The lay out of the building and the friendly staff.
I felt the room was cold
the inn had lots of character, the food was excellent, good value for money, shame there was no breakfast.
Room was not maintained properly, heating not working ,lamp not working light bulb gone in ceiling +,batteries in remote control, these should be check regular.
Location nice and food in the lodge was well prepared and nice atmosphere in the evening.
Rooms were not in the Kings Lodge but out of the lodge and around the corner. And into a dark alley to the back of Harrys Bar , security light not always coming on so very dark. Rooms were above a sports bar not the Kings Lodge as advertised. Roof had peeling paper and carpets dirty , light bulb not working in room.Toilet cold as no heating in them. Upon checkout Lodge was locked up and no sign as to what to do with keys. Luckily someone was arriving so they let me in to leave the keys. Poor service at end of stay.
Plumbing poor - no hot water to sink. Rooms dirty. 1st visit disturbed by noise from adjacent room in early hours. (Think this could have been owners talking loudly?) 2nd visit in annexe with downstairs bathroom - no heating - cold air from outside- freezing!
The hotel was well located near to our destination and great value for money. Staff were lovely and the food in the restaurant was great.
Only negative was the trainline being so near it was a bit noisy
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. I great stop over location for the Harry Potter tour. 5 mins away. The drinks are cheap and the home cooked food is to die for and very generous portions. Can recommend the beef and ale pie.
It's just a shame they don't do breakfast. Other than that it's perfect
warm welcome Staff very helpful Nice restaurant Close to Harry Potter tour
No breakfast Wifi signal not good stairs a little steep
The bed was lovely and was clean
Old-fashioned pub in a beautiful building with excellent lodgings and lovely staff
Shame that the plumbing needs to use a pump which makes a lot of noise, as does the nearby train
we were emailed a reservation confirmation but called several times with no answer, turned up on the doorstep with nobody answering. On xmas day, thanks a lot. Awful.
The staff were friendly and kind. The room was nice and clean with good facilities such as clean towels, a choice of tea and coffee. It was also nice that there was a hairdryer available. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
The room was a bit cold but there were spare blankets in the room so it was not so cold when sleeping.
The friendliness of the welcome; the historical ambiance; the layout of the accommodation and the comfort.
Nothing - It suited our purposes excellently
Four poster bed
Cobwebs in bedroom
Our stay was short but sweet. An amazing place to stay for a cozy and friendly feel. Staff was exceptional and the room was great and clean! Loved this cozy inn and will definitely stay again!!!
The walls were a bit thin and we could here our neighbors conversations...which meant they could here ours.
Great building, interesting rooms, fascinating bar with ancient wooden beams, plasterwork mouldings and old fireplaces with crests etc. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Comfortable bed and nice thick sweet smelling bath towels.
Quite a lot of the fittings in our bathroom needed a few pounds spent to sort them out - e.g. clamps holding toilet seat were loose and probably past it. Shower bar head mount could not be clamped properly to the bar - a new bar would be cheap and sort the problem. Plastic pipework was discoloured and a good clean would be in order. There was no breakfast on offer.
Quirky hotel with excellent staff. Good value drinks and food available from the bar downstairs. There is a railway line close by but this did not affect how we slept at all and I was originally quite worried about the quality of sleep that I would get on arrival. The owner was very friendly made us feel very welcome without being in your face. Would definitely go back
Room was a bit cold - think the radiator needed bleeding but wasn't an issue as we didn't spend much time in the room and it was only whilst i was changing that it affected me so nothing to complain about. Couple of things were also bit dusty like the drawers next to the wardrobe but think that was literally just down to it being an old building as I dusted it again the next morning so again no complaints just me being a bit picky. Would have been much better if breakfast was an option but this would not stop us going back as there are a few cafes not too far away.
It's a very british particular hotel in a pub which surprised me. Not impressive at first but actually really nice and quiet and the beds were so comfy!!
Position...you need to get a taxi to get here from Watford Juction but it costs around 10\15£.
The price of drinks
Owner/Manager attitude. One young lady very helpful even though under pressure. Other staff appeared totally intolerant. The whole place requires a total clean from top to bottom. My bedroom was in an annexe above another hostelry some 150 yds from the bar/restaurant.. It was dirty, no place to hang clothes and the shower area looked contagious!!!!!In addition there was a live band playing directly under the room. This is an ideal hotel for an alcoholic deaf person. The original price was £50 but was reduced to £40 after complaining. Avoid at all costs.
- location - good parking facilities - cosy, historic atmosphere in the pub - excellent vegetarian food in the restaurant - very pleasant, friendly owner/staff
- beds slightly uncomfortable
Good location for Harry Potter studio tour. Old historic building, nice cozy pub downstairs with log fire. Pub food was pretty good.
No option of breakfast, right next to railway bridge with trains passing every 10 minutes, although I never heard them at night.
Character, ambience, good homecooked food, large portions, cheap drinks, history of building. Comfort of bar with open fires and comfy sofas. Decor for xmas was great, lots of candles made it more cosy, being able to have our dinner in the bar area by the fire.
Mould in and around the shower area. Radiator in the room didn't work, so room was cold, although one in bathroom worked. Seems like room was licked clean, lots of dust in corners, window ledges. Missing bathroom curtain, rattan basket in bar toilet needed replacing. Radiator in bar toilet had paint hanging off and missing at least bottom 3 inches of paint.
Room was clean and tidy.very good to have a television as weekend was meant just for relaxing.bed was very comfortable.
Bit disappointed that there wasn't a bath and also that we were unable to go to the hotel as private function was on.expected to stay in hotel the wording of ad suggests this not a room around the corner.
Lovely Old Building full of character. When I entered and went to the bar I had a friendly greeting and was shown my room which was full of character. Although by a fairly busy road and close to a bridge with the railway main line crossing it, the deep secondary glazing kept the noise rought down and I had a good nights sleep. The bathroom, although fairly basic had a good shower with plenty of hot water
Sadly the central heating didn't see to work and it was a very cold night. The good news was that the room wasn't that cold 'cos it probably got warmed up from the very warm bar/lounge area below.
The owner Clive is lovely and made us feel very welcome. Very homely feel - considering it's above a Pub/restaurant, very peaceful. Lovely big bathroom (duplex room)
The bar area & the bed
Not being forewarned there was a private party so could not use the bar or restaraunt
