We needed accommodation for us & our two dogs for a local event, The Jester was in an ideal location for us. Both us & our dogs were given a warm welcome, all the staff were very friendly & helpful. We'd probably go for an executive room another time for a bit more space (but then we did have a dog bed too!). The Jester is set in beautiful countryside with endless walking opportunities & there is a station within waking distance if guests don't have a car. We ate in The Jester both evenings & the food was good, not fine dining but perfectly acceptable. Full English breakfast was very good. We'd certainly stay again if in the area.
If you're a light sleeper, traffic does whoosh past intermittently at night/early morning.
Lovely, friendly and helpful staff.
The staff were friendly, the room was pleasant and the breakfast was very good.
The railway noise.
Staff and food
busy road can be noisy if windows open as they need to be in summer
I have stayed here a few times, and they are are always fantastic, staff are super, the foo is excellent and the rooms are great - so much better than a cooki cutter corporate hotel!
Food was good and value for money. Staff helpful and attentive.
Room was poor quality. The lock for wardrobe was a folded piece of cardboard! Light over bathroom mirror, did not work. Road was noisy and secondary glazing inadequate.
Staff were friendly and very helpful. The location was ideal for my visit.
The shower was very poor, needs replacing or some TLC. The breakfast was not as good as previously experienced - in particular the sausages!
Staff, atmosphere and food.
Wifi worked but could not cope with streaming, may be due to this part of the uk Im use to London.
Decor needs updating
The staff were good, the food price of food and drink the comfort of the room links to surrounding area by car or train station over the road the whole of down stairs good
hotel a little tired in places
It was good to have meals available on arrival, a welcome feature when arriving from a far distance. It was also quiet which was restful.
The menu for breakfast listed in the room offered gratefruit as an option, however this was not available when requested. This was dissapointing!
I was happy to find The Jester Inn. What a lovely place, my room was nice and comfortable the food was amazing and the staff were friendly. I miss this place already and would definitely stay here again.
staff were really friendly food to a high standard
Returned first meal, then decided on curry. Had to return this as I could not eat it. Member of staff informed me the chef had used a new ready made up sauce and was not used to it!! So gave up eating.
Bar area was very good with comfortable seating. Outdoor area was quiet and had a lovely garden with sufficient seating. We had evening meal which was very good and prepared and presented to a high standard. The breakfast English was very good and plentiful. The rooms were very good and had enough storage for all your clothes.
The kitchen Staff Atmosphere
Staff very friendly and helpful Very good breakfast with a quick efficient staff
Dinner in the evening needs to look more attractive and be more interesting. Too much choice on the menu. Need to narrow down menu and have a very good quality food
Owners very approachable and helpful. Breakfast.
Staff were very friendly and the service was very good. Breakfast was good with lots of choice.
Rooms are looking tired and the shower could be better.
Very close to railway station. TV worked well.
Lights in bathroom weren't working - no window, so very dark. Also the basin hot tap wouldn't turn on - the whole tap turned instead. Not the end of the world but I informed staff at reception for the sake of the next guest. Their response was: Tap - 'we already told them about that'. Lights - 'the trip switch must have gone'. They didn't think to say 'sorry for the inconvenience' or anything like that. On a previous visit the shower wouldn't work (different room) and at checkout the staff member just shrugged. The Jester makes me feel like they are just collecting the money and don't care about the guests. So I normally stay at different hotels in the area which have friendlier customer service.
Staff were really friendly rooms are clean and a good size and the food is always great. I am a female traveller who travels alone for business and feel perfectly safe and welcome at the Jester.
Very nice hotel with great staff and food
The staff were pleasant and the breakfast good.
The hotel is very tired. The hot tap in the bathroom wouldn't turn, other things were faulty and the bedroom was dreary.
Friendly and welcpming staff
Bed too soft and scrambled egg microwaved which did not work
