Just metres from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, 2 minutes’ walk from the city centre.

Ideally located for us with lovely restaurant and very tastefully renovated. Bedrooms were spacious and stylist with comfortable beds and lovely bathroom. Had a great meal with modern cuisine.
Just a bit of a hike to the 2nd floor bedrooms up a steep staircase .
The friendliness of the staff , the décor of the hotel, the light airy and roomy bedroom and bathroom. A very welcoming hotel.
the staff are all friendly, especially to our 6mth old Airedale; most welcoming. The room was a good size, very clean, and well set out to accommodate 2 adults and a dog. We had an evening meal and full breakfast, both were very well cooked, presented and served.
The room was on 2nd floor and the staircase btn 1st and 2nd level is steep.
All staff were very friendly, room was clean with comfortable bed and pillows! Delicious breakfast in the morning, and good time - don't have to get up too early.
The shower was very hot, but we managed for one night.
Staff very friendly and location fantastic.
Steep flight of stairs to the top rooms
No carpet, noisy windows
Staff Breakfast Style of place Bathrooms
Rooms a little noisy (Room 1 with all other residents walking past; Room 8 from outside) No shower in Room 8 - just a (very nice) bath
Great bath and I don't usually enjoy a bath but the one in the deluxe room was pure luxury Our cleaning lady was like the most cleaning happy person I've ever met! She really did make our room so lovely every day. Breakfasts were amazing.. Basically anything you wanted and cooked and served to perfection. Bed was very comfy even though only a double it was so nice the linen sheets. We loved it all and all the staff so friendly especially Emma behind the bar, she's a credit to the place, helpful, friendly she is so lovely and genuine, nothing was too much trouble, thank you Emma.
I could be really picky and say a king size bed. But only because I prefer but I still slept well
My dog was made to feel as welcome as I was. Good food and wine. Comfortable bed and stylish surroundings. excellent value for money and super friendly staff. I cannot think of anything negative to say.
The food (dinner, breakfast, brunch or lunch) a good selection of wines, well kept real ale, comfortable accommodation. Perfect location for us when stopping over before / after taking the ferry to/from France. Also well located just to enjoy the Kent countryside. Its also worth noting that they have a very good policy of maximising the use of local produce, which further helps the local economy.
Service & food is very poor.
The restaurant was excellent with a fab choice of wines
small double, creaky floors, no blinds a toilet seat that wouldn't stay up when I peed
The staff were very welcoming. The food was delicious. The beds were very comfortable. We had an excellent stay.
Wye is an attractive small quiet town. It has a station and there is a frequent service to Canterbury taking 15 minutes which we used . The King's Head provided excellent food and service, including waitress service for breakfast which was freshly cooked.
Room was bright, contemporary and bathroom was huge. Also, a very welcome breakfast hamper was prepared as we had to leave early. Wye is a lovely village, quiet and peaceful. It suited our needs very well.
Food didn't always match the description on the menu - no bacon in Caesar salad and no fresh fruit or yoghurt on granola. Apologies were provided and front of house staff were very friendly. Aftershave was overpowering though - I could smell it through the whole restaurant ... Need a new stair carpet.
location and food
breakfast not served until 8.00am which is too late for business travellers. I had to leave at 7.30am and no-one to take payment or serve breakfast. Food was nice but expensive and the portions minimal. Room basic in design
Staff were welcoming and friendly even to the dog! When we arrived the room wasn't ready as we were early but they did offer to look after our luggage and move it to the room for us whilst we went out.
We thought the menu was a little bit limited especially as the Sunday night when they had been busy at lunchtime two choices were no longer available. We also found the pillows to be uncomfortable as they were too thick so ended up sleeping without them.
The room was clean and bright, in fact brilliant white. Monastic chic, with just a bed, small table and two (white) upturned orange crates. Comfortable though. Nice and quite location.
The shower looked imposing, but the water output was pitiful. The hotel is refurbished in a modern bistro style, definitely not an old English pub.
Staff are so helpful and friendly - nothing is too much trouble
Timer on lighting on stairways meant slower walkers could be plunged into darkness at night. Would suggest a small side table with lamp is placed in main lobby on first floor, plus plug-in night lights in corridor on second floor.
very good food, the room was a bit quirky but clean and well equipped. located in a lovely village and ideal for exploring the local countryside.
Friendly welcoming service
Not great parking facilities
The style of the room, the kindness of the owner
The brightness in the room from 5am onwards due to no shutters or curtains, overall very good
good food and drink and lovely staff.
Enjoyed our one night stay food good. Staff friendly, polite and helpful. Accommodation good. Would stay again. Good value for money.
Staff simply FANTASTIC!!!! Food SUPERB!!
