Score from 50 reviews
“I invited friends of ours to join my wife & I on a trip to Abergavenny. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the lady of the house who quickly booked us in & took us to our rooms. The door of our room was opened & what a fantastic site.”

Possibly the oldest travelers' inn in Wales, the friendly Kings Arms has its own micro brewery and an excellent restaurant offering tapas and a varied dining menu. Standing since at least 1400, the inn still has many original features. It was visited by Roundheads, Cavaliers and even King Charles II. The elegant rooms have reasonable rates and a feeling of relaxed luxury. The Kings Arms is on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and about 40 minutes from Cardiff. Newport, the site of the 2010 Ryder Cup, is 20 minutes away. The Kings Arms hosts live music and special evenings of jazz, comedy and acoustic music every Friday and Saturday night. There is also an art gallery and a function area. Hotel Rooms: 11

We stayed at the kings arms for two nights on a friday and saturday and I can honestly say I couldnt fault our stay there the owners were welcoming and friendly, the food was good and so was the beer and the room was excellent. The live music was also an unexpected pleasure and it was so nice to stay somewhere where it was a real buzzing atmosphere. We are definately going back again for a longer stay. I would recommend it anytime.

Place was generally interesting and showed it's history. The beer was good. Although there were clean towels provided. The previous occupants dirty towels were left in the bathroom. The bin in the bathroom contain the previous occupants razer and the tea pot still had a used tea-bag in it. Minor things but irritating.

Great staff and the entire place oozes character My room was next to the smokers area and the thin glass did nothing to stop the smoke or noise (that lasted until 11pm) filling my room. This did little for me as I had to be up at 6am and the amount of smoke did little for the chest infection I had at the time!

I invited friends of ours to join my wife & I on a trip to Abergavenny. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the lady of the house who quickly booked us in & took us to our rooms. The door of our room was opened & what a fantastic site. A beautiful room with a twist of modern decor, bearing in mind that this is a 17th century building with the walls, floors & ceilings of this period Quirky!. We had a drink at the bar & then went to bed where we had a great nights' sleep in the comfiest of beds. In the morning we had a lovely breakfast & all our requirements were dealt with efficiently. All in all, a fantastic place, with fantastic staff. Can.t wait for our return visit.

I wanted to eat my dinner in my room and the staff were kind enough to bring my meal up to my room I would have liked a bath in the room but there was only a shower. The toilet also made a loud noise when flushed or when the tap was running which was annoying during the night.

The age of the hotel and the quirkyness of it. Staff were pleasant, friendly and welcoming. Cooked breakfast was poor, dinner menu uninspiring.

The room was decorated beautifully and the room was clean The very loud music coming from downstairs until the early hours and the unprofessional image protrayed by the staff. There was no management presence and it lacked ownership.

This is a great pub. Full stop. It oozes character, which is backed up by the staff. Parking is free and just across the road, and it is well placed for getting in and out of the town and for other things in Abergavenny. The room was small, the bed was small, and the shower was small. Now I did book a single room and being such an old building it is hardly surprising that it was small. I should have booked a double room, which is my fault, but if you do book a single room it is a single. On returning I will book a larger room beacuse it is worth returning.

Interesting old building, good central location, friendly staff As noted elsewhere, Saturday night disco is extremely noisy! We also had a broken shower fitting which had been duct-taped back together and was holding the shower head at a very odd angle - water more horizontal than vertical!

The staff was warm and friendly and had been very worried about us because we were late checking in. However, in spite of being late, they were accommodating and relieved to see us. Not the easiest to find, specially on a late night when it is pouring rain. The pub below is noisy and has live music till midnight. Thought it was part of our "adventure" it could be a problem for some.

Beer was ok - shame about the plastic glasses! Perhaps this was Friday night and it may have been different in the week. Very noisy, difficult to find, no parking. Breakfast late - ie 8am and even then it was not ready - which was annoying as I had an appointment at 9am.

Old and interesting building Room not checked properly - 2 lightbulbs not working and clock needed new battery. One lightbulb not able to be replaced immediately. Breakfast one one day was poor quality with slow service - better on second day. We received a room upgrade apparently but even so, this was expensive for what was provided.
