Extensive menu, and well prepared food in restaurant.
Very cramped toilet, but with first class facilities.
Ideal location although in town centre very quiet. Excellent breakfast. Huge room very comfortable overlooking church and square
A bit chilly
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food and service were excellent. We had a very early start on our second day and as a result missed breakfast so the staff made us a packed lunch at no extra charge. Stayed two nights in this hotel and would use it again.
Excellent stopping point in Southern Scotland; Interesting town. Good local experience; Very good restaurant; Accommodating staff.
The location was perfect for walking round the local tourist sites. The room was very large with comfortable king size bed, sofa and newly refurbished en-suite. The breakfast, although very simple, was huge and freshly cooked to order. There was free car parking within a couple of metres. Excellent value for money.
One of the other guests set off the fire alarm at 2am and there was no-one available to switch it off. Indeed the owners and no staff lived on the premises. The guests had to figure out how to cancel the alarm. Perhaps the owners should leave clear instructions to guests for such circumstancs.
Location, lovely room, very comfortable bed, met some VERY interesting people in the bar, staff very helpful.
Electric sockets were too low, at floor level. we are an aging couple and found it difficult.
Central location . Comfortable room.
Very small bar area
No wardrobes in room. Shower only worked when it wasted. No mirror for drying hair and getting ready
Nice room and en suite. Nice staff and friendly locals who chatted when we had a drink in the bar.
No hairdryer in room
Excellent food and atmosphere.
Could have done with some finishing touches to the room.
The location is perfect in the centre of town. The staff were very attentive. The food was wonderful. There is plentiful free parking.
The only downside was a street light on all night almost directly in front of our window. I would recommend room 1 therefore to be provided with blackout curtains.
Convenient location in the town. Comfortable bed
Not much of a welcome. Wet towels and erratic warm water. No compensation for the above. Very much part of a pub, up the side stairs. Rather limited furniture in room - no where to put things in bathroom or hand clothes up.
The people were are friendly and helpful to foreign travelers. It was a wonderful experience.
Location was good and the hotel was very popular with good food and live music. The staff are very friendly and the refurbished bedroom and bathroom is very clean
The bedroom (room 1) was right above the very busy bar. The noise from there and from the stairs leading from the bar to the room where bar users like to sit when the bar is full was very noise. Also the smell of cooked food was present in the room at all times
size of rooms, cleanliness, staff, breakfast facilities,
being a hotel, it was a bit noisy but settled down after 10.00pm - no secure car parking which is a bit of a security risk when having to park away from the hotel
The location, weather, castle, people
Lots to see and do in town
Nothing to dislike.
the cook was a treasure and she provides not only original creations but a personal touch.
slightly worn out room and bathroom. room faced street and windows were not renovated to double layer so a bit noisy from the early morning.
bright, large comfortable bedroom with a king and a double bed. very large bathroom, no bath.
the evening meal was not brilliant but breakfast made up for it.
Lovely hotel with fantastic rooms right in the heart of this lovely little town. The restaurant is popular with guests and locals alike and is very good.
Nothing to dislike.
Great hotel in a central location and very reasonably priced. Very friendly and helpful staff. Ample car parking free on street or nearby car park, also free. Plentiful supply of in room tea coffee and milk, breakfast was excellent.
Spacious room, friendly staff
Late night noise.
Comfortable rooms, central location in nice town, good food. Busy town pub but noise wasn't an issue even on a Saturday night
Good value evening meal. A warm welcome. Pleasant room. Modern facilities with old charm. Excellent location.
With windows open on a very hot night there was a lot of road noise.
WELCOMING AND FRIENDLY STAFF.Great food making the best of local produce.I enjoyed one of the best cooked breakfasts I have had here. wonderful central location in a beautiful town.Plenty of safe and free parking in the street. The excellent Masonic Arms pub is a 5 minute walk.
