Warm welcome - we were too early to check in but the receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. Barman was also very welcoming when we popped in for a nightcap.
The pillows and duvet were really flat! One of the joys of staying in a hotel is the soft down bedding. You don't get that here! We didn't have the 'do not disturb' sign up but we had a knock on our door from housekeeping at 9am on the Sat. Bit early!
Location was stunning, and close to the centre, ideal for shopping, exploring, walkers etc.
The showers when turned on (not neccessarily in your room but others) made a tremendous amount of noise, which did hamper your relaxation/sleep
Location was excellent with plenty of communal areas. We ate in the bar and the food was of a consistent high standard and value for money. We had a superior ground floor room with riverside views which were excellent. Reception was more than helpful and polite.
Surrounding area was lovely, all amenities close by. The food was lovely and so were the restaurant staff. Bathroom and shower were lovely.
The bed was so uncomfortable we wanted to come away at 6 a.m. The portions of the main meal were small. We were in the cottages and the area around them needed a general tidy up.
Despite being asked if we were leaving room so it could be cleaned we returned at night after a wedding wanting to shower but room had not been cleaned and all towels were still wet. The buffet breakfast was very poor!
The views and spaciousness of the room. The tasteful modernisation of the old building and decoration.
Cheapness of the complimentary tea & coffee, only 2 coffee per person available & cheap Nescafé. No bottles of water available. This is clearly the difference between staying in an independent hotel and a chain hotel, even where the chain is setting itself up to be a quality location ! Shame ! Didn't bother to try the 'buffet' breakfast, I prefer to have breakfast cooked to order when staying for leisure purposes. It would have been great to have that option. Most independent hotels offer that option.
Bed was comfortable
Room to dark and not in the main building , shower poor quicker to have a bath breakfast cold
Lovely area, hotel in a good location.
Hardest bed I've ever "slept" in. Pillows were not fit for purpose as they were almost flat. No mirror in bathroom so I didn't attempt to have a shave. Water pressure in shower was very low.
Food was excellent. All staff very friendly and always helpful and nothing too much trouble. Room clean and tidy. Great location.
Creaking stairs and floorboards above room 12. No milk in room on two days. Would like a better range of real ales. Minor quibbles when weighed against the good points.
We liked the fact that we could visit local attractions eg Lavenham which was quite close. Sudbury was also a lovely town to visit. The room was clean and had all amenities. We also found it to be quite quiet.
It was very hot and we could have done with a room fan. I suppose I could have asked though!
I enjoyed the location of the hotel, friendly staff and great service.
Our room was very hot and the only way to have fresh air was to open the sash window. The room was overseeing a travelled path and the window did not have a lot of covering besides the net and a roman blind. Maybe air conditioning in the room would work better. However this was a minor set back and it did not stop us from enjoying our stay.
Lovely location. Nice room.
Lack of net curtain on window - allowed people on river path to look in. Lack of light - only 2 bulkhead lights apart from bed lights. One of them not working, so very dark when you closed the curtains to prevent being seen! Coffee expensive and weak. Suspect I was given a large coffee without being asked. Winter duvet in August. No hot breakfast options offered apart from fry-up.
ROOM AND LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT
windows need clean ,takes a lot away from hotel
Views from the roof top bar. Bar food was good and restaurant looked nice. Reception and bar staff were excellent.
Noise outside of reception late at night. Decor in hallways and stairways looked tired. No lift to upper floors
Clean, quite, good food, Great staff, nice relaxed atmosphear. Comfy room. Good location.
Needs to have a cocktail menu.
All good. Excellent Superior double room. Restaurant good for dinner and breakfast.
No light over the mirror in the bathroom for shaving etc. Also no towel rail in bathroom.
The staff were so helpful. The room was clean and even though we only had a standard room it was very spacious. The location was lovely overlooking the water meadows.
Little disappointed with the breakfast being a buffet and not a huge choice but perfectly adequate.
Shower to slow not enough pressure view small room
location lovely view of meadows from bedroom
breakfast not included in price service at bar very slow
The hotel room was very comfortable.
The restaurant food and service needs improvement. Waiting 20 minutes for our ordered wine. No offer of water while we were waiting. We had to ask for our bottle of wine. When it was offered it was warm white wine. The starters were average however, the main course of fish and chips was not to a edible standard. Fish over cooked and the skin was left on. Chips soggy and peas without any taste. While they did not charge us of the main a hotel of this standard should be able to produce a decent plate of fish and chips.
The peaceful location above all, especially in those rooms alongside the river.
In the 'superior' twin room it would have nice to have an armchair - there is space for one.
A great relaxing stay. Amazing views over the countryside around.
Very modern refurbished room overlooking river
Room could do with a fan - very hot
Pleasant location, convenient car parking, wifi, bed is okay and rooms are clean.
No air conditioning, not enough fans for the rooms available, room size is tiny - what you would expect in London for the price, location although nice by old mill leat means lots of insects and mosquitos with window open, sash window will not stay open, the shower is more of a trickle, and the bathroom is so small it's hard to get into the shower without tripping over the toilet.
