare, good for what it is; but fine dining it is not!
We stayed at the Hunter's Rest on a trip to see Bath Spa Uni. We arrived very very late. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. They stayed till after 1.00am to let us in. The twin room we had was lovely. The breakfast was very good indeed. What a great place! Highly recommended.

Attentive staff. Excellent food. Comfy cosy room with beatiful rural views over the Somerset countryside. Excellent location for nearby cities.
A little noisy til closing time and no separate shower.
We had a lively 2 nights at the Hunters Rest. Great room, lovely surroundings and perfect for Bristol or Bath. The staff was so warm and welcoming and the food was brilliant. We will definitely stay again - soon!
Only think I can think of was no full length mirror - I couldn't see what my new shoes looked like!
Modern rooms, Great atmosphere at resturaunt below, Staff were excellent!
Nothing at all
Staff Food & Room were all lovely.
Bath/Shower is a little difficult to manage but ok
This is an Inn with a very large table capacity - and they are certainly needed, as the place really 'buzzes'. Dinners were very good, and Breakfasts were perfectly acceptable. The room was fine, though it could not be described as modern. I took a liking to the owner, who was always quick to acknowledge our presence. The location - though remote - was handy for travelling to Bath and Wells.
The remote location involved a few miles of nervous travel on very narrow roads - though judging by the volume of customers each night, I may be the only one who is faint-hearted. Dogs are obviously welcomed, but I personally really have no wish to be surrounded by yapping dogs when eating my dinner, and have little time for those who subject others to this annoyance. Again, it's only fair to say that there was little evidence of others being overly concerned with this.
The bedroom was spacious and the bathroom was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The general ambience was relaxing. A romantic stay!
EXCELLENT FOOD. ROOM SPOTLESS CLEAN,AND TASTEFULLY DECORATED. STAFF VERY ATTENTIVE.
PASSING TRAFFIC EARLY MORNING,WITH WINDOWS OPEN.ROOM 1 HAS 4 STEPS UP TO BATHROOM,WHICH CAN BE A CHALLENGE TO A DISABLED PERSON,ESPECIALLY WHEN DARK.BATHROOM COULD DO WITH A SHOWER CUBICLE.
Quality room for little cost.Good food large portions
Everything was spot on. The room, Food to die for fantastic breakfast, nothing too much trouble brilliant staff.
Very nice room and ensuite Welcoming especially staying with dog Good to have pub facilities and meals Excellent breakfast Large car park Dog walking close
No shower cubicle
Balcony. Room was well equipped. Staff very helpful, friendly and attentive. Great breakfast.
Carpets could do with a wash and clean. Dusty and tired in some areas. Some of the sheets are beginning to look worn.
