Excellent breakfast with full range of cold and hot choice. You can order variety of sandwiches and drinks any time of the day, all of a fresh quality.
High cost at £45 price per head of evening for a four course meal. Lack of variety as it was the same menu for each day we stayed. In catering for a 'gourmet' style experience the choice of food unfortunately was mainly too rich or exotic for normal taste buds. No 'normal' fare for children or younger adults. In short ok if you are a 'foody' but not for the common man/woman.
Excellent location and comfortable, first rate accommodation. Food, for the most part, very good but service undermined delivery.
Excellent menu and good quality food undermined by service and delivery. Charging high end prices means that service and delivery needs to be spot on and it was not. Food not always hot enough. Wine not served to our liking and we were not waited on.
The food top end
The spa area is well appointed, spotless and quiet, with lovely views. A particular plus is the outdoor jacuzzi, overlooking the lake. The hotel is luxuriously and comfortably furnished. It has an authentic country house feel. Staff are friendly and attentive. Although I have mentioned some points for improvement, this wouldn't put me off staying here again, as it's such a lovely place.
Although the food quality is excellent, portions are on the small side, for the price and often there are no potatoes of any description with main courses. I think this should be an option, at least. The cooked breakfast is also on the parsimonious side with only one piece of everything and half a piece of black pudding on offer. Fresh orange juice would also be nice! I'm basing this review on comparisons with similarly priced hotels I've stayed in.
Excellent spa (with reasonably priced treatments), friendly, helpful staff and comfortable bedroom and communal lounge. It is in a really nice location. Full Welsh Breakfast was great!
We felt some things were priced on the high side.
the lounge and dining rooms were good. the breakfast was good. the evening meal was fine dining and i thought overpriced at £45 per head. also the wine was very expensive.
we had to travel a long way to get to other places of interest. The weather was good which made it better. we ate out on the second night because of the expense. also the evening meal was the same for all nights of the week.
Attentive and Caring Staff Lovely bedrooms Spacious lodge and grounds with relaxed ambience in beautiful countryside Great facilities
Nothing not to like here unless you've completely misjudged your requirements
Food was very good although very small portions, room very good, hotel kept nice, staff friendly, wine list excellent
When you travel solo i always feel you are treated differently then when you are a couple, seem to get ignored. bed too soft but thats not really a problem, fishing in the adjacent river costs £25.00 this should be free to guests
Very relaxed atmosphere and friendly environment from the moment we arrived.
Car parking immediately in front of the hotel spoilt the setting.
location and grounds staff friendly but no one asked if we everything is ok
disappointing stayed in suite not comfortable museum piece TV no turn down didnt realise that we were not in main house no umbrellas in room and rained poor meal did not eat second night main course cold spa fully booked on arrival only one member of staff on duty
We enjoyed our stay. The Hotel grounds were a pleasure to walk around and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The facilities available were very good.
Although the meals served were good, the evening meals available were overpriced at £45.00 pp and the cheapest wine was in the region of £25.00 making a very expensive evening. Because of the remoteness of the hotel the visitor was trapped into paying this, unless they visited the pubs away from the hotel where the food was just 'pub food.'
Friendly and helpful staff Dog Friendly (dog friendly suites!) Relaxed Large Grounds Spa
Small Breakfast Buffet (but plenty on the menu) Small Gym
Location and facilities. Breakfast. Sitting room(s) in main house - so cosy ! Grounds. Friendliness of staff.
A wonderful hotel in a perfect setting. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. The owner met us as we arrived and gave us a free room upgrade!
the individuality of the hotel , staff very friendly and not too formal very comfortable [ beds] and food fabulous
Extensive grounds; leaflet recommending local walks within the grounds and beyond. Lovely walk round the lake. Characterful late Victorian house tastefully furnished. Superb swimming pool; treatment centre attached; my wife's back pains much less after massage. Excellent food and drink promptly served in lounge, dining room and breakfast room., Immediate helpful attention from all the staff from the moment we arrived. V. comfortable bed in quiet bedroom. Made a quite perfect anniversary breaj.
Beautiful, well appointed room, clean and luxurious public rooms, quiet, understated but attentive service, beautiful grounds
Muddle over supper options, menu appears to only offer a flat rate £45 for 4 course supper,
Location is great and the spa is very nice.
We loved the wonderful surroundings and the beautiful interior. Our evening meal was delicious and when we ordered our picnic for the next day it was presented in a lovely rustic bag. The staff were so helpful and efficient, nothing was too much trouble for them. We would like to return for a longer stay soon. Thank you so much
As I have mobility issues I would have preferred my suite to have been located on a lower floor, but I appreciate that previously this was a family home and not a purpose built hotel. Nevertheless we enjoyed our time with you very much and can't wait to return.
Set in beautiful grounds
Restaurant food was unimaginative and not value for money
The bedroom was large with two easy chairs. The staff were very helpful and the food - £45 for 4 courses - while a bit expensive was very good. This was the Royal Welsh Show week so probably more expensive than off-peak, but worth the stay.
Wish I'd have had the time to try the Spa. Nothing else
It is a beautifully located and peaceful hotel which is made out to a very high standard. We will be back!
There is nothing to dislike.
Country house ambience
Lack of places to eat out because of remote situation. Dinner was a treat but too expensive on a nightly basis.
Comfortable room and excellent ensuite. Very good food Excellent service and staff very capable and friendly Nothing was too much trouble
A wonderful hotel that has everything you would want for a relaxing break. Great food, beautiful bedrooms, great wifi, attentive and friendly staff, wonderful spa, grounds and peace and quiet. A real hidden gem.
