The room was cosy with a great bathroom and the location was great with lovely views.
The room could have been a little bigger but gives everything you need.
The Views; the food; the bathroom (we stayed in rm 4); the comfortable bed; the staff; the warm ambience. The breakfasts were great.
The traffic outside! Noisy in the mornings so sleep somewhat disturbed. For arachnaphobes it would've been a nightmare! There were often long waits for food in the evening, but the good was delicious once it arrived. A light on the desk in rm 4 would've been great, and for those who don't drink tea or coffee, no hot choc or herbal tea was offered, despite requesting this during booking. Dusting around the inner window frames would have eliminated the spider webs and the spiders could've been shaken off through the window.
Difficult to communicate with staff down to language problems, relating to breakfast staff Bigger concern about lack of supervision of 'junior staff' in the event of any emergency Poor fire safety (letter to M.D. sent)
The location was beautiful.
The bathroom wasn't clean, the light was broken, there was no extraction which resulted in a lot of black mould and it smelt like a public toilet. The windows in the room didn't open which made it feel like a green house during the day. The food was of very poor quality and seriously over priced, my partner sent his T-bone steak back as it was very over cooked, only to get another one in a similar state again but it was that late by then, we really didn't want to have to wait for another one again. Breakfast also left a lot to be desired, we're both chefs so we appreciate good food and know when it's not right, we could taste cheap bought in pre prepared garlic on the mushrooms which was just revolting with breakfast, poorly cooked bacon and inattentive staff who left us without hot drinks for the majority of our second breakfast there.
Room 15 was very poor mould on the windows, shower fittings and wall paper either missing or peeling from the ceiling due to dampness Bedroom furniture and fitting threadbare
Character of building, availability of food throughout day, relaxed atmosphere. All facilities allowed for a comfortable stay.
Room 6's bathroom definitely had a drain smell, rather like cat.
Location is excellent. Food is excellent Staff try to be helpful but seem to have limited resources
Too many of the staff seemed to be at training stage. Poor attention to detail e.g; - only one lightbulb working in a chandelier of 5 or 6 over the stairs making it dark. - breakfast plates not hot enough to keep breakfast hot - bar area not swept between lunchtime and evening -clean towels/bedlinen pilled in corridor making it difficult to get luggage past - tables in the bar marked as reserved for long periods when nobody was using them - should say what time reserved from - not enough bar staff serving
had a great break, Adam and the staff were fab, the food great, could not fault the service and kindness to us and our border collie jake.
Helpful staff, good breakfasts, atmospheric building
Meals a bit expensive
Liked the location
Full restaurant closed pub food below standard customer service very poor
The Location Good well stocked bar & excellent beer
Residents not being able to use the lovely Dining room for evening meals Slightly grubby appearance. No mattress covers on beds, need for redecoration Bathroom extractor fan u/s Desperate shortage of staff on first evening Rather "Naff" mock medieval swords & armour - it was out of keeping
One staff member arrogant Cold and no heating until asked 3 times Very uncomfortable bed
Lovely location. Nearby walks to the fells. Power shower good, no shortage of hot water
Heard every sound from next door, even someone snoring. Water system very noisy when neighbour used bathroom. Nothing in place for gluten free diet which was a requirement on the booking form
good food, location was beautifull, but nothing nearby to walk to for a meal or drink,
had to ask for room to be cleaned, stayed for six nights, had to ask for toilet tissue on two different days, a very young room maid didnt know any english, room wasnt cleaned every day, had to ask if the bathroom could be cleaned, as we had been there 4 days and no sign of any cleaning, the cold water tap could not be used on the sink, reported it but nothing was done. staff were helpfull,
Ideal place if you are looking for some great walks
Lovely old building with good facilities and great location. The staff were polite hard working and very helpful.
The first day's breakfast was dreadful. We had a 20min. Wait for an egg being cooked as the bacon and sausage must have been kept slowly cooking for at least an hour. The second day's breakfast was an improvement. The staff were polite hard working and very helpful.
great place to stay lovely room pleasant staff good choice for breakfast
Location great views good.
The cooked breakfast was pretty dire the menu for dinner and breakfast needed a huge revamp - it would not be difficult to make significant improvements.
The staff were very pleasant. The quality and variety of breakfast very good. The room was very small and dingy and the bathroom was tiny.
We last visited the King's Head about 20 years ago and the thing we remember above all was the quality of the food. However, apart from breakfast, we were very disappointed in the quality and presentation of the food on this occasion.
We come from Australia and we have nothing like this. What a delight in a beautiful setting with easy access to the Lake District.
large car park attractive old pub efficient staff clean rooms decent food
iiritating dripping tap in my room staff informed the owner but he prefers his own plumber who would,nt attend. So just had to put up with dripping tap because the owner could,nt be bothered to get someone else.
It was clean and tidy for the most part and being an older property had some charm but was not made the most of. Shower water was hot and plentiful. Everywhere was clean and, for the most part, tidy (except on change out). Sufficient car parking. Views are good, despite being right on a main road. Staff were pleasant but obviously suffered (at the time we arrived) from foreign tour party fatigue.
The rooms are basic and the bed quite small, standard double, (but then this is an older, smaller property). Furniture quite utalitarian. The bathroom had a shower pod (but water supply and heat was very good), it did the job. At £50 per person per night (this is really old fashioned it should be priced per room) it was over the top. Breakfast was not the best. Poached eggs looked awful, sort of "dissmembered" and placed on the toast with a solid spoon meant that the toast got soaked with water. Soggy toast is unpleasent. Wrong orders given to tables.
Location excellent, pleasant attentive staff, food pretty good.
Our room had a nasty smell which hit you as you walked in, the cleanliness of the hotel could have been better especially in the rooms. A small fridge would be great in the room as well.
Great location, good drinks, helpfull staff, good parking, nice shop on site, good atmosphere in the bar.
The bed was two pushed in to one and poor matress, chair was broken, door strip was loose, toilet wouldn't flush properly , bathroom was tiny, not enough storage for clothes, spiders in the room. Broken handle on one bedside cabinet.
