Situated in a small town, this inn provides real ale, good home-cooked food from local suppliers, a fine wine menu and live entertainment on a regular basis.
Score from 208 reviews Good
Built in 1450 the Bull Hotel is a timber house in the charming East Anglian village of Long Melford. The former Coaching Inn offers en suite rooms and fine food.

In a quiet village setting, just off the A12, outside the ancient Roman town of Colchester, this modern hotel offers great value with free parking, air-conditioned rooms and an indoor pool.

Staff friendly, room well appointed, great bar area, good food, wonderful breakfast!
Pleasant area and staff
The level of noise was very frustrating throughout the early hours of the morning.
Situated in a good position and not far from the town. Room very clean and well set out. Nice view over the fields and lake.
Reception poor could have done with two people with the amount of people checking in. Bar could stay open after 1am with credit card payment. Staff not very willing.
Great location in the country Attractive building Good facilities Free WiFi
My floor, and room, was a little on the warm side, but this didn't disturb my stay/sleep.
Staff very helpfull, dinner lovely, room outlook good.We were very happy when we were moved to a a room with I easy access because of my difficulty with stairs Geoff Melbourne
Hadn't been for many years but still a very good hotel. Food is excellent and the restaurant setting truly lovely.
Heating in our room not working and it had turned colder. Staff unable to do anything although they were as helpful as they could be. Bar prices extremely expensive
The hotel was lovely and the food was amazing. Staff were courteous and helpful. A lovely weekend was had.
The bedroom at night was too hot and we couldn't turn the heating down. We found we had to have the bathroom door open to cool it down a little.
As this was a business trip good communications were necessary and while we were in the hotel there was no signal to our phones and the Wi-Fi kept losing the signal as well.
Food, service and rooms
Lovely hotel, great staff, food was amazing, lovely location. All in all a great weekend!
The photo's displayed on booking.com does not do the hotel justice!
We liked being able to walk either across the meadows or into the town. We liked the comfortable bed. The room was regularly cleaned. The dining room and bar were both relaxing environments.
The breakfast was fine but not out of the ordinary. There was no light for make-up or shaving in the bathroom.
CLOSE TO LOCAL TOURIST PLACES---YOU NEED A CAR
There was a wedding party in with a loud disco which kept us awake would have been good to have been informed
bed, no bath as promised on upgrade
The location, helpful staff, good choice and quality of food.
No lift so stairs could be a bit of a problem for some.
comfy mattress and location of hotel
The noisy combi boiler next to our room clicking randomly when some residents decide to use hot water
Great and big room, good food, close to the station, comfy bed and clean and quiet.
Only disappointment was the shower in the morning which was quite weak.
Warm welcome - we were too early to check in but the receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. Barman was also very welcoming when we popped in for a nightcap.
The pillows and duvet were really flat! One of the joys of staying in a hotel is the soft down bedding. You don't get that here! We didn't have the 'do not disturb' sign up but we had a knock on our door from housekeeping at 9am on the Sat. Bit early!
Location was stunning, and close to the centre, ideal for shopping, exploring, walkers etc.
The showers when turned on (not neccessarily in your room but others) made a tremendous amount of noise, which did hamper your relaxation/sleep
Missing out on deals as we booked before they came out !! Found the al la carte menu expensive !!
Location was excellent with plenty of communal areas. We ate in the bar and the food was of a consistent high standard and value for money. We had a superior ground floor room with riverside views which were excellent. Reception was more than helpful and polite.
Surrounding area was lovely, all amenities close by. The food was lovely and so were the restaurant staff. Bathroom and shower were lovely.
The bed was so uncomfortable we wanted to come away at 6 a.m. The portions of the main meal were small. We were in the cottages and the area around them needed a general tidy up.
Despite being asked if we were leaving room so it could be cleaned we returned at night after a wedding wanting to shower but room had not been cleaned and all towels were still wet. The buffet breakfast was very poor!
The views and spaciousness of the room. The tasteful modernisation of the old building and decoration.
Cheapness of the complimentary tea & coffee, only 2 coffee per person available & cheap Nescafé. No bottles of water available. This is clearly the difference between staying in an independent hotel and a chain hotel, even where the chain is setting itself up to be a quality location ! Shame ! Didn't bother to try the 'buffet' breakfast, I prefer to have breakfast cooked to order when staying for leisure purposes. It would have been great to have that option. Most independent hotels offer that option.
Lovely view from my room and from the bar over River Stour water meadows. Smart simple decor, modern but in keeping with it being a historic building
Restaurant was fully booked. Suppose I should have booked a table on arrival!
