This majestic Victorian manor sits on Ryde seafront overlooking the marina. It features bright, elegant rooms with free Wi-Fi and hearty, traditional cuisine in its restaurant.

On a leafy tree-lined avenue, this elegant Victorian hotel features, good food, south facing gardens and a sun terrace. Somerton Lodge is a 5-minute walk from the centre of Shanklin.

The location of the guesthouse is very good, the view from the window and garden is very beautiful as well. Hosts are trying their best to please the guests.
As this is small guesthouse is lacks flexibility. Breakfast stops early, room service is fixed from 10:00-12:00. Wi-fi is poor. I would recommend this hotel to mature people not youngsters for sure.
We stayed for the week to celebrate our 50th wedding Anniversary as we had our Honeymoon on the Isle of Wight, and we were not disappointed. We visited lots of places on the island,as we have over the years.
Due to mobility difficulties we need to use the car and are unable to walk far or use public transport therefore are reliant on the car. Unfortunately the roads were often in a poor state of repair which made travel very uncomfortable.
Very pleasant welcome. Good breakfast and good value for monet
Room was a bit small and couldn't get wifi in the room. Also TV in the room and the guests lounge are in completely the wrong place and not moveable.
Very friendly and hospitable hosts... Nice view and very relaxing ambiance :) good value for money
the wifi didnt work while we were there.
It was nice to have the garden so as the weather was so nice you didn't have to go and sit in your room.
Being told we were putting them out when we asked for breakfast a bit earlier, 8am instead of the 8.30 to 9 15 am on the day we were leaving to catch the ferry.
The Miclaran is in walking distance of both Shanklin and Sandown. We were well looked after, provided with bottles of chilled water for days out and even treated to a bottle of wine in our room for booking a 7 day stay. The rooms were clean and bright with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. Breakfast was also good.
To be nit-picky, we found that doors in our room tended to rattle in the wind when we left the windows open and the ceiling was rather low above the toilet. The WIFI was a little patchy in our room but still better than many hotels I've stayed in. None of these were of any real issue, nor did they have any real impact on our stay.
Within easy walking distance from both Sandown and Shanklin along the Esplanade.
The owners r very friendly and very helpful we had a very enjoyable stay and would tell friends and family what a great place it is
The wifi did not work very well
This was my 2nd visit to the Miclaran since Alan and Sue took over. I didn't think they could improve on my first visit but they did.
The location is excellent although it's a trek along the coastal path to Sandown or, less so, Shanklin. The breakfast offer was very good!
The en-suite in our room (6) was pokey and the shower too small and outdated. The towels were too small (not bath sized!). It was a warm and sunny period and the room was stifling and impossible to get cool!
The view from our bedroom window was magnificent. Our hosts were attentive and friendly. The hotel is on a cliff top midway between Sandown & Shanklin. It's a 10 minute walk down steps to the promenade and a 15-20 minute walk in either direction to Sandown or Shanklin. Limited eating out opportunities close by so we made a 20-minute walk each way to either town's main tourist area. Good for walking up an appetite!
Everything met or exceeded our expectations so nothing to dislike.
i liked everything, the staff were very helpful, the food the comfort and the location, i would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.
very friendly &comfort
thought breakfast slot a bit tight8.30 till 9.00 should be bit longer for holidaymakers
Sue and Alan are excellent hosts. Nothing was to much trouble. The views from the rooms and garden are fantastic, you couldn't get better. The breakfast was very good and the whole house was very clean.
This Guest House is ideally located for easy walking access along the coastal path to Shanklin and Sandown. Rooms offer lovely views over the channel and are very clean and comfortable. There is a garden to the rear of the property with access to the coastal path. The breakfast is Devine and Sue and Alan are very welcoming and helpful during your stay. This was our 2nd visit in 2 years and we will be back next year. Highly recommended.
Nothing to dislike
Very friendly welcome. Good breakfast and all very fresh and clean. Will recommend to others
Stunning views from room. Location great for walk to Shanklin or Sandown along coastal path even for more mature! Great breakfast.
Very low water pressure so shower was a dribble. Could hear everything from room next door, not just talking, but also when they visited the toilet and shower!
the atitude of the staffs
My wife and I took my elderly (92 yr old) mother for three nights and we were very pleased with the time we spent at the Miclaran. Both Sue and Alan could not have done more to ensure we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Everywhere was very clean, beds were comfortable and breakfast was very good indeed,
The only slight issue was that the plumbing was a little noisy - probably because my mother's bathroom was next door to our bed head and she needs to get up during the night to go to the loo!
The friendly, welcoming and helpful hosts. The level and quality of the accommodation was everything we hoped for. Plus a tasty breakfast got each day off to the perfect start.
Limiting our stay to just three nights.
Area quiet, clean room, near seacliff, near shanklin, buses available for my requirements, breakfast good, no noise, garden.
Sue & Alan were excellent hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. The sea view from our room was amazing. A good selection at breakfast, beautifully cooked. Room had all the facilities we needed.
We walked into Shanklin most days which was fine for us, but you would need a car if you find walking difficult.
Lovely view from bedroom window. Bed linen was crisp and felt great. Beds were comfortable. wine glasses provided without asking which was a lovely touch. cooked breakfast was nice.
Being asked for remaining money as soon as we arrived. We had paid the deposit a long time in advance and done the booking through booking.com. Had never had to pay a deposit before and was surprised that it was almost the first thing we were told about. Stairs were really steep, they did put a hand rail in on one floor but the next flight was really hard. One of us was waiting for a knee replacement and another had just had a new hip. The twin room was quite cramped.
Lovely comfortable room with a lovely sea view which is always nice. All staff friendly and go out of their way to ensure you are having a lovely time, nothing too much trouble.
Would of been nice to have access to back garden from cliff walk.
