Score from 186 reviews Excellent
beautiful location; courteous staff; large, comfortable room, easily accessible; convenient for transport including Derwentwater launch; easy parking; lots of garden birds encouraged by feeders close to windows
Everything was great, it's the second time we've stayed here and the setting and views, comfort of the room, etc. was just as good. This time we ate in the restaurant which was good too.
Really small détails but for a hotel of this level of comfort we think it'd be nicer to be able to order meals at your table rather than at the bar, and table-cloths would give a more classy and less of a cafeteria feel.
Beautiful Views and Grounds. Spacious room with a well equipped bathroom. Friendly and attentive staff. Location, Location, Location.
No WiFi in room. No baked beans or fried bread with breakfast. Small menu for dinner though meals we had were very nice.
Location is perfect. Hotel is spot on. Staff are superb. Food is good. We had a grwat break and will certainly return.
As with most hotels, It seems normal to charge £17.50 for a bottle of very average wine. I do wish they wouldn't do this. £12 quid would still give them a good 200% mark-up.
Lovely spot. Warm and welcoming. Friendly and efficient staff.
Service good, room excellent
the room, the food and general atmosphere of the hotel were very good and the manager was really friendly and welcoming. We will certainly be returning for a longer stay.
unfortunately there was some end of season works being carried out but it was not a major problem.
Ambience,service,menu,room,and the dogs
Everyone friendly can't do enough for you.
The situation was beautiful and near the lakeside and Lodore waterfall . The food was delicious and varied . We would certainly return as 2 nights was not long enough ..
The bedroom was in an annex and it was rather damp getting to the bar and dining room . May I suggest a large umbrella in the bedrooms !
The location is amazing being on the edge of the lake. You can get the lake launch from the hotel's grounds. The staff are lovely and we enjoyed our stay. Although our bathroom looked a little dated the shower was wonderful.
The only real negative for us was the short breakfast time of 8-9 am. It meant getting up a bit earlier than I would have liked!
The location excellent, friendly and helpful staff, exceptional dinner and meals. Well looked after.
Had to change room as room smelt - possibly smells from the kitchen. The bathrooms need some refreshers as smelt musty even in new rooms.
room was clean and quiet, staff were super
Friendly Staff and amazing views. Many walks and boat rides on Lake Derwent Water. Postcard View from our room.
Situated right on Lake side so views were fantastic. Staff were pleasant, helpful and always ready to help.
We did not stay long enough! Only had 3 nights.
The hotel is situated on the shore of the Derwent. It is reminiscent of an Edwardian country house, and the welcome extended to guests reinforces this atmosphere. The menu is excellent and the food beautifully presented. The staff are courteous and attentive.
Location Comfy bed
Food Bathroom was very basic Walls were very thin and noise from other rooms annoying
Lovely spacious room in new annex. Big bathroom with fabulous power shower. Beautiful location on edge of lake, next to jetty for Keswick launch. Lovely dining room overlooking the lake. Friendly staff.
First impression spoilt by the way cars were parked right up against the French windows in our ground floor rooms. Surely the car park could be put on the lower level and the area in front of the annex landscaped? Rather disappointed by the restaurant meals - essentially pub grub at restaurant prices and often overcooked. The puddings were delicious though.
Location, views, watching birds while eating breakfast. Only stayed for 2 nights. The hotel was full but you couldn't hear any other guests in adjoining rooms. Staff friendly.
Bed creaked every time moved. Supposed to be a hotel yet you had to go to bar to order food - I would expect this in a pub but not in a hotel of this standard. I was aware that dogs were welcome when booking but it was a bit annoying when some dogs outside were constantly barking when you were trying to enjoy a quiet lunch.
Location Comfort Friendly & attentive staff
A very we'll designed lay out. With space for all necessities!!
Position is very good but if permissible some tree pruning would improve view from ground floor level. View from Room 22 should have been 'stunning' but was greatly obscured by trees. Staff vey friendly and do their best but seem to be stretched to their limit and appear stressed. Bird feeding viewed from dining room was a nice feature.
Decor rather tired. Some seats with threadbare patches. Piped music. During afternoon strident music was turned down at my request but I was told that they couldn't turn it off - although I was the only guest in the lounge at that time. Cooking smells in ground floor corridors. Noisy kitchen/staff centrally located within hotel. Both doors to kitchen kept open - hence intrusive smell and noise. Noise particularly intrusive early morning for ground floor rooms. Some newspapers would have been appreciated. Food was stodgy. Prawn sandwich was tasteless and watery from de-frosting. Breakfast thrown together without finesse. Requested soft eggs were hard boiled. Poached eggs dumped on top of heap. Bacon cooked layered straight out of the package. Toast overdone. Although advertised as serving a selection of real ales, only one guest ale available. Curtains were falling off the rails. Bathroom for no 22 shabby. No shelves in bathroom for toiletries. Had to put toilet bags on top of WC cistern. Extractor fan and mirror light not working. Dirty shower curtain - was replaced after 2 days. Repair to veneer on bedside table repaired with tape. Strong smell of drains in the rear car park.
The comfort of our room and in the hotel in general ,the views from the dining room, the birds feeding by the windows as you ate your meals wonderful
The fact we could not stay longer
Location, scenery and the food, staff very good
Beautiful setting, comfortable rooms and public areas and friendly staff. Lovely to watch the birds feed while we fed.
The strong smell of fried food when we arrived.
