In a 16th-century inn, Castle and Ball is rich in character, and features a traditional restaurant and ale bar. The inn is situated on Britain’s widest high street, in the heart of Marlborough.

from check in to check out excellant accomadation lovely breakfast fulfilling would stay here again staff very accomadating
Rooms well decorated. Bed and pillows and linen all delightful.Coffee maker a lovely surprise.Good TV.Very clean.
Water pressure in shower very low.Cold in restaurant.Cracked window pane.Woken in the early hours to the sound and vibrations of a washing machine somewhere!
Location great for walk around the town. Room very well appointed. Bed extremely comfy with nice big mattress. Real log fire in the bars were a treat.
Be prepared for slightly creaky floor boards (as you'd expect in a medieval pub) as people move about the rooms.
Comfort, friendliness of the staff and location.
Nothing springs to mind
Staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful, also had a great evening meal in the restaurant, room very pleasant.
Right on high street. Quirky old building with creaky floors, odd shaped rooms and an abundance of original features but with a modern vibe / twist. Friendly and helpful staff. Yummy breakfast. I'd recommend to friends / family and am very likely to stay here again.
The food served at dinner was trying to be fine dining but just missing the mark. They used great ingredients and in my opinion would be better sticking to more of an upmarket gastropub which I think would be a great success. Could do with a revamp of the yard at the back to maximise parking.
Ambience Food was good Friendliness Bedroom good
Car parking area Access to bedroom through office/staffroom/store? Shower was useless...still waiting for reply from management re.this Hairdryer not working, we were told we would get a replacement...we didn't!
Fabulous bed, gorgeous en-suite bathroom, with heated floor when we stayed in the Library Room. Great location, tucked down by the Church and gorgeous independent local shops.
Shame about the noise from the bar late at night and first thing in the morning with scraping chairs. Room very difficult to regulate the heat, either too cold or too hot we were unable to get that right, which spoilt a good nights sleep :-(. Would recommend converting to a wireless room thermostat to control the temperature?
Very friendly welcome, helpful, country pub feel. Management and staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating.
Only fault was that it is hard to keep such an old building really snug and warm during a cold snap which was while we were there.
Location feel of the age of the building bar downstairs helpful staff
Room over bar very noisy until close fortunately quite early would not suggest you opt for the fourposter other than that good
Staff very accommodating and friendly. excellent breakfast. Bar/dining area well decorated and stylish.
The bathroom was very small and the shower tray plughole was blocked. one wall in bathroom showing signs of damp. One drawer in chest of drawers unusable due to knobs missing!? Worst of all, our room was "Savernake", which is above either an air con unit or boiler - VERY noisy!
Comfortable bed and friendly staff
very small room, no wardrobe to hang clothes - had to ask for hangers and use shower curtain rail, no shower curtain so had to dry floor after shower, 2 of the 3 ceiling lights in shower room didn't work which made shaving a bit of a lottery, WC cistern had become unattached from the wall, window latch in bedroom broken. In other words maintenance was appalling! Asked for brown toast at breakfast - long delay because someone had to go to the supermarket (almost the other end of the High Street) to buy a loaf. Fawlty, eat your heart out!
Room lovely, quality bedding, nice furnishings
Noisy, could hear and feel all passing traffic. Lots of activity along the creaky corridors from early in the morning.
The location was good. The bed was very comfortable. The room was not too hot and we could open the window. The place felt more like a restaurant with some bedrooms rather than a hotel.
Lack of plug sockets in the room (only one double socket and nowhere near the mirror, which caused problems when drying hair) The long delay in breakfast being served (at least 1/2 hr both days), when there were only 4 people having breakfast. Slightly misled on the amount of free parking spaces.
I had chance to chat to various staff members and , from chef to operations mgr to reception to Coco the chocolate lab, they are all wonderful. The location is brilliant for the College and one feels this place really has history. My breakfast was very nicely done
The library suite is hardly a suite. It is unnervingly placed so that, right outside your door could be a member of staff sitting working on the computer, like a modern-day dezhurnaya from a russian hotel in the 1970s! I took earplugs - warned that the room is above the bar- thanks for the warning. There is no chair in the room - this needs fixing ASAP. Also they must put a ledge in the shower to put gel/soap.
Lovely comfortable 4 poster bed with wonderful feather duvet and pillows - blissful !
very friendly staff, great breakfast, good location for Stonehenge etc
we had a double room with en suite for 3 nights but nowhere to sit except on the bed also no hanging space for jackets etc
Good food friendly staff and a comfortable bed right on the high street what more do you need. Lovely old building with ope fires and also dog friendly. Will stay here again.
A fantastic 'old English' pub. The staff were friendly, efficient and very helpful.
The food was outstanding but very expensive. Sometimes you just want a simple, reasonably priced stake!
Great remodel without trying too hard great food - great fires - pleasant young staff very good job
oops young staff meant no one knew how to turn heat on so we had no heater in minus i don't know what weather cold snap. However great feather bed and duvet took care of that
Free WiFi, super friendly staff, beautiful location, offered free parking but you won't get more than a couple of cars in there. Bed was very comfy. Cute bathroom. Hdmi input tv so my chromecast worked :)
Bed sheets seemed a tad dirty or maybe need replacing, just a tad overused. Just a little bit cramped.
Staff extremely courteous, the setting, the food, the room, the comfort and the historical warm feeling.
The staff and owner were all very friendly and having checked out a few other pubs in Marlborough this is the best one. Food is amazing!
