The 5-star Merchant Hotel is in the Cathedral Quarter of Belfast's city centre. It offers luxurious air-conditioned rooms, free Wi-Fi, a spa, and a rooftop gymnasium and hot tub. The Merchant is the winner of the Best UK Hotel 2011 award in the International Hotel Awards. All of the elegantly appointed rooms are decorated with original artwork. They each have black-out blinds, a flat-screen TV, and spacious en suite marble bathrooms. The Merchant is a Grade I Listed building dating back to 1860. Its Great Room Restaurant has a huge domed ceiling and offers a fine à la carte menu and traditional afternoon teas. There is a selection of bars, and an elegant on-site nightclub to enjoy, including the Veuve clicquot champagne lounge. Berts Jazz Bar serves food and has live music 7 nights a week. The Spa has 5 treatment rooms and a hydrotherapy area. There is also a sauna and a steam room located on the rooftop. Almost everything. See my dislikes. My comments are construtive be assured we really enjoyed our stay all staff were very good and accomidating and facilities were greatly anjoyed. Top stay 99 out of 100 nothing is perfect! My wife fully enjoyed her 50th Birthday. We hope to return. I stayed in room 105, Bathroom door did not close or lock. Also a smell of damp ( better extract or perhaps a air freshner to be installed. Also a black stain in the bath ( it was not dirty ) and stains on the floor by the waste bin. The wash hand basin also has a crack ( we,ve stayed in many hotels around the world ) this was one of the best and not dirty but not the best!!!!!!! I slept really well however the Spanish bar opposite with motor bikes at 3am could be noisey to others ( ear plugs and eye masks provided in the room!!!! do you suspect a problem? It would be nice if the windows couldbe opened during the day to let fresh air in. I pre-booked flowers for my wife. The card was to say Justine Happy Birthday and enjoy your stay love Paul xxx The flowers were there but the card was blank!!!!!!!!!! Our pick ups too and from the hotel were pre-booked and agreed at least a month in advance. This was a very special trip I was told the return transfer was not available due to the previous booking changing their arrangements, I do not eccept that someone changing their arrangements at short or little notice should effect mine( this was resolved but spoiled the return journey as travelling in the Roles Royce was to be a suprise and a major part of our overall experience the suprise was lost. Be assured the above are constructive comments. We hated going home only wishing we could stay longer. Be assured we will return to Belfast and would like to stay with you again.

Relaxed atmosphere in a city. It met all our expectation of a five star hotel and its reputation. To be given the option of a modern or traditional room. Only if available.

I was pleased with every aspect of our stay. It was nice to be upgraded and the little xtras of chocs etc. was much appreciated. There was nothing we found fault with. We would have liked to have seen the roof garden but probably the wrong time of year for this!

I found the staff to be professional courteous and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and a lovely experience. There was definitely attention to detail that other hotels do not cater for. The bed was comfortable also. When entering our room I found it to be very cold. I appreciate that it was one of the coldest days in the year but I did expect the room to be warmed for our arrival instead of having to put the heat on when we entered the room. We also found the room to be very clean and I love the period features but we felt the room to be drab and tired, especially with the dark brown paint and the broken picture frame. For us the room was a disappointment as I had heard so much about the rooms and their opulence. We were recommended to go to the cocktail bar as it was near to our room but it was full to capacity so we found ourselves sitting at an entrance which we also found very cold in the restaurant/foyer area.

Friendly staff on arrival. Excellent bar staff and service ( amazing cocktails Luxurious rooms Breakfast - as a coffee lover it was too strong and bitter. The vegetarian Irish breakfast was too bread based and muffins burnt. Toast should come with hot breakfast. The noise from a bar and their customers outside was unacceptable after 11pm and not at all wanted on a 'relaxing' break

The staff were amazing. Everyone treated us with very high standards. I have stayed in the Waldorf Astoria towers in NYC and and it does not even compare to the Dorchester. nothing

From the moment we arrived until we left we were looked after superbly. The staff are professional and well trained, nothing is a problem to them. The room was upgraded for us for our anniversary which was a really nice touch. We cant wait for another special occassion to spoil ourselves Absolutely nothing!

Everything was fantastic. We went for our wedding anniversary and it was absolute luxury. Would definitely love to go back again sometime. The staff, rooms, food etc. were all as you would expect from a 5* hotel.

Eveything! Eelegant and grand and quite simply, pure luxury! This was a surprise for my Husbands's 50th birthday. The room was amazing (especially the bath tub) & the hotel went the extra mile by leaving a lovely card, balloon and chocolates in the room as a token gesture to wish him a happy birthday - money can't buy that kind of service. Staff were excellent. Loved the whole experience. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come back. Nothing.

We stayed in an Art Deco room which was superb. The room and bathroom were spacious.There were certain 'touches' in the room which without doubt make this a five star hotel. I cannot speak highly enough of our stay at The Merchant. Fine dining in the Great Hall was excellent, as was the breakfast! The cocktails were perfect, and the service by all staff was friendly, welcoming and professional. You can always find faults with hotels if you look hard enough however we would return to Belfast just to spend a couple of days in this hotel. We felt we had been truely looked after and spoilt! frozen chips with the lobster - sorry!!
