From our country house hotel by the sea, the only thing we overlook is the bay. Our spectacular clifftop location offers a 180 degree sea view over Carlyon Bay.
Score from 211 reviews Very good
Set in 2 acres of gardens, Talland Bay Hotel has a 2 AA Rosette-awarded restaurant, by the sea in Cornwall. The coastal path is just minutes away.

In 43 acres of parkland, this stunning 19th-century manor house has a luxurious spa, a gym and an infinity pool. It offers a range of accommodation just a few miles from The Eden Project.

Decor, cleanliness, facilities, staff and location. The breakfast was generous and quality of food was good.
The bar food was tasty but very expensive for the portion size. We would not recommend anyone eat in the bar purely because of the very meagre portion sizes. The staff were very pleasant but some were obviously not trained properly. It is not their fault and we enjoyed meeting them. A minor point: the bathroom sink tap did not work easily and needs attention. Carpet in breakfast room needs attention too.
I know the area well and was pleased that the building was refurbished a number of years ago. Its been very well done.
No one to check us in on arrival at 8pm, only 1 chap on in the bar restaurant due to staff shortage and lack of training in service with staff generally. The hotel itself is very good but the service needs sharpening up. Food very good.
The décor is lovely.
Its an expensive hotel and the food is only OK.
Very comfortable spacious room.
Food didn't match up to the accommodation.
Loved the furnishings, the large comfortable bed and the food. May be next time we will stretch to a sea view room
I thought the lady singer Saturday evening in the restaurant was rather loud and the room itself a bit chilly at first although it did get more comfortable later.
Comfort food location !
Lacked a pool or hot tub.
Breakfast in bed, sumptuous beds, pillow menu, fabulous shower, groovy lighting. Attentive staff, nothing too much trouble, excellent food and service in the Restaurant. Attentive Manager. Free, easy parking, great toiletries. Lovely to take afternoon tea on the sunny terrace and to relax and catch up on the internet in the lovely lounge too. Lovely selection of biccies and beverages in the room, too. This was our second visit, and we will be returning soon, we have travelled everywhere, but this is one of our favourites. Home from Home in our opinion...
Rooms, Breakfast Terrace selection of draught beers/lagers furnishings On discussing with staff the problems of the hotel they like I could see the problem. The owner needs to invest not only on the property but the Staff and local community
Lack of atmosphere Lack of guidance training for staff Lack of reference to local community no Cornish pub theme aside to hotel Terrace dinning area too open Bar area again to big for amount of guests Display of numerous references to Champagne. I think we all know it exists
position and access to beach room and view
shortage of staff no chef two of four nights stay dogs allowed on external seating young staff left to cope on their own no white bread at breakfast shop ten minutes away where were management team
Contemporary hotel in a fantastic sheltered cove in Cornwall. Bed looked great and very comfortable. Views to sea distant but still lovely. Staff were understanding when we pointed out the ongoing problems.
Tragic staff training, no interaction with customers. Reception on arrival was uninspired and unwelcoming. Found old tea bag wrappers under cupboard in room. Carpet stained and some dusty surfaces. Couldnt put the radiator on, confusing unresolved issues with extractor fan and heating. Room not replenished with tea bags, toiletries or toilet roll after being away for the day! This appears a business in free-fall. The management are to blame not the staff though, the manager corssed our path twice and not a word spoken which seems odd for a hotel with few rooms. This hotel has the raw material to be special but the overall experience given the price was in my opinion poor.
The appointment of the hotel was good
Staff were at best amateur although willing and the quality of the food and was inconsistent. If the hotel is aiming upmarket it needs to get it's act together.
Beautiful bedroom, lovely comfortable bed, fab breakfast. A hidden gem in Cornwall.
Fluffy bathrobes, topping up toiletries and hospitality tray each day and not havin chipped mug in room on first day would have earned 5 stars from us. Absolutely fantastic hotel n every other respect, just let down by I attention to little details in a boutique hotel, but we are being picky! Also, hotel should give directions for best road out of hotel in their welcome pack, as the road through Mevagissey, with it's very busy one-way system, is to be avoided.
