It was very cold in the room, and I just have an extra light blanket, turned on the heating but it took ages to make it warm.

The elegant period property and the warm welcome.

In or room the double glazed window wasn't fixed correctly so the wind coming through the bathroom and the roomwindow made the room a bit roughty, feeling cold. A good vacuumcleaning would have made the room spotless.
The Knoll Guest House is just about a 10-minute walk from the train station, though up to the hill. The building has a lovely Victorian characteristic feature. Berry the Manager and his assistant do their best for the guests's comfort from the warm welcoming till serving local products for breakfast.(which is £5 and good value for this price) Our room faced the main road and in the distance you could see the lovely view of the valley. The room was nicely arranged, very comfy bed! Hostpitality tray is refilled, the room cleaned everyday with new towels as well. The old cathedral is just a short walk, opposite the guest house there's the bus stop, with several buses to ride down to town centre and back. Just for £3.60/p/day you can buy a ticket using the local buses. Wish we could stay longer! Thank you Berry.

Breakfast wasn't the best. My kettle broke but Barry swapped it for a brand new one no problems!
Barry the owner is friendly and helpful with any requests. Best Guesthouse around I've found. Park nearby.

The owner, Barry, made sure I had everything I needed, and accommodated every request (including late arrival time, booking a taxi for departure, etc.). Breakfasts in the morning were hot and made to order, the food was simple and delicious. My room was turned over nice and tidy each day. My second stay in 2 years!

Owner was very courteous and made you feel welcomed , room was above adequate ,breakfast was excellent

Upstairs there is less victorian splendor and wood chip everywhere, there are original fireplaces however. The room was cold and suffers from lack of investment, much more shabby that chic. The windows not only let in the cold but also the noise from the street.
There was a lounge with TV, downstairs of house beautiful, good breakfast. Good linens and comfortable bed.

our ground floor room faced a very noisy room and curtains did not prove adequate against the street lights. sadly, a poor sleep but other rooms might have been wonderful!
our kind host, close to station, lovely quirky townhouse. very relaxed and friendly.

That we had to leave so soon.
The most welcoming atmosphere of our entire two week trip to Great Britain.

Only roadside parking, but then these houses were not built with cars in mind, having said that there is an abundance of free spaces available.
A traditional guesthouse in a nice location, at the top of Stow Hill, a short walk to the wonderful Victoria park, with wide ranging views over the river and Transporter bridge, and Newport town centre and the rail station only a few minutes walk. The host, Barry was welcoming and helpful, knowledgable on the area should one need it. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the area is quiet so sleep is easier than some places we have stayed. Breakfast is ordered the day before so you have what you want, nothing more or less, and is served freshly cooked at the time you specify within the breakfast period, and the food is delicious , what more could anyone want!
