The Kings Head Hotel8 High Street, HR9 5HL Ross on Wye (Show map) Very good, Score from 91 reviews“The quirky charms, beams, wood panelled bar, sloping walls & stairs. Extremely clean and staff excellent. Food was exceptional, lovely touch to have home made bread!”

Frome
Situated in the most picturesque street in the market town of Ross-on-Wye, this 14th century inn maintains many of its original features, including oak beams and a large stone fireplace. All rooms feature a private bathroom and tea and coffee facilities. Free mineral water is also provided, and rooms have a TV and ironing facilities. There is free parking available on site. The restaurant is open to non residents and is extremely popular in the local area. It features a 62 ft well as its centerpiece, and uses fresh market produce. The Kings Bar has a good range of single malts, wines and 2 local real ales. A great location for exploring The Wye Valley, Black Mountains, Tintern Abbey and Symonds Yat, the hotel is within a 40 minute drive of Cardiff and Cheltenham. Goodrich Castle, The Forest of Dean and The Welsh Marches are also easily accessible for day trips. Hotel Rooms: 15

Wasn't told that we would have to book a table to use the resturant and when we went into the resturant was directed to another hotel. Room (no.18) was very small and the floor boards creaked incessantly. The stair case to the second floor was difficult to negotiate and not recommended for anyone with mobility problems. Would not stay at this hotel again.

Best thing for us, (my daughter (25) and me),was the food!!! We dined in the hotel, and of course had breakfast the next morning, and both were absolutely delicious! Very nice Pinot Grigio too! The hotel concentrates on sourcing food locally, and most of it is accounted for on the excellent menu. Only slight gripe was that our room was a little cold. Someone came to tinker with the radiator, but it didn't make much difference. However, it was not bad enough to be very uncomfortable, and the bathroom was nice and warm.

The breakfast was lovely. The hotel charged a lot of money for a run down room with fading carpets and 80s bathroom suite. The room was also swelteringly hot all the time no matter how much you had the window open.

Clean quiet comfortable room, allowed to take dog, good breakfast included Overpriced, too hot, shower too small, upgraded to superior room £105 as it was questionable about room for the dog in standard room.

Pleasant hotel with friendly staff. Characterful buillding in good location. Very small shower even though our room was described as 'deluxe' and we paid quite a lot for it!

The Hotel is centrally situated in Ross on Wye and very convenient. The meal we had in the restaurant was very good. The hotel was parking facilities which was an added bonus. We found the stairs up to our second floor room very steep and not easy to negotiate with a large case, this could be difficult for less able bodied guests. The bathroom in our room was small and needed some modernisation.

Stayed here several times before on various overnight stops. Friendly staff and good location. Hotel has an abundance of character - great sloping staircase and floors. Bar facilities and breakfast consistently good. However, if your room is located at the front of the hotel - the road can be noisy - but what would you expect in the centre of town?

Restaurant is the only redeeming feature of this hotel. The hotel rooms are in need of total refurbishment and bedrooms are in need of sound-proofing.

The man on the desk when we arrived did not smile, Miserable in fact and someone else said the same thing. The room was very dirty the dado rails round the room where a quarter of an inch thick in dust and I do not exaggerate. The manager's answer was, 'well you do get dust in that room'. I said they cannot have washed down in months if not well over a year. The bathroom floor was filthy and the 'white' shower curtain had turned black and orange from bacteria that had been allowed to grow, it turned our inside. Traffic noise was horrendous it kept us awake all night. I said this noise business did not get a mention on the internet when I booked it. The manager did move us to another room at the back of the hotel which was much nicer and quieter. But the manager still never smiled. For £80 a night we expected much better. For £20 extra you can have a 4* hotel in London and a clean one at that.

Check in was speedy and helpful, room (16) spacious. Food in restaurant over priced for what was fairly average food. Room was very noisy felt that the people next door were in the same room as you could hear every sound.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was excellent and reasonably priced. There was plenty of free parking behind the hotel. The hotel is central, making it easy to explore the town and is also close to the Forest of Dean.

The room was comfortable, and the price was fair. The beer on tap in the bar was one of my favourites as well, Sharps Doombar and is was kept just right. The meal in the evening was good and the breakfast was as good.

The hotel's a 14th century coaching inn, with real charm and a lovely ambience. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Food excellent and wide selection. Need to pre-book restaurant for dinner as very popular and busy on weekends. For a late availability booking, and never having used this site we were pleasantly surprised.

Room was spotless on arrival. Fantastic location, right in the centre of town. Friendly staff. The restaurant was really nice and the food was very good. It wasn't a problem for us but the stairs were very steep and this may cause a problem for elder people.

Old coaching inn, fascinating building accommodating modern standards. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good food - also popular with the locals. Small detail - appreciated the teapot provided in the room, which was much easier than teabags and cups!
