This 16th-century inn is in the beautiful Wye Valley, in the cider orchards between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye. It has free on-site parking, free Wi-Fi, a traditional bar and a modern restaurant.
Score from 260 reviews Fabulous
Located in the pretty country village of Lea, this 15th-century bed and breakfast has a traditional bar and restaurant with wooden beams and 3 real fires.
Score from 83 reviews Very good
Great staff, comfortable room, good food and drink.
Rooms are above the Bar / Restaurant so its noisy. Wi-fi does not work in the bedrooms. No breakfast before 8:00. No check out before 8:00 either as no one is about. Dogs sat in the bar area where people were eating. Very remote.
Fantastic food - great menu and reasonably priced Seemingly no expense spared whilst renovating. Fab en-suite - with great water pressure.
Bed was a bit creaky The smoke alarm beeped every few minutes and couldn't be isolated - I was ok, as I took my hearing aid out, but my companion wasn't quite so lucky.
Friendly, welcoming and accommidating staff. Beautiful, reasonably priced food. The pictures don't do it justice!
There was an annoying beeping Heard from the room every few minutes that sounded like some sort of alarm. It didn't, however, disrupt sleep.
Rooms very well appointed and superior room a good size.
Menu too 'fancy' for us. Needs a little more attention to the cleaning, like cobwebs.
The room was excellent with a lovely, comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom and plenty of hot water. Good tea/coffee-making facilities also and flat screen TV.
Despite the restaurant being really busy, our evening meal was disappointing, not being particularly flavoursome. Also, it is normal for the waiting staff to check whether there was any problem with the meal, but this did not happen. However the breakfast was excellent with a good choice of menu. Unfortunately we found the staff lacking in good PR as, at check-out, no-one asked if we had enjoyed our stay as is normal and we just paid and left.
Quality hospitality in an off the beaten track location. Village pub showing strong upward mobility. Friendly and cheerful welcome.
Couldn't check-in until 5.30pm. Convenient for owner/management but not quite so for long distance travellers. Waiting staff less than 100% concentrating - had to ask twice for jug of water. Minor gripes.
Bedroom, tranquil and picturesque setting, evening meal, relaxed cosy atmosphere.
Excellent location, friendly efficient staff. Lovely meal. Would definitely recommend the kilpeck inn to others.
An excellent find.We shall be back.
A slight problem with room lights if one member of the party wishes to fetch something from their car and requires the outside door key, leaving others in the room in darkness.
Friendly staff, great rooms, lovely food and good beer.
Limited wifi, not very strong in rooms but good in the bar.
good room, good staff, good food; peacefull location.
Green credentials - bio-mass heating system, solar energy, locally sourced produce. Quality and style of the recent conversion, not to mention the excellent service and warm friendly atmosphere. Great peaceful setting. Don't miss a visit to the church and castle mound!
What's not to like?
Great Hotel, good staff attitude (they know your name - I think there's only 4 rooms) and very helpful. Monnow room is great and plenty large - nice sized bathroom too. Would recommend.
It is off the beaten track but that's just Kilpeck for you - it is a hamlet so provided you understand that and have a car, no issues. Only fault was they were resurfacing the road!
Practically perfect only downer was less than hot shower but staff apologetic.
Need to address hot water, sporadic and only just warm for a couple of showers (there were 6 of us). Staff apologetic.
Everything was great unti Sunday evening but then they put on an event in the pub downstairs we were trying to have a quiet break away inthe country, but instead we got vey loud banging music the walls were shaking it was so loud which gave us a headache all evening so I would not recommend this place if you want peace and quiet
Glorious setting Delicious food Stylish and elegant renovation.
Room was clean and well equipped. High standard of fittings. Excellent breakfast
Only staff are behind bar, not able to assist too much. Bed sheet needed to be changed. Only feather pillows and duvet available
Booked two rooms (Monnow & Wye) at short notice and would have been hard pressed to find a more idyllic location. Kilpeck is a picture postcard village, located about a mile off the main Hereford to Abergavenny road, complete with village green, red telephone box and a giant oak tree planted in 1806 to commemorate Nelson's victory at Trafalgar. The Kilpeck Inn ( The Red Lion in bygone centuries) poses a question on the bar wall whether or not it is the most Eco friendly Inn in England such is it's attempt to be as green as possible in every aspect of business. It's impossible to say whether or not it's claim is justified without visiting all other Inns (a chore we would happily undertake) but what we can say is that the beds are the most comfortable my wife and I can recall sleeping in. A beautiful mattress and crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and duvet cover. This is an extremely high quality establishment, from the staff, the level of service, the quality of food and the beautiful bedrooms (complete with complimentary toiletries). The only blemish on an otherwise perfect stay was being woken at 5.30 by the local cockerel who had obviously decided that if he was awake then everyone else should be as well :). He seemed to have a couple of friends close by who joined in the early morning chorus at one stage before the wood pigeons got in on the act as well. It should be said that we did have our windows slightly open for ventilation purposes and my parents who were in an adjacent room with closed windows didn't enjoy the same wake up call. All in all a lovely (and all too brief) stay at an Inn that we would heartily recommend to our friends
The Pesky cockerel ;)
Worst coffee I have ever tasted
The food was amazing. Staff very polite. Room was clean and tidy. Lovely little place. Will definetly be going back.
Couldn't find any faults.
Wonderful peaceful location in pretty village. The church is definitely worth a visit and also the short climb up to the castle remains for the view. Excellent food with mostly friendly staff.
Would have liked to have booked in earlier as we arrived at lunchtime. A visit to Abergavenny filled in the gap but a freshen up would have been welcome.
Its remote, but that's no bad thing
Could not pick up the room key until 17:30, and there is little to do in the immediate area to pass the time
An expected surprise providing a very good ending to our holiday. We hope to return.
