Character of building, availability of food throughout day, relaxed atmosphere. All facilities allowed for a comfortable stay.
Room 6's bathroom definitely had a drain smell, rather like cat.
Location is excellent. Food is excellent Staff try to be helpful but seem to have limited resources
Too many of the staff seemed to be at training stage. Poor attention to detail e.g; - only one lightbulb working in a chandelier of 5 or 6 over the stairs making it dark. - breakfast plates not hot enough to keep breakfast hot - bar area not swept between lunchtime and evening -clean towels/bedlinen pilled in corridor making it difficult to get luggage past - tables in the bar marked as reserved for long periods when nobody was using them - should say what time reserved from - not enough bar staff serving
had a great break, Adam and the staff were fab, the food great, could not fault the service and kindness to us and our border collie jake.
Helpful staff, good breakfasts, atmospheric building
Meals a bit expensive
The Location Good well stocked bar & excellent beer
Residents not being able to use the lovely Dining room for evening meals Slightly grubby appearance. No mattress covers on beds, need for redecoration Bathroom extractor fan u/s Desperate shortage of staff on first evening Rather "Naff" mock medieval swords & armour - it was out of keeping
Lovely location. Nearby walks to the fells. Power shower good, no shortage of hot water
Heard every sound from next door, even someone snoring. Water system very noisy when neighbour used bathroom. Nothing in place for gluten free diet which was a requirement on the booking form
good food, location was beautifull, but nothing nearby to walk to for a meal or drink,
had to ask for room to be cleaned, stayed for six nights, had to ask for toilet tissue on two different days, a very young room maid didnt know any english, room wasnt cleaned every day, had to ask if the bathroom could be cleaned, as we had been there 4 days and no sign of any cleaning, the cold water tap could not be used on the sink, reported it but nothing was done. staff were helpfull,
Ideal place if you are looking for some great walks
Lovely old building with good facilities and great location. The staff were polite hard working and very helpful.
The first day's breakfast was dreadful. We had a 20min. Wait for an egg being cooked as the bacon and sausage must have been kept slowly cooking for at least an hour. The second day's breakfast was an improvement. The staff were polite hard working and very helpful.
great place to stay lovely room pleasant staff good choice for breakfast
Location great views good.
The cooked breakfast was pretty dire the menu for dinner and breakfast needed a huge revamp - it would not be difficult to make significant improvements.
Location excellent, pleasant attentive staff, food pretty good.
Our room had a nasty smell which hit you as you walked in, the cleanliness of the hotel could have been better especially in the rooms. A small fridge would be great in the room as well.
Great location, good drinks, helpfull staff, good parking, nice shop on site, good atmosphere in the bar.
The bed was two pushed in to one and poor matress, chair was broken, door strip was loose, toilet wouldn't flush properly , bathroom was tiny, not enough storage for clothes, spiders in the room. Broken handle on one bedside cabinet.
Location close to many lake district attractions. Very good pub food. Plenty of parking. Atmosphere. Nice view of the fells from our room. Out in the countryside.
A little noisy outside our room - compressor or machine starting and stopping.
helpful friendly staff and good food on the evening.
cooked breakfast was almost cold. poor plumbing, unable to turn off cold taps.
The location is second to none, right next to Thirlmere and easy distance from the Lakeland hotspots. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Lovely mattress, I think a foam type which moulds to fit you, so always comfortable. Great view from room.
The bathroom was a tad small, you couldn't sit straight on the toilet without your knees hitting the shower cubicle. Also, bathroom smelt damp and some mould in places, especially shower. Base of bed squeaked every time I turned over. Narrow corridor to rooms with a worn carpet rather unwelcoming compared with the entrance hallway into flagged floor with wood panelling which was rather nice.
The staff were very attentive especially at breakfast time, overall a lovely location & lovely staff.
The shower / bathroom was quite small, I'm over 6 ft so I have this problem at most places I stay but whoever decided to put the hand basin less than a foot from the toilet was having an off day.
Inflexible menus. Unfriendly attitude of some of the foreign staff
the overall establishment was good food was good beer was excellent
bed could have been more comfortable the niosey fan that woke us up every morning was a main factor to the scoring of this review
Rude staff. Very poor quality bedroom. Tiny bathroom, toilet situated almost under the sink. Lots of noise from the road. There are far better hotel/eating options in this area. Spend your hard earned holiday money in one of these other places rather than here.
4 poster bed, deep bath with lots of hot water especially after we climbed Helvellyn, the views, friendly staff, good breakfast, good beer.
Clean rooms Friendly staff Location,Location, Reasonable prices for food and drink Excellent Breakfast
Staff were always friendly, helpful and nothing seemed to be a problem. Food was very good. Great location with fantastic views. Close to Keswick.
You could feel every spring in the bed. We resorted to sleeping on our duvet which did the trick and would just need thick mattress boosters. This was the only disappointing feature but a crucial one.
location was nice, beer was good breakfasts ok
uneven corridors hard beds and no room for your knees when you use the toilet
