Location

We were first put in a room overlooking the cow feeding area! The smell was not wanted. We asked and were moved. My wife was served a bar meal of what was called a "Leek & Potato Pie" it did not come in a dish and it had a small lid but no sides or base and had hard uncooked potato in it! We were given a refund of the cost. At both breakfasts there were no hash brown as they had "run out". I did offer to show them how to cook them as I knew they had hard potato's. Sad but we will not return again.

Wonderful location. Friendly and helpful staff. Very pleased with our room - the four poster (room 12) was a lovely surprise

We both enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere,the friendly and efficient service,the lovely surrounding countryside and the excellent food and wine.

Absolutely fantastic location in Dovedale. Walks all around the hotel, and Buxton, Matlock, Bakewell etc. are all reasonably close by car.

The Izaak Walton Hotel is in a beautiful location where you can just relax and take in the scenery. The staff are very friendly and the service around the hotel and in the restuarant/bar was excellent.

Location for our mid-week break. Excellent room - Room 33 looks directly over fields to nearby hills. Very friendly atmosphere.

Small criticism, but inevitably sharing with a wedding party means it gets quite crowded and means individuals loose out to the group for shared rooms etc !

My room wasnt ready untill 7pm which didnt give me time to relax, bathe before our reserved meal time.

The location was outstandingly beautiful, the staff were professional, friendly and helpful, the food was superb. Felt like we had just stepped into another life for a couple of days. Totally relaxing. Can't say enough good things about this hotel.

Could usefully upgrade to modern duvets for bed linen (we had blankets - nostalgia!)

Spacious and attractive bedroom with close parking. Pleasant dining room with good views. Good cooked breakfast.

Separate bedroom block with no views. Unacceptable levels of noise in bedroom from jacuzzi baths and extractor fans in adjacent rooms. Bar area uninspiring and bar menu disappointingly ordinary. Two rosette restaurant food OK but service and ambience did not match up.

continental breakfast could be improved, i ordered this on second morning then found out no croissants left. would have been good to have some ham & cheese available and make sure they have croissants available for the whole of breakfast time.

Comfortable hotel which is in an amazing location which is what makes us keep returning .The restaurant staff are excellent. Food is good but portions are very small even for the ladies. Breakfast is good and the restaurant itself is very pleasant with nice views.

Rooms need updating and restaurant was not quite as good as the last 3 times we have stayed. Portions smaller and no canapé soup as before with 3 courses priced at £35.00 . Menu also limited to 3 choices. Bar is a bit hit and miss regarding service. Toiletries in bathroom barely adequate.. Having said all this the location makes up for the deficiencies and there is cheaper food available in the bar but I cannot give an opinion on this as we used the restaurant both evenings.

The Location

Poor service. Uncomfortable bed. No duvet, sheets to small for bed. Small room, no chairs in room. Wine in bar served from small plastic bottle as if on airplane. Limited menu in bar.

Location was wonderful. Setting and the hotel and grounds were really nice. Room was large , good bathroom and bed. Price of room was very good value. Carparking access and signposting good. Ideally placed for access to wonderful walking country around dovedale. Beds were made each day.

Breakfast was mediocre very poor waiter service. Ordered champagne for room and received perini. They were breaking the law selling rose perini as champagne and I may report this to authorities. Paid £60 for champagne chocolats and flowers. Evening meal is very poor value we had monkfish for eighteen pounds just a few forkfuls of food in the middle of a large plate.

relaxing environment and dog friendly too although we didn't bring ours will do next time. set in nice location.

Did feel that it could do with a little refurbishing, carpets very worn and bedroom bit dated , generally a little bit of tlc

service and staff were excellent, all staff warm and friendly. location beautiful and views stunning, lots of room in hotel for "rain" so you can still sit amd appreciate the location.

Bar menu was very restrictive and although well cooked, portion sizes were a little small whilst the meals themselves were very overpriced! Such a shame considering the quality of service/

Very good staff Food good Location superb

Hotel is set in beautiful countryside. The room was very spacious and clean and a very nice touch having our towels made out of swans. It made a good first impression.

The 1st morning it took someone 20 minutes to even acknowledge we had sat down for breakfast, Service was very poor and rude. 2nd morning wasnt much better and people were being served before us that sat down after. The 3rd morning the service was quicker but not any friendlier and the toast had mould growing on it. If there busy then fair enough but politeness costs nothing. Charging hotel guests for WiFi is an absolute joke in this day in age, should come with the cost of staying at the hotel.

On our second morning at the Izaak we went down for breakfast, ordered 2 full english. We waited 45 minutes and 4 couples were served before us even tho we ordered first. I spoke to the waitress, they finally brought our food- I had burnt scrambled egg and my partner had a raw fried egg.I told the waitress who said it was the chefs first time at doing a full english-clearly not as the 4 nearby couples had also had full english. She offered to change them but after 45 minutes we couldn't bare to wait any longer, and now had to rush to get our things packed intime for the 11am checkout. Very disappointed. Maybe they were just having a bad day?
