There was a noisy generator or machine which kept us awake all night :(
Friendly helpful staff and excellent food, evening and breakfast. Parking permit provided to park in street.
Could be a problem finding a parking place at times.
Friendly staff Comfortable bed Great shower Perfect for just a place to rest
The place was absolutely spotless
Nothing at all
Very friendly staff from the moment we entered the pub. If you like pub life it's a good local place to go. I was impressed with the range of food, drinks (they do pretty good cocktails). Lively without being roudy. We had the cooked breakfast on the Monday morning even though we'd come down late (not having read the times correctly). Well appointed accommodation not affected by pub noise. Very convenient for centre of town. All very good value.
There was a generator/machine hum which affected our room although I managed to sleep OK. Not sure what it was and didn't really know who the manager was to speak to. It didn't spoil our stay significantly though.
20 minute walk to the Cathredral! 5 minute walk to the park. Lovely outside area with comfortable seating [flowers everywhere] and Ben the manager was so helpful. Food was excellent! Good beer on draught.
A pub with 5 rooms upstairs, not a hotel. Nice and cosy room at a very low price. Very quiet (however if the weather is good I guess people sit outside the pub in the terrace just by the room windows, and it becomes noisy). Coffee an tea maker in the room - very useful.
No electricity euro-adapter. Very cold bathroom. 10 min on foot from the city center (was absolutely ok for me, though). Thin walls, can hear everything in the corridor. The bed is a bit too soft.
Location, short pleasant walk into centre
No fresh fruit for breakfast or gluten free bread. Lack of parking, one of us was given a parking permit the other had to drive and park outside of the resident permit area.
I booked two rooms for myself, my two sons and daughter in law for two nights. We all enjoyed our stay. The hotel-pub proved to be a beautifully maintained, genuinely old-world establishment; cosy atmosphere; kind staff; good kitchen; withing walking distance from city-center. Beautiful city. should have stayed longer.
Lovely location, quite near the station and easy walking distance to town. Pleasant bar and restaurant with good choice of menu for lunch and dinner. Nice beer garden.
All ok; no negatives.
situated in a residential street, no noise.
Location close to railway station and surprisingly quiet...restaurant excellent in evenings and nice outside eating area
bedroom very warm - had to leave window open so a little traffic noise but not much
Good breakfast Nice Staff Nice Pub Nice rooms
Staff very friendly and helpful, Pleasant location, and very attractive garden. Very quite allowing good sleep. Good full English breakfast,, although not till 8.30 on Saturdays, but staff agreeable to serve it a bit early for me.
Something to be aware of, rather than a complaint is that it is quite a long walk (10-15 minutes) from city centre and station.
Staff were welcoming and helpful. The location was slightly away from the city centre which provided a more relaxed and attractive surrounds.
Bathroom facilities were slightly outdated or in need of some renovation (but quite useable).
Loved the location, parked the car and walked! Pub food was good. Breakfast was fine!
Location for city centre and walks. Parking permit excellent. Outside patio and garden. Good breakfast and dinner menu. Friendly and helpful manager and nice staff. Although we had the small bedroom , adequate, comfortable.
Nothing to complain about so nothing not to like.
Pleasant stay. Lovely English pub.
friendly staff nice walk to the centre of town
The Alfred has a pleasant 'locals' feel to it, friendly and cosy. Food was good and the room comfortable.
The room was excellent - very well laid out, bright and comfortable. Circumstances dictated that I didn't sample food or beers, but they did have a very tempting selection
The Garden The breakfast
The bed was uncomfortable - too soft
First time we have stayed in a Pub, after 11:00 at night the place went silent. We had a good sleep after a hectic day's walking..
We can't think of anything negative.
Friendly welcome, lovely atmosphere in the pub and superb dinner. Room spotlessly clean.
