No viewing window, small bathroom, dogs allowed to stay in rooms
The staff were very kind.....breakfast choice was very limited...... Hope they serve hot breakfast in the winter..... Otherwise a very nice stay......
We were visiting the area to do some climbing at the Honister Via Ferrata, and found the lodge to be just what we needed for accommodation. We had a family room, and were happy with the quality of the fixings - great TV and fast WIFi. The shower room is excellent, and cleanliness was very good throughout. There is also a very useful in-room safe. The staff were friendly and helpful, and were able to accommodate a change to our booking - thank you.
The lodge is 3 or 4 miles away from the nearest town, and the nearby hotel/pub doesn't have great vegetarian choices - this is a general problem throughout the area.
No dinner. We went to the recommended pub, which we found not too great.
The location was perfect, the hotel was modern and clean
The lack of a cooked breakfast option was disappointing. The food available was limited and poor
position, rooms and breakfast.
The staff are the stars at this small hotel - very helpful and welcoming. Also appreciated the range of continental breakfast on offer.
The double room I was in (room four) was very small and wouldn't be comfortable for more than an overnight's stay. Overall, the hotel has good facilities but it is clearly lacking maintenance and TLC for such a recently built development.
Was modern, felt lovely inside and cosy, wasnt hassled for anything just easy going. would recommend even with some bad points
In the ad it looked like it was set back from everything but it was quite close to the main road which we didnt expect n at times felt like we was in a foreign country because the staff spoke a different language
The location, the style, the continental breakfast as we are not big breakfast eaters so it served our purpose. Was nice and quiet too.
The room we booked was a bit on the small side.
Good Value, no fuss, quite.
Would have liked a hot breakfast
Simple uncluttered rooms modern comfortable very clean throughout the Lodge good price and location
The lodge was really one of the best places we have stayed on our trip. The staff was lovely and very accommodating, the room was quite nice, rather zen-like, in a very good way!
The location was good
The bed was very hard. There is no restaurant on site. The cafe only did light snacks. The room is like a travel lodge but twice the price
Situation in beautiful vale peace and quiet. Close to all places we wanted to visit, keswick grasmere winderemere. Accomodation was clean and well run.staff friendly and helpful, tea making facilities in room were welcome. Enjoyed continental breakfast.
We couldnt think of anything to dislike about the lodge in the vale. If anything car park could be a bit bigger.
The scenery from the Lodge windows was breath-taking. Good choice on the Continental Breakfast front. A mere 5 miles from Keswick. Lodge has an agreement with a nearby pub which means 10% discount off meals on production of your room key.
The paper thin walls meant a whole night of listening to the dogs in the next room yapping every time someone blinked too noisily. Also meant I became overly familiar with the nighttime toilet habits of those in the rooms either side of ours. The rooms are neat and tidy but very basic. For the amount we paid, I expected more. Also found that our room was unbearably warm and stuffy despite having the window wide open - a bit of a risk as we were on the ground floor but needs must. Mattresses are quite hard and I woke up both mornings with a sore back and neck. This is more personal preference, I know, but anyone else out there that is used to soft and fluffy, be warned.
Clean from inside
Incredibly dirty on the outside, with spiders and Webs hanging fron walls and windows even in the area made to sit outside where massive spiders were hanging right on top where you had to sit.
We stayed at the lodge in the vale in sept 2014 for my husbands 30th birthday trip away. After searching on booking.com to find a b&b in keswick I came across this little gem. I read the reviews and decided to book. Booking was all nice and easy and there were no problems. The lodge itself is easy to find, put the postcode into Google maps and it did the rest :-) We were very happy when we arrived, the place is gorgeous, enough space for parking, friendly greeting and inside it looks more like a hotel than a b&b. We got advised where and when breakfast would be served and that no hot meals were available but that the closest pub is a 15 min walk and gives u a discount if u mention your staying at the lodge. I was dubious about going to the pub after reading the reviews but we went one nite and were pleasantly surprised.......The food was delicious, service was good and the bill after the discount, even better! Our room at the lodge was cleaned daily, we had a lovely view out of the window. Shower was clean, good constant temperature and good water pressure. Breakfast was self service continental but the girls behind the counter were more than happy to help whenever they could. Food was yummy. The lodge is just off the A591 (I think that's the right one) and is a 10 min drive to keswick.
The only slight problem was the mattress. Personally it was just too hard for me, but I knew it wasn't going to be the softest after reading reviews. I'm sure that staff would be happy to provide an extra duvet or blanket for u to lay on but I never asked. Overall it was brilliant and I would happily stay again and would recommend to anyone :-)
Beautiful countryside and views
No meals. We knew about this tho.
Comfy bed Breakfast - very good choice Clean room and towels changed every two nights Good shower Helpful staff - happy to meet requests. I lost the key and the staff were very understanding
Noise from the road - right outside the window Very hot in the room at night - couldnt turn temperature down. TV hard to see from the bed. A proper evening eatery would have been good - only one pub nearby and quite a long way to walk Some of the rooms we were shown were quite small. We had a large disabled one on the ground floor....
To access the surrounding area. Nice breakfast. Clean. Friendly staff.
Bit warm, had to open window.
Was nic and clean staff helpful.
That you had to drive to the bar to have a few drinks and therefore couldn't have too many
Location, decent bed
Shame breakfast is limited (is advertised as continental), would prefer cooked. Café bar...be good if also stocked a local bottled ale. Room was a slightly on the small side, poor ventilation in bathroom - small shower!
It was clean
This is a glorified bunkhouse which is way over priced. The rooms have no carpets and the bathroom is tiny for a double room and shower didn't work too well. For the same money you get incredible value else where in places with better locations to restaurants. For £100 per night you would at least expect speciality coffee in with the breakfast and not just a coffee flask! Way better value elsewhere.
Trying to find accessible accommodation in the Lake District is not easy. The Lodge had everything. Ease of access to reception, the coffee shop with lots of space between tables, a bedroom with 4 beds and enough space to move around and a wet room too.!!
I like the efficiency of staff, the breakfast, especially the brown bread! Very clean and 'no fuss' . Sometimes with B&B the owners are all too present, but this was friendly and casual. Its in a really good spot for getting out and seeing the Lake district. The road can be a bit noisy at times but the view is lovely.
For me the bed was a bit hard and the pillows a bit hard too. The room was rather hot but those are personal things. I wouldn't have liked to have been here in the hot weather, it would have been stifling I think. Tea from a large urn not briliant.
