Great staff, breakfast was good. Room was small but comfortable, booked a single as only option, would have preferred single occupancy in larger room even if it cost more.
Quite a dangerous road to cross to car park.
Excellent cooked breakfast and beautifully cooked meal in evening. Lovely ambience, relaxing and friendly
Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Food good. Car parking a big plus.
Wi-fi very intermittent, long periods when not working.
The reception, restaurant and room facilities and staff were excellent. The service was good and the staff very friendly and competent. The setting on the hill with a view over the town and beyond was ideal and we especially enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in the garden.
The stairway was a bit narrow and difficult to negotiate, but that was a minor problem.
The room was very clean and we had tea and coffee making facilities which was much appreciated. The dining room was clean with attractive decor and we had a lovely breakfast served by a friendly waitress. We would be happy to return.
The staff were helpful and friendly, breakfast was good (the only meal I had with you). Car park was a real benefit.
I had a single room (Room 15) and had to work while I was with you. The desk was small (but usable for a laptop) but the chair was ridiculous. I'm 6'1" and could not use the chair because it was so low and had to work on the bed.
The Mariners is very well placed for a stay in Lyme Regis and for exploring its environs. It is a very comfortable and welcoming hotel. In particular, we found the staff attentive, friendly and very professional. The food is very good and the public areas comfortable. A lovely short break!
Our only criticism is that the duvet on our bed could have been larger but this seems a small issue in an otherwise very comfortable stay.
The overall character of the hotel being a former 17th century coaching inn. A very good car park ( unusual in a picturesque seaside town ). The restaurant, possibly the best in the town and the location.
Our room although very attractive and pleasant was a little small, which some people may not like.
The location was good and the room was a good size and nicely decorated
I got the feeling that the owners were away and had left the hotel in the hands of junior staff. The noise emanating from the kitchen into the restaurant was unacceptable and unnecessary. The food was average considering the price paid. The staff congregated under our window to chat and smoke first thing in the morning. I was unable to use the bedside lamp as the four poster bed was placed over the power plug.
Made our trip easier didn't need to travel in one day
Shower outlet very poor, water did not drain, standing in inches of water, bathroom floor covered in water. Carpet in bedroom very dirty. Room 11 very hot and stuffy
No fuss hotel Lovely view from beer garden Clean hotel Quiet Dedicated parking area
The walk up the hill from the town Breakfast starts quite late (8.30am)
Incredibly helpful staff - definitely beyond what could reasonably be expected. Hotel is very clean. Good position. On one of the roads into Lyme but not noisy overnight. Very convenient to be able to park directly opposite hotel. On the edge of the town centre so easy to get to everything.
The hotel is up a fairly definite hill - which is not a problem for us. The town's main street is on a hill which is part of its charm.
Needed new curtains in bedroom
The position of the hotel and ease of parking opposite. The fact that we had a room at the back and this was therefore quiet. The breakfasts were excellent.
The en suite is small as is the bath, but the shower was very good. We used both. The stairs are narrow due to the age of the hotel, and would be limiting to a number of older people.
well decorated inside and out, beautiful garden, excellent breakfast, friendly welcome, good parking.
cooking smells are a bit pervasive as the kitchen is in the middle of the hotel, steep walk up from the harbour if you're not used to west country gradients.
Great staff, yummy breakfast, comfy bed, can walk to the beach - perfect, will return
The staff were all very helpful and friendly without being over the top. The sea view from the room was good. The fish in the restaurant was superb and the cheese platter was huge! Being able to leave the car in the hotel car park for an hour after check out was useful for a walk into town.
The only negative was the tiny amount of butter at breakfast. In fairness, when asked for more it was no problem, but another tiny portion.
Friendly staff and clean
Food was pretty poor which was a shame as the staff are very helpful
Good friendly service and comfortable room close to town which is downhill. Good food for dinner and breakfast.
Smokers in garden.
Breakfast was ok
. The hotel is extremely well managed and the staff all work as a team helping out when and where help is needed. The restaurant is as good as any in Lyme Regis with a very comfortable lounge to relax in after dinner. The rooms are very clean and the beds comfortable. One of the friendliest hotels i have stayed at in a very long time.
Their really isn't much to dislike. It would be nice to have a clock in the room and to supply flannels in the bathroom.
Excellent and helpful staff with knowledge of the area.
It would appear that the dinner menu was not changed daily.
The person in charge was extremely helpful and looked up walking directions for us, following up his enquiries. We were very impressed. The lounge and garden were splendid with beautiful views to the sea.
There was nothing we did not like.
The location is good and some of the staff do try hard to be welcoming
The bed we slept in was poor. When one of us moved it woke the other up. Clearly the pocket sprung divans found in almost every other hotel have not made it to the Mariners. The other problem came at our second breakfast. Porridge might be on the menu, but the chef clearly didn't know how to cook it. It came the shape and consistency of a brick. We had to send it back along with instructions as to how to rectify the problem. The lady on the next table had suffered the same problem, but soldiered on. When the waitress came to collect the plate she pointed out that the porridge was inedible. The result was the waitress giving the lady a dressing down for not telling her earlier. Poor customer service in front of a lot of other diners. All this is very poor at came at a high price.