Having to ask staff for items during food, that should have been standard practice. The room could have been cleaner, minor details.
Nice, rather smallish hotel with high ambitions. Positiv: Playstation in the room. Car park next to the house.
Some areas in the room were definitely not clean. Dirty signage (e.g. information from the hotel which definitely went through the hands of 3 guests as a minimum, used napkins in a drawer). Unfortunately, neither a telephone in the room nor mobile reception (in the whole hotel and in most of the village). The wifi password that was mentioned in the info material was wrong. Not very professional.
Amazing hotel in a peaceful location. Room quality and amenities were superb. Cleanliness inside was very good and the patio areas are a real strength. Good breakfast in pleasantly decorated modern rooms ditto the lounge and bar areas Bar service was good and reasonably priced as were the meals Food was very good Great WiFi internet access and easy parking once you find the hotel A great stay and would definitely go back
Quite remote, so might put some people off with narrow roads and lanes as you approach the hotel. The rest below is not really criticism, but observations Could use an iron in each room (they were available on request) and a fridge would set it aside and raise it to 5 star for me Staff could be a little more engaging with customers, always polite and efficient though Felt that the outside patios needs a little more attention to detail as this is a real selling point for the hotel, so having put up fantastic chrome railings, and external garden furniture, it feels like they need a little more TLC to keep it all shiny and clean and keep wowing customers.
Great location, relaxed atmosphere, very comfortable rooms, good food, very helpful and friendly maturer bar / waitress lady during our stay.
Having two very young waiting staff serving quite and expensive evening meal having had no or little training. Your lady a breakfast having little idea about being polite or happy. We paid quite a high daily rate for a lovely hotel but the hotel's management (never seen during stay) have let our review slip quite some way because of their seemingly under trained staff... its all very good training on the job but when guests are paying it has to be up to scratch from the word go I'm afraid. Having said that we would like to try this hotel again and hope this issue was a one off.
Apart from the fabulous location, the hotel offered all of the little touches that make for a truly relaxing holiday. Great place. Will return soon!
Great little hotel nice rooms. Quiet little beach more suitable for walks then lounging on the beach. Not far from family beaches if you need.
Only down side was no mobile signal.
Nice location near the beach. Very comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Waitress in dining room in evening very helpful and efficient. Food excellent.
Room was not clean when we arrived. Lots of dust and bed not made properly next day. No clean towels on the last day (washer had apparently broken down). Finally got some at about 7pm. Service in at breakfast appalling. Wrong orders and one day the chef didn't turn up at all. Complaint at front desk greeted with smirk - no apology.
We loved the boutique style furniture around the hotel. The main dining room is very stylish as are the bedrooms and bathrooms. The food is very good, but as this all good things you will need to wait an appropriate amount of time. Everything is cooked to order. The menus have a lot to offer. Could do with a daily special. the beds are very comfortable.
The childrens' menu is everything with chips - pizza, burgers, goujons (though freshly made whole chicken). Would like to see smaller versions of adult meals with vegetables, or even sausage and mash. Please could we have proper food not high end versions of McKentucky.
Room design, size and layout. Friendly helpful staff.
Fine dining not up to expectations. Would have preferred a menu that reflected the location. No tablecloths nor linen napkins. Rooms very dusty especially the wallpaper.
Hotel was remote and driving was required for almost anything, breakfast was not good, evening meals were fine, advertised Internet but the room I was in had none even through the earth net wire, I had to sit in the main bar area to get a signal, I have also been charged twice of the acc, once by the booking agent and then again on my card when I left, I checked out 3 days early as I was not satisfied by the lack of anything to do etc
I was there with family for a couple of days, and all the staff did every thing to help us feel the best even my difficult 13 year old one. The rooms are top as well as the food and the surroundings some of the best in Cornwall. Will return for sure!!
Good food in particular lunch. Helpful restaurant staff.
A tired room with a view of weeds onto the flat roof. Facilities in bathroom did not work properly and curtain falling off. A general air of indifference with a constant stream of pipped music. Not a particularly welcoming place.
Low on coat hangers. Basin tap very difficult to operate correctly. Told reception about it but nothing happened!
