Clean rooms, comfortable bed, very good food, and friendly staff. Great value for money
There were no negatives for this establishment.
The staff was very accommodating. Due to low tide we were late because the ferry was delayed landing. I called Peter, the owner/manager, and he held our reservations and made sure that we were able to have dinner when we arrived. The rooms were beyond my expectations and the grounds were immaculate.
A lovely hotel in a good location
friendly staff, relaxing ambience and good food
The toilet cubicals downstairs have faulty snibs. The shower soap holder is not any good .The TV picture isn't good.
The roasting fire and ambience.
We like the comfortable feeling through out the entire hotel, including the gardens. The food quality for breakfast and dinner are better than expected. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. The sitting area in front of the fire place even has a toy chest! Our 5 and 20 months old enjoyed playing the toys and in the gardens a lot.
The menu should be trimmed and focused on a few dishes; the technical skills of the chef are apparent but small things like dressing salad leaves, a bit more flavour in the noodles, cooking goats cheese just a bit longer - small additions but would make a big difference. Scallop portion was tiny; best not to have it on the menu.
We were concerned about a review about extractor fan from kitchen in room 8; although it went on at certain times you had to concentrate to hear it.we didn't find it a problem at all. Staff extremely friendly, grounds amazing. It's a great cycling destination from the ferry.
We stayed for a 3 day weekend break, and it was just wonderful. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly, and the food was first class. Sitting in the sun room overlooking the garden and river, with a glass of something and a good book, is highly recommended.
Only thing that I could critique was the WiFi, which although it was free, the nature of the it being an older building meant the signal did not travel far. Not a deal breaker by any means though.
We had a lovely room overlooking the river with a comfy big bed, spotless room and clean and tidy ensuite bathroom. Lots of storage space in the rooms too which was good, even though we only had 3 nights. The breakfast each day on offer was superb with lots of choice and enough variety to keep everyone happy, but maintaining traditional Scottish themes. The bar/restaurant area was busy ever night we went and the food they turn out was outstanding.
Friendly staff, and good restaurant food.
When you come down the hill and see the hotel in its leafy nook, you instantly relax. Staff wonderfully welcome. Food excellent. And they even put on the most fabulous weather ...
We were well warned by the hotel before we booked but be careful if you book the room(s) above the kitchen as the extractor fan will wake you up at about 7.30. The TV and the TV reception was very poor. (I am sure it is due to the location but it is worth noting if you are hoping to watch a big game / favourite program during your stay.)
The staff. The hotel itself - very charming, lovely location. Good food.
Quaint and full of character but overpriced.
Would of been picture perfect with a sea view
Staff gave us places of interest to go and see, very friendly, made to feel very comfortable
Staff very friendly & welcoming!
It was pretty wet while we were there and although there was an old TV in the room the picture was quite snowy. Perhaps upgrading the TV and look into improving the signal.
Wifi very mixed but that is not their fault at all it will get better as better broadband is rolled out everywhere only mattered to me as I was working
The squirrels were in the gardens every morning. The staff were great, public rooms were fantastic and food was excellent
Horrible bar, out of keeping with the building No real ales on draft Staff could have engaged better Quality didn't quite match the price Wi-fi only available in lounge, not in rooms as advertised
Excellent food Superb location Nice building Tranquil setting Professional staff Rooms clean and well-presented
This hotel looks like the perfect place in a perfect location. Where to start : - the staff is very welcoming, - our room was very quiet, very nicely furnished and nothing looked out of place, - the breakfast was delicious, - the view of the garden was lovely (we even saw a red squirel), - the diner we had there was very good and inexpensive. We just wished we could have stayed a bit longer.
Wi-Fi a bit hit and miss
Great Food Cosy log fires Nice Lounges Comfy beds Good Parking
Beautiful old historic Inn in a very beautiful and quiet location. Staff were very friendly. Dinner was the best of our two week trip, including the beer and the deserts. Don't go here if you need Wi-Fi - it must be at the end of the cable.
Restaurant didn't seem to be functioning so ate in bar. Midgies because of nearby river but surrounding gardens and seating were excellent until 5pm when midgies descended . Still enjoyed the gardens though up until then
Old fashioned service catered to individual needs. Quiet understated luxury. Personal attention and genuine friendliness and interest in your quality of stay. Small touches like lighting the fire as soon as they saw someone was in the lounge. Obvious pride in their establishment
The fact that you really need to depend on a car. Given the size of the island it is more practical to have one if you come here.
Staff, service, food and accommodation were all very good and the location was good for us as we were there to do a bit of walking. We went on 10th - 13th October. The weather was good so ideal for our walks. The bar was busy at night with people taking advantage of the good food that is on offer. A very nice old hotel with log fires and a real home from home atmosphere.
Great location. very welcoming. Coal fires in bar and residents lounge. Food excellent
Can"t think of anything
