“ Friendly and welcoming owners. Excellent food good alround accommodation..... ”

Pontesbury
This traditional 16th-century inn is in the pretty village of Ockley, just off route A29, and has free parking and rooms with private bathrooms. The Kings Arms has a quiet location in the Surrey countryside, between Dorking and Horsham. It has lots of original character, with low ceilings and wooden beams. In the winter, there is a real log fire and in the summer, there is the award-winning garden. The rooms with private bathrooms have TVs, telephones, suit presses and tea/coffee. The Kings Arms offers good food, wine and beer at affordable prices. The traditional food is made using fresh seasonal, local produce and includes Sunday roasts, steaks and homemade pies. Reservations for meals are recommended. Hotel Rooms: 6 The most recent booking for this hotel was made on May 24 at 05:55 from United Kingdom.

It was a peaceful location. The rooms were clean and cosy. The bedrooms really need upgrading, the bed was really uncomfortable and lumpy,

Nothing. But recognised that the management knew that much was needed to be done to improve facillities . However I doubt that they will achieve their objectives. In the meantime the Inn should have been closed to try to avoid comments like mine and reopened when fit to do so.

Good food. Good parking This is my 2nd stay at The Kings Arms, each time I have stayed for 2 nights, and on both occasions my room hasn't been serviced. The Kings Arms is under new ownership. They are nice people. The rooms are a little tired and could do with decorating.

A sad, run-down, dirty, old fashioned hotel run by people who couldn't care less. Avoid! Awful place, avoid!

Location for the other venue we were attending further along the road. We did not see any staff on arrival, as expected, and we did not see any staff when we returned to the premises after midnight, with the back door being left unlocked. Likewise we did not see any staff at breakfast time which was very much a 'here's the food help yourselves' situation We did eventually find one member of staff by chance as we were leaving and were able to pay our bill. The room we had had seen better days with a damaged panel on the door and the bathroom door very difficult to close as it kept jamming. The carpet had been hoovered, I think, but unfortunately this did not appear to have been the case behind the bedroom door because, when it was closed the dust became apparant behind it. Overall the location was convenient for the event we were attending at another premises further along the road but for the price we paid for the room we were expecting something a bit better. We understand that the premises has recently changed hand so a refurbisment may be in hand. We hope so as the public areas of the premises were of a high standard.

It was advertised as a period inn which it would have been if the public house side of it was open. We were greeted when we arrived and then we did not see any other staff for our two days stay. We even had to get our own breakfast in the mornings and still did not see any staff about. It was really weird not seeing any staff moving around at any time at all. It was very impersonal. I know people like their privacy but that was rediculous.

I liked the old historic house. The staff was not present when we arrived, our names and room numbers were on the info-board and the keys were in the doors. Nice for experienced travellers with no problems..The staff, wonderful and friendly couple, was present later. A good place to stay, when you travel by car, close to the airport with good roads and access.. Continental breakfast can be a good change after 10 mornings of English breakfast, but not as tasty.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable but a little on the small side for a double room. There was no-one on hand to welcome us on arrival - we had to let ourselves in and find our own room!

The bathroom was spacious and modern. The hotel is fascinating due to its history and quaintness There was no staff in eveidence at all The bedding looked a bit grubby The hot water in the shower did not work The breakfast was a joke- no milk hot water and again no staff anywhere . On complaining I received a lazy shrug from the manager. Awful and unprofessional service

Good coffee. Leaving it. No signs to say the hotel entrance was at the back of the building. So banging on the front door in the pouring rain didn't get us off to a good start. When we did find our way in, the manageress just told us to find the room up stairs, couldn't be bothered to show us. Room was big, but grubby, dingy, & barely lit. Surfaces so dusty you could write your name on them. The bathroom was in desperate need of attention. The wood beams in the bath/shower were untreated, and crumbling away. The shower was a sprinkle, and bulbs needed replacing. At breakfast, we were only asked if we wanted tea, or coffee (good coffee). There were cereals, juice, croissant, jams, and bread to toast. The room was sold as "bed, & breakfast", so we were expecting to be offered something cooked, but when we asked, we were told that it was in fact a "continental" breakfast that was included, and anything else was extra. I asked for scrambled eggs, and was then asked for £4.95, which by then, I just thought was unreasonable, and told them. They gave the eggs on the house ! The place needs a total refurbishment, and £70.00 for a grubby twin room, service average at best, the Kings Arms is over priced, when compared to many alternatives.

The place was best described as empty, which was strange as the pub was really nice and the food was really good. they had a young slovacian girl working behind the bar/ serving dinner and breakfast, she did appear to be on all shifts and covered most of the tasks. She was a credit to the hotel as she very polite, organised and very friendly. I had to ask for clean towels on Thursday as my room was not cleaned

The location was ideal for a wedding nearby Inadequate shower in room en suite, more sumptuous furnishing expected considering the room was top four poster. E.g. No armchair provided. Average continental breakfast for comparatively high room rate, additional charge for full English unnecessary

That it serve continental breakfast, with lots of choice in the dining room (not in our room, which we had perhaps misunderstood), as did not require cooked breakfast. Requested decaffinated coffee in advance and it was provided. Room was a little small. Blankets requested in advance but no note to say the hotel could only provide a duvet. No attempt to clean room after first night, although, for a new guest, hotel would have to clean room, change sheets and replenish tea/coffee making facilities.

The location is in beautiful rural Surrey. It is lovely old place and the staff were very friendly. The food is gourmet standard. The only negatives were that the bed in my room had a dodgy headboard, the door was hard to lock and the shower facility was hard to get the temperature right... otherwise everything was spot on.
