Our stay was short but sweet. An amazing place to stay for a cozy and friendly feel. Staff was exceptional and the room was great and clean! Loved this cozy inn and will definitely stay again!!!
The walls were a bit thin and we could here our neighbors conversations...which meant they could here ours.
It's a very british particular hotel in a pub which surprised me. Not impressive at first but actually really nice and quiet and the beds were so comfy!!
Position...you need to get a taxi to get here from Watford Juction but it costs around 10\15£.
The price of drinks
Owner/Manager attitude. One young lady very helpful even though under pressure. Other staff appeared totally intolerant. The whole place requires a total clean from top to bottom. My bedroom was in an annexe above another hostelry some 150 yds from the bar/restaurant.. It was dirty, no place to hang clothes and the shower area looked contagious!!!!!In addition there was a live band playing directly under the room. This is an ideal hotel for an alcoholic deaf person. The original price was £50 but was reduced to £40 after complaining. Avoid at all costs.
- location - good parking facilities - cosy, historic atmosphere in the pub - excellent vegetarian food in the restaurant - very pleasant, friendly owner/staff
- beds slightly uncomfortable
Good location for Harry Potter studio tour. Old historic building, nice cozy pub downstairs with log fire. Pub food was pretty good.
No option of breakfast, right next to railway bridge with trains passing every 10 minutes, although I never heard them at night.
Character, ambience, good homecooked food, large portions, cheap drinks, history of building. Comfort of bar with open fires and comfy sofas. Decor for xmas was great, lots of candles made it more cosy, being able to have our dinner in the bar area by the fire.
Mould in and around the shower area. Radiator in the room didn't work, so room was cold, although one in bathroom worked. Seems like room was licked clean, lots of dust in corners, window ledges. Missing bathroom curtain, rattan basket in bar toilet needed replacing. Radiator in bar toilet had paint hanging off and missing at least bottom 3 inches of paint.
Room was clean and tidy.very good to have a television as weekend was meant just for relaxing.bed was very comfortable.
Bit disappointed that there wasn't a bath and also that we were unable to go to the hotel as private function was on.expected to stay in hotel the wording of ad suggests this not a room around the corner.
Lovely Old Building full of character. When I entered and went to the bar I had a friendly greeting and was shown my room which was full of character. Although by a fairly busy road and close to a bridge with the railway main line crossing it, the deep secondary glazing kept the noise rought down and I had a good nights sleep. The bathroom, although fairly basic had a good shower with plenty of hot water
Sadly the central heating didn't see to work and it was a very cold night. The good news was that the room wasn't that cold 'cos it probably got warmed up from the very warm bar/lounge area below.
The owner Clive is lovely and made us feel very welcome. Very homely feel - considering it's above a Pub/restaurant, very peaceful. Lovely big bathroom (duplex room)
The bar area & the bed
Not being forewarned there was a private party so could not use the bar or restaraunt
Loved the history of the place - i especially like the fact it's not a corporate hotel. It is quaint and I really love that in a hotel
Shame they don't do breakfast!
Mostly good. Bed was very comfy.
Toilet seat was only attached on one side so loose and sliding about - not great. The shower didn't work so even though there was a bath it would have been good to have been told as it made time a bit tight in the morning. It shouldn't really be adertised on a b & b sight as it price only covers bed.
Friendliness of the staff was very good and the food served in the bar was very welcome, particularly as there was a large party which occupied the dining room and needed a lot of attention
Room was rather remote from main building which on this ocassion was not a problem, but if weather had been inclement it would have spoilt the visit
food was great and the lady who was very rushed still had time for us
the train line was a bit of a shock
Location was great. Room very comfortable. We ate downstairs in restaurant fantastic food and good value for money.
Getting large suitcases up the stairs is awkward but not impossible.
The room was spacious and comfortable with a tv and tea and coffee and an en-suite bathroom. The hotel was full of character and the staff at check in were friendly and helpful.
We stayed for two nights and the room wasn't cleaned so bin wasn't emptied and tea/coffee, milk not replaced etc. There were cobwebs and dust in the stairs up to the bathroom and couldn't open the windows in the room which meant it was too hot to sleep comfortably. Carpets seemed old and in need of cleaning. It would be nice if the hotel considered offering a breakfast to guests.
Food was superb. Staff could not have been more friendly and were extremely helpful to us
One member of our party had great difficulty with stairs as did the more elderly
It was very easy going and relaxed. We had excellent directions to St. Albans from the staff.
The stair carpet was very worn and I found it difficult carrying a small case.
It took about 7 to 8 mins to get the hot though.thought I was going to have a cold shower not happy.
Good location for Warner bros
Room was full of cobwebs, dirty make up wipes and hair clips on floor from previous guests and wasn't particularly clean
The lodge was absolutely gorgeous, we had a large room with plenty of space an really traditional, along with a gorgeous 4 poster bed. Without a doubt the selling point of the Kings Lodge was Clive, the (co?) owner. He was so helpful with everything from recommendations on where to go to the cheapest way about and giving us lifts in his own car! Absolutely lovely place would recommend to anyone
Staff is really helpful. Room was clean and tidy.
Food and ambiace
Me and my best friend went to harry potter .the owner gave is a lift and was very helpful during our stay
The room was spacious and facilities very adequate.
The room just needed some dusting but in general it was very clean.
