the food was outstanding. The were helpful and friendly
Location good and staff very helpful. Breakfast of a high standard and served at a sensible time. Not nearly as noisy as I was expecting, given location.
Room very small and quite basic although all facilities provided. Bathroom in need of update.
The staff took my heavy bag upstairs for me to my room, the location is right near York Minster and easy walking distance to all the great attractions in York
Fire alarms went off one night for quite a while (false alarm),
the food was great , staff were friendly.
the room was very small, there was a draft coming from gap around the window frame. The room in general could do with a freshen up
Nice bed but room 10 is next to a very noisy extraction fan.
Bar area smelled rather stale. The whole place needs a revamp
The Staff could not do enough for me and my mum, nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner in the Hotel which was lovely and breakfast which was one of the best I have had. The location of the Hotel is fab, so close to everything.
A little noisy as our room was on the Street side, but would not stop us from staying again.
Location Food Real ales Staff helpfulness
Stairs to top floor room
Staff were amazing - they kept the kitchen open longer as they knew I would arrive until just after it was meant to close. Staff in the evening just as friendly as the ones doing breakfast. Breakfast was very good.
Loved the old building and the lovely original features. Really friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast.
comfort, location, staff, restaurant food, beer breakfast, ambience,Can't wait for summer to get out into the beer garden.
the fact we had to come home.
The staff were very helpful and the location was excellent for York's attractions
We were situated on the 3rd floor and no lift available. Steep stairs. Although a parking permit was available the car park was a 10 minute walk. Room was very basic for what they described as luxury. Street noise from people (students) in the late evening. Compared to other hotels we have stayed in for similar price this was not good value.
Staff and the quality of the food at this inn were first-rate.
Rooms are described as 'luxuriously appointed', which is a description that is quite seriously misleading, I think. Our room, the attic, had to be accessed via a set of very narrow, steep stairs. The switch to light these was at the top! The room itself was adequate, certainly for just two nights; it was not luxurious! I would return - but just for the food!
Loved it's quirky charm. Staff were lovely and friendly, top marks to them. great location and great food.
Could do with a bit of redecorating!
The room was compact (we knew that when we booked) but it had everything we needed. The bed was large and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. We booked for an evenong meal on the second night which was delicious. The staff were all pleasant and helpful.
Great place to stay for shopping in york. Good service and fantastic breakfast.
Booked a meal in the restaurant which was small and uncomfortable steak came out cold but was taken back immediately and changed the table was unstable and we had to ask for cutlery. We also had to ask for drinks which isn't very professional. Would stay again but not dine in the restaurant
lovely old pub with lots of charactor.
Mattress could have been deeper and firmer.
Bedroom and location!
An awful smell of bleach downstairs in the bar and corridors- too strong!
Loved the feel, hospitality and the FOOD!!!! Nice selection of real ales, cozy warm place. Very friendly environment.
Can be a little noisy in bed at night but it's a pub so can live with it.
Lovely atmospheric pub, and food was good, good location.
Overpriced accommodation, Needs to up its game to reflect price, wouldn't re-visit to stay as get better accommodation for the same price. But would visit the pub. Staff slow / not enough staff ?
Very cosy, distinctive and characterful accommodation. Staff were very welcoming and helpful, allowing me to leave my bag securely with them for the day, after my overnight stay.
The room was at the front of the building and sound proofing through the window was not that good. Light sleepers may find this a bit of a challenge. A new mattress for the bed would be a good enhancement.
lovely helpful staff
bed uncomfortable and room too hot
food and drink
we requested a lower level room a week in advance of our stay because of the wifes walking difficulties.we had an email from central reservations saying they would do their best to accomodate us.On arrival they had us down for the top floor. We settled for the second much to the wifes discomfort. Is their a communication problem?

Fantastic location, lovely fresh breakfast, view of the Minster from room and helpful staff.
Stayed in loft room and there was a horrible damp patch on the ceiling.
