Beautiful location is the first thing that strikes you. The lodge is the only building around for miles which is perfect if you want solitude. There were fields of rabbits right behind the building which brightened our day. Staff were great particularly the barman who was a part time actor. Great 2 days away.
The only thing that bothered me was no air conditioning. I guess because of the age of the building but our room was a little too stuffy for my liking. Could be a problem in a summer heatwave. I think fans would help here.
Staff very friendly, informative and welcoming. Would recommend it to others.
The receptionist was very offhand to the point of rudeness, but the other lass was reasonably helpful and pleasant. the room was quite clean and comfortable
the name is the Lodge at Winchelsea, the address given is Rye, and actually the Lodge is out of Winchelsea on the Hastings side and thus very hard to find although it is on the main road if you keep going long enough.
Set in beautiful countryside and near to many places of interest.
Couldn't' open our window.
towels did not dry in wet room as the towel rail not hot.
The very friendly welcome we received following a very exacting journey. The English breakfast was one of the best my husband has had!
staff attitude Food cleanliness comfortable position
Everything else other than the basic included breakfast was fine.
Breakfast (continental style) included in the price was disappointing in that no cold meat i.e. ham etc was provided. However a cooked breakfast was available at extra cost.
good location ,clean etc
booking online gives you the choice only of the lesser quality rooms
A very relaxed atmosphere but not too casual, staff were on hand for anything we required and 'smiled', will be returning.
The surrounding, nature
The breakfast was very brief, not defintly even comparable to typical three star hotels offerings
really friendly staff very clean
towels could have been bath sheets and continental breakfast was limited
Staff views rooms vicinity
no fan in room for hot days only 1 chair
Beautiful location, big clean spacious rooms, good car parking facilities, private entrance.
Staff very friendly and helpful
shower was very noisy
Friendly welcome, great food in the restaurant, excellent shower, good location.
Rather dated 70's décor and tired furnishings.
Very friendly staff and lovely views of the countryside
Location, watching the sheep out our window.
It wasn't clean at all. There was a big poop streak on the toilet!!! The rest of the room just felt a little dirty, things weren't up to four star hotel status at all. We got the breakfast and ordered the free continental breakfast and the scotch pancakes. The continental breakfast consisted of toast which was good (how do you mess it up?), tea that was over-brewed, milk with weird bits in it, yogurt/cereal which was fine and a bowl of rotting fruit. The fruit was disgusting and old despite it being the middle of the summer so really they could have done better! The scotch pancakes were 4.50 and were disgusting.
everyone was very pleasant and helpful; rooms were serviced daily which was a bonus; food was excellent!
rooms although clean were 'tired' and needed updating and decorating
location, Good menu ,friendly staff
Not much but one of the beds was a touch soft
The Lodge was nicely placed and convenient for our overnight stay after attending a local wedding.
The staff were polite and respectful but we did not feel there was a warm welcome - not one of them smiled!
Evening menu not very adventurous, could be improved Noisy, from adjacent rooms
Food staff was lovely
Room was to crampt place for tea and coffee all wrong needs to be looked into
Spacious room overlooking fields of grazing sheep. Friendly, hardworking staff
Uncomfortable bed and lack of sound proofing. Our evening consisted of listening to a rowing couple, somebody else's TV and a man coughing so badly I was expecting an ambulance to be called. Rooms a little tired. Would have preferred healthier options at breakfast.
location staff cavery parking bed
bathroom needs updating
