convenient for my business appointment. No breakfast till 8am! I had to leave by 7.45 so was given a cold bacon bap from the night before- yoghurt & fruit would have been more appropriate. Warns may have road noise- an understatement! Busy race track from 6am.

A friendly countrside inn with a pleasant and very comfortable room. Plenty of space and comfortable beds. Would use again and recommend. No real complaints, a little renovation in places could improve the rooms but generally everything worked.

Very good staff, good bar and very good kitchen service. A lot of potential. The TV's don't work and nobody knows why. The mythical manager ( the type that are never there but serve as an excuse why things cannot get done) and even the owners ( who ignored the issue) were not able to help. And then there is the noise; something approximating music resonating through the building with the bass set to vibrate your molars. All the way through to 12.20 a.m

Staff friendly and helpful, Evening Meal in pub very nice. Overall it was a useful location for us, and had all the basics that you need. Rooms are basic, my double was roomy, but overdue for decoration / update. Two friends single rooms were next to road and bad traffic noise due to old poor fitting windows, which needed double glazing. Did not notice that is was continental breakfast - not English - but we had enough to eat, and staff were friendly / helpful though

We liked the rural situation and the quaintness of the building. I feel the bed could be improved. The sheet on top of the mattress without any mattress protection was a bit off putting.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, they could not do enough and were certainly ready to go the extra mile to make guests comfortable. The menu was excellent and the food was very good. Sorry to say but the bed was the most uncomfortable I had ever slept in, the mattress was in a very poor state, The duvet could do with replacing as could the pillows.

The food (evening meal) was excellent - good value for money and nicely presented with good portions, probably above average price, definitely above average taste. Also breakfast was ample even though only continental option Traffic can be heard in front rooms (not a main road, but busy country road), although the propieter said that the back rooms are quieter and can be requested. Not particularly a dislike, but as not a 'dedicated' hotel, visitors need to be aware that main doors close with Inn/restaurant closing times.

Liked the idea of staying at a gastro pub for an event I was involved with. Food was good. Room was tiny, and the WiFi was extremely intermittent. I booked for two nights, and the pub was closed for a wedding the second day - if I'd known this when booking, I wouldn't have continued with the booking, since it meant I couldn't eat at the pub the second night, and it's in a small village miles from anywhere, so alternative options were limited. The staff member who told me it was closed said I couldn't even have a drink at the bar while the wedding was on, so I rather felt banished to my room! In fact, I did go down later and the manager was fine about me having a drink at the bar as a resident - but it was a bit of a downer on the weekend. For £45 a night, I didn't expect unbridled luxury, and my real reason for choosing this particular place was the fact it was a gastropub - so to find I couldn't eat there on the Saturday night was a real pain. I realise this is probably the fault of the online booking system rather than the pub itself - if I'd phoned up to book instead of doing it online, I'm sure they would have pointed out that the pub was closed the second night.

Ockley is a nice little village with lots of interesting buildings and some good country walks. The pub was in a family style and the food was a fairly restricted version of the family style menu - not really as diverse nor as 'upmarket' as the signage and reputation might suggest, but OK. The room was very compact, which explains the budget-tag, but this one suffered from too many other issues to warrant the price - which was still at the full end of budget. The furnishings are 'tired' - a 70s wood slat blind, for example, and two bits of formica as a wardrobe. There was no bedside table and lamp, so to read in bed you had to have the main light on, and then get up to turn it off. The biggest problem though was the noise. The room was directly onto the main A road and even through the night there were cars tearing up and down.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was good. The pub was lovely. My room (single) was small. The window was difficult to open but opened onto the a29 - busy road. Ask for a room at the back - much nicer

I found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful at all times. The rooms were clean and you did not feel rushed to vacate at the leaving time which many hotels/inns like to do. Sunday roast was also very tasty! I would have liked a good old English breakfast in the morning (which I would have been happy to pay for) instead of just the free Continental
