    Beautiful location, excellent attentive staff, good effortsd

    Need a make-over. Not "shabby chic" just shabby --- worn carpets, bed with springs poking into my back, bathroom curtain with mold and tiles need new grout. Would expect better.

    As a one day visitor, the location was perfect, and we had a quiet night's sleep, with no noise from the square. Stall were all very pleasant.

    the furnishings were rather dated. The evening meal menu was not at all exciting, and with so much to choose from, we ate out. Likewise, we thought the breakfast was expensive, so we ate out.

    The hotel has a nice character, the staff were helpful and friendly, the room was clean, there was parking provided at the back. The central location was very convenient.

    Our stay was ruined by a few drunks shouting and swearing in the square outside, not only at 11pm as you might expect, but at 2 and 3am as well. In future we will probably stay somewhere quieter outside town instead. A real shame.

    Room upgrade due to rewards member a+ Georgia, was excellent, very helpful and accomodating a++ Location is easy to find and parking was available.

    Rear car park entrance looked very shabby Grubby carpets throughout. Difficult to find room due to nonsensical room numbering. Elderly mother was almost overwhelmed by the stairs. Bath and shower for her were too tall for her to reach. She is not disabled, so we didn't book a disabled access room, but the bath was on a raised platform which she could not step over without help and she couldn't have reached the shower head even of she had. Shower in my room was poor, being a mixer tap with little water pressure. Breakfast was not the best, bacon was served stiff and tea was not served for 20 minutes despite asking for it three times.

    Staff courteous and seemed hardworking. Excellent position on historic market place. Newly done bathroom rather nice. Generally okay for price.

    Lots of stairs...no lift. Room very hot. Fan offered in hotel guide in bedroom but only saw that after a sleepless night. Hotel seemed a bit careworn.

    Great location.

    Comedy of errors from arrival to departure. Untrained and uncoordinated staff result in being told there is a 15 minute wait time to take drink orders, if you can get a staff member to acknowledge you are there. The advertised food service ( from 11:30) is changed to 12:00 or even later depending on how they feel on the day. I have worked in the hotel industry and this was by no means "a busy day" so goodness knows how they would cope. Low water pressure resulted in the new glass washer being inoperable and no-one had the initiative to take them to the kitchens to be washed but just stacked EVERYWHERE in the bar all day, crockery from the evening dinner service just stacked and left on a sideboard in the public area, still there at 6am the next morning. Who wants to see congealed dirty dishes when they get up in the morning. The water pressure also affects the showers ( can change to freezing or scalding while you are showering) so DO NOT leave children or anyone subject to heart attack unsupervised. We were using the bathroom waste bin filled with water to "flush" the loo as it was the only effective method. The "superior" room (3) is charming if you dont look too hard, net curtains unhemmed and fraying at the sides and bathroom grouting any 4 year old would be proud. On the second floor, which is quite stuffy in the warm weather and leaving the windows open gives no relief but you can follow the antics of the party crowds till 3am. I could go on and on but as I have talked to Georgia (GM) and she assures me that that they are working hard to recruit competent staff and implement good working procedures only time will tell.

    Location, comfortable rooms... But avoid rooms facing onto square.

    Traffic and noise at front of hotel, Taxi rank till 2.am Avoid rooms facing onto square if you want any sleep, deliveries from 5 am onwards.

    The location to Richmond

    I reported that the shower head and pipe had been removed. It was dismissed casually as `being under repair`. All it needed was a new shower head and flexible pipe, which would have taken about 5 minutes to sort out. I would have fitted it myself if I had one. This meant I had to spend two nights without a shower and had to manage with a bath (difficult to wash hair). Also the hotel takes pride in advertising real ale. There were three real ale pumps in the bar, none of which were working for the two nights I was there. I was so much wanting to like this place but ended up disappointed.

    The setting of the hotel was superb, the room was spacious and characterful

    Superb setting overlooking the market square and very convenient to get into the Dales each day. Breakfast very good in a lovely room.

    The shower in the bathroom had a faulty hose which I reported on the second day - still not fixed on the third day - received apology and a nice bottle of wine but that did not get it fixed. I sorted out the loose toilet seat myself... The room was NOT standard - it was not the average for the hotel or up to the term "standard" used by booking .com elsewhere - it was afflicted by a large beam at head height (painted black to help see it in the night!!) and the bathroom was tiny with nowhere to place washbags - do you have a term "substandard" for fair description? Nevertheless we had a great holiday and considered the price fair - but if you ask an opinion it has to be balanced with the truth.
