The pictures and the website of the Methuen Arms do not do it justice. It is a quaint Inn with lots of interesting rooms, corners, nooks and crannies. The staff, rooms, dinner and breakfast were all wonderful and we will certainly visit again,
Wifi a little difficult
Friendly and accommodating staff. Very comfortable room.
Restaurant was a bit pricey!
We have stayed once before and decided to stay again to visit the thermal baths. Super comfy bed, amazing service, wonderful food, we will be back!
Location, comfortable bed and friendly staff.
Lot of stairs to carry your bag - thankfully a kind member of staff helped.
We liked the location however the food wasn't great and we asked for brandies and cheese to brought to our room which was not a problem according to the waiter who served us, However they never turned up and when we queried this with the girl on reception in the morning she brought out the brandies from the nite before and said that they didn't provide room service to which we replied the waiter said that it was not a problem she was very indifferent to this and when I asked that the items were not added to our bill she looked as if we were making an unreasonable request.
Comfortable spacious room with all the facilities you need
Rooms are of a very high standard and very comfortable Comfy bed Sizeable shower Tasty breakfast
Service in the restaurant at dinner was a bit patchy but the food is very good
I have stayed here for work and play. I love the quality of the rooms (size/great bathrooms/great toiletries). I particularly love the sticky pastries at breakfast.
Very little - the worst thing I can think of is that they don't give fresh milk for the tea tray and I despise that UHT abomination. But not everyone will be as picky as me!
comfy bed amazing baked goods
quite small room for the money
Nothing to dislike really, loved it all, staff extremely friendly, room was so nice, excellent bathroom and dinner was fantastic.
The only little complaint would be that the room was uncomfortably warm, due to overlooking the main road we had to keep window shut.
Comfortable rooms with great bathrooms and comfy beds. Breakfast tasty and friendly staff throughout. Nice place to stay
No sky sports in bar area
Lovely bedroom Great shower
Dining room too cramped Burnt toast for breakfast
Lovely hotel with fabulous rooms and a great breakfast. The staff were very helpful
The gents urinals were leaking and water from the toilet was being walked into the main hallway. Everything had been cleared up by the morning but it didn't look great on the night
Cleanliness (immaculate) Friendliness Standard and variety of food Bathrobes and toiletries provided Proper coffee in rooms Everything.....
Only booked for one night....
We found The Methuen Arms welcoming from the onset, for both dinner and breakfast the staff were very attentive. Our room was clean with enough room, beautiful bed linen and very tastefully decorated. Well appointed bathroom with a super shower.
Lovely rooms Friendly staff Good food (generally) Excellent service
Cheese course at our dinner was a bit poor. Only two choices which were very similar. Was in room 7 which had a connecting door with room next door. Noise travelled quite a lot.
The room Toiletries
Poor presentation of food. Portion sizes (eg. Cod Risotto). Warm water jug at dinner. Warm bowls at breakfast. Attention to detail was poor!
Have stayed here lots of times now. Highlights are the rooms, the bar, the food and the ambience. Not much to fault to be honest! All the bathrooms are top class. If you want an object lesson in how to renovate a hotel and provide first rate rooms then come here. They really couldn't be better (and I think I have tried them all now).
It's really hard to find anything. The only thing I have noticed over many stays is the inconsistency of staff. Their quality / friendliness can be a bit variable and it would be good for the hotel to find and retain some key players perhaps? The owner (Mrs Still?) is top rate though, and I am confident she is on the case and will sort it out!
Nice restaurant - a bit pricey though. Fridge in the room for milk, wine etc. Tea and coffee making facilities in rooms
The noise from the kitchen fans!!!
The food is very nice, we had dinner in the restaurant which I would recommend, it was very good quality and nice bread mate in house. Rooms nice and spacious with lovely bathrooms and nice products to use.
The food was extremely good, The bed was comfortable and the shower was brilliant!
Traffic noise which was unavoidable due to position of hotel, but the double glazing helped a lot.
Bedroom was very comfortable although at the front of the hotel which attracted some traffic noise. The food in the evening was very good in selection and value together with the variety offered with the inclusive breakfast.
The rear garden although very nice to sit in during the evening was "tatty" and needed upkeep. The overall decoration and ambiance was good but in some places in need of repair and redecoration.
Rooms were lovely and comfortable and very clean. Staff very pleasant.
The cost of the drinks in the bar.
Very friendly & helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
