The Black Boy is a 16th-century inn within Caernarfon's historic town walls. It has good real ales, hearty meals, and is an easy walk from the town centre and 13th-century castle.
Score from 551 reviews Superb

Score from 134 reviews Good
good value old fashioned charm which is lacking in hotel chains that often cost far more, but with modern facilities - well located in pretty seaside resort.
I made a last minute booking and it still had a single room left when the rest of North Wales was full.
everything especially the restuarant
bar food plus location close to Portmadog and railways Nice sea view walks
Nothing of note
Good location, well appointed room, plus parking right outside the room.
Buffet style breakfast was acceptable, not exceptional.
The Location and the Bar and Bar food facilities
The Damp Smelling Room
Nice bathroom and good sausages
Outstanding customer service at reception Comfortable bed Excellent dinner in the bar Reasonably spacious room Good location Friendly staff
Some areas in significant need of updating/upgrading Some bedroom fixtures and fittings looking tired/old fashioned Peach valance on the bed! Breakfast buffet was very 'budget'
Everything I needed in room. Staff helpfull.
Decor of room dated
Rooms were comfortable. Staff in the hotel/reception area very helpful, not quite so with the staff in the bar area.
Cooked breakfasts were disappointing. Fortunately there was cereal, yogurt and fruit. the tinned fruit rathr disappointing and not very good quality.
The sea view & the food
The friendly staff, the old fashioned ambience of the reception area, the location and the comfortable room.
The staff were helpful and showed a willingness to meet specific needs ie providing a breakfast earlier than normal due to an early departure
Staff were very pleasant & welcoming Breakfast - great Room very pleasant Wifi - great Beds comfortable with plenty of pillows, blankets etc. Fantastic location - sea and castle view
Coffee - awful Declined first room offer- desperately in need of an update Bathroom door kept banging when closed, noisy flush on toilet Bar staff not so friendly - only went once!
no enough parking for disabled
Hotel is close to town center.
I got a family suite room, but it was very small. The double bed was too small, windows not clean, all night could hear noise from the people that leave upstairs ( floor noise, hearing all steps from upstairs). In all hotel there is a bad smell because of the old furniture inside and tiny place.
The receptionist on duty desk. Apologetic and keen to make amends.
The poor facilities which are tired, dated and dirty. Book a family room, expect a bath ! Noisy room, 23. Cleaners outside room at 07:30 a.m swearing. Most unprofessional. Never had an experience like it, ever. Poor, I'm sorry to say.
Helpful, friendly staff, clean ,and comfortable doggie friendly always important to us. Well situated ,close to beach which we love . Decor would benefit from a fresh coat of paint in bedrooms but that is being really picky!! .
Difficult to say nothing of any major significance. There is always areas that can be improved , again that is being picky. As a cook by trade I thought the dinner menu was a little disjointed. Chef needs a lesson in roast potatoes! . Excellent chocolate pavlova .
Location of the hotel is good. Comfortable rooms and good food. The service by staff was good.
Location was good and we had nice views in some Of the rooms. Food in the bar and at breakfast was average. 3 out of the 4 rooms we booked were ok but maybe a little old fashioned.
One the double rooms we booked was not up to standard. At the same price as the others it was ridiculous. It was damp, old fashioned, noisy and smelly. We complained to the lady on desk but her response was defensive and unhelpful. Her only comment was that they were thinking of making the other rooms more expensive than this one?! There is very little quality in the rooms to charge more than £91, that was plenty. They should have moved us or reduced the rate for the room which was below standard ( room 21). But they didn'T. They didn't seem to care. Very poor service. We found a newly renovated hotel on the coast while staying there which only charged £100 a night- unfortunately it was fully booked.
Bar food was good Breakfast sausages were good Location
Cramped room Old biscuit under bed
I liked the location. I thought the first lady we met was friendly and helpful. Bed and breakfast lovely. The bar was nice.
I was very disappointed in that the toilet in the ensuite wasn't as clean as I would have liked it. this was my first port of call when we arrived in our room....there was poo on the rim of the toilet and I had to clean it off before letting my family use it. this put me off everything at the hotel, but my husband told me it was only a little thing but as cleaning is one of my three jobs that is one thing I would never leave in my toilets!!! The bedding was spotless though. this is my only grumble.
