The location, which is sublime. The general air of 'shabby chic' and the labyrinthine old main building. Flavoured vodka and chocolate!

The restaurant in the evening was very average, with an unimaginative menu and rather overpriced. The bar food would have been better value. Will have that next time.

Being located in the main building.which gave us a sense of the history of the house. Would have been very disappointed to have been allocated a room in the modern annex

The bar food was unimaginative and had no healthy options.Seemed to be eggs with everything and no leafy green vegs.

I booked in during February - There was no record of it when we arrived !!! We were offered a room at the end of a corridor, with a view of the car park - which was refused !! We accepted the alternative offered - but it had a very dark paint and decor.

Adored the decor, the staff were very friendly, great breakfast and a lovely pub area for a good price. Location was also brilliant. Definitely worth a visit for a relaxed night away.

The only two points are the material on the chairs in the breakfast area was a bit grubby and that the bar staff got our dinner order wrong. Another food glitch meant we ate our dinner separately which was a shame as it was our anniversary, but the manager was very quick and friendly in getting the problem fixed.

Position of Hotel

Location in a quiet riverside village but able to get to other areas easily.

Whilst the restaurant served some lovely food the service was so fast that the inside of my fish was still cold.

Room very comfortable - decor quirky but nice. Living room & restaurant lovely.

The pub was a bit shabby / dark / downmarket but food was very good.

I was pleasantly surprised as did not know what to expect. The Hotel setting is beautiful - I loved the different levels and the log fires. The Reception & Restaurant staff are pleasant and friendly. Restaurant staff were hard-working and efficient. Room clean and well presented. The food was delicious and better than expected (see last years reviews on Trip Advisor which would put people off). I wanted to stay longer and we agreed we would go back for another visit.

Room a bit disappointing initially as small - but we grew to like it! Would have liked a view rather than a bush so didnt sit in the room much. I didnt like going outside to the room but got used to it as there is a covered walkway. Ate both nights at the hotel and I think we expected a change of menu on 2nd night; however we enjoyed all our food choices including breakfast.

The location is beautiful. Really peaceful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious as was the breakfast.

There was nothing that we didn't like.

Attentiveness of the staff, we needed a couple of batteries and asked to buy some at reception, the chap on the desk looked but could not find any so he nipped home and gave us two of his own batteries this is outstanding customer service. My husband got ill and we had to leave early the lady on the desk was empathic and helped me sort out paying without being charged the whole amount which I really appreciated. Fantastic bathroom really large and a bath which is sometimes lacking in hotels. Lovely touch to have a turndown service and also complimentary elderflower vodka.

The only thing I would mention is the bed in room 18, both my husband and I bashed our legs on the wooden bed end several times, lovely bed but not so practical in a smaller room where you need to manoeuvre around.

The hotel setting and layout is excellent.

The food in both the bar and restaurant was quite expensive. Although of very good quality the portions were very small . In particular in the bar where I had oxtail with mash. I recieved 2 tiny pieces of oxtail which would not have fed a small child. The point is if you are using cheap cuts of meat like oxtail and belly pork you can afford to be a bit more generous!!

I ordered fish pie for dinner in the bar. I was surprised to find there were no vegetables and was not advised that that would be the case. I ordered Eggs Royale for breakfast; both eggs were very cold as though they were just out of the fridge. That part of my beraqkfast was poor although the rest was good

They did not advise us that it was going to cost £20 per night for the dog -absolutely ridiculous -

Being in the New Forest was delightful and down by the waterside of the Beaulieu River a good location. Dogs in the bar a bonus but not in the lounge or any of the larger bedrooms. Adequately comfortable but if the hotel had been busy, not so sure. Staff very pleasant. Good breakfast.

Double bedrooms where dogs are permitted, when extra bed in place you could not move. These should not be let as triple rooms. Bar food adequate but nothing special.

Well appointed, with very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent food served by experienced staff

We were on a business trip to research one of the Bucklard's Hard built ships and very much enjoyed meeting up with the Estate Archivist. Our room was very comfortable and with a view from the window over the River.

Enjoyed all the facilities, pictures around the Hotel and all the Historic fixture and fittings.

Location & history to the building/area. Room was nice although not quite as luxurious as I was expecting.

It looked a bit tired in places & needed a refresh of paint. Our waitress also had to go & ask the bar man to keep the bar open, he was planning on closing it for the night, so we could get a drink after dinner & relax in the lounge.

People receiving mobile telephopne calls during evening meal - the staff should, at least, have a a private word with the couple concerned.

food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast - service was too (with exception of below comments) staff very friendly and helpful. loved the sitting room with the newspapers - nice touch wifi appreciated quiet, didn't hear other guests. bathroom spacious with room to place toiletries. will definitely come back

two of the staff continually said "no problem|" A small complaint I know but most irritating. e.g. may I have your name? Lattimer - no problem what is your car registration - xxxxx - no problem and so on in response to just about everything thank you would suffice.
