Diane,
Gateshead
Located in the picturesque hamlet of Greta Bridge, this traditional and peaceful 4-star AA hotel is in a beautiful location close to the Tees Valley and Yorkshire Dales. The Morritt Hotel is Teesdale’s hidden treasure, just of the A66, some 9 miles west of Scotch Corner. This 17th century former coaching inn offers a warm welcome to everyone, whether for business or pleasure. In the winter you will be greeted by our roaring log fire in the lounge, while in summer you can relax with a drink in our well-tended gardens. No two bedrooms are alike, all different in size, shape, style and furnishings. Each room is individually styled, many with original features of this Grade II listed (historically designated) building. Hotel Rooms: 27

As a wedding venue we could not fault the Morritt; it was a wonderful day from start to finish. Everything was well organised and the wedding breakfast was delicious; probably the best food we've ever had at a wedding! Perfect day. My husband and I stayed at the Morritt on 14/01/2012 , as we were attending our friend's wedding there. We paid more for a 'Gold' room (Superior Double), as we like comfort and luxury if we stay in a hotel. Unfortinately we were very disappointed! We stayed in the 'Peg' room, which could only be described as 'tacky'. However this was not the main problem. Our room was situated at the end of the right hand side of the hotel and was bitterly cold! We noticed the cold as soon as we went through the doors to the small corridor that led to our room; it was noticably colder than the passageway we had just left. When we entered the room it was icy cold and the radiator was just warm. We rang reception straight away, as we had to get ready for the wedding and were reluctant to even remove our coats. We were told that the heating would come back on soon as it was on a timer, but the receptionist would see what she could do. The heating did come on and the radiator was hot, but had no effect on the coldness of the room. The bathroom was even worse! There was only a heated towel rail to heat the bathroom and this was switched off and we could not switch it on. We rang reception again and were told that someone would deal with this while we were at the wedding. When we returned to our room later that evening, it was on but had no effect whatsoever at heating tthe towels, let alone the bathroom. We spent the night freezing and could not ask to be moved because we were at a wedding and did not have time to move our belongings, as we understood it; the hotel was full anyway and there did not seem any point as we were only staying one night. There was also a lack of toiletries. We expected there to be be shampoo etc and tissues, as we have had these items in rooms that we have paid less for; therefore we did not take them with us.

Our room was wonderful, as we had one of the design rooms, the food was good, and the staff very helpful. Our friends booked also a design room which was smaller and less grand which was a little disappointing.

Setting service at dinner There was only one set of towels ... the toilet did not flush well.... There was no room for a suitcase even though a platform for this was provided in a collapseable for..... I have a personal abhorrence of covering the bed with cushions that have no purpose whatever in the bedroom....... The bed was short.....breakfast was poorly delivered. The table was so small we had to move to a two placement table as there were two of us..... The coffee was provided as a pot for one and when asked for more a two pot pot was provided..... A two pot pot should be provided first off not to wait to be asked.

the service and atmosphere would have preferred to stay in the main hotel as the road surface walk to the cottage rooms is quite rough and do not regard it as a "complimentary upgrade" to be moved out of the main hotel

Beautiful stone building covered with ivy off the main road and near many interesting sights in Teesdale. Furnishings and food were both delightful and the wi-fi connection vital. Staff were all very cheerful and helpful. I could get no Orange cellphone talk or data signals until I was outside in the car park.

It was very comfortable and we were well looked after and the food was excellent. The room was a little small but it was only for one night and a late booking so it was fine. Would want a bigger room if staying longer. Would be happy to return for a longer stay.

The ability to relax in lovely surroundings. Also during our stay we met up with the wedding planner, who is lovely and very attentative to your requirements, little did I realise that this person is the owner !! How nice to see someone so senior, yet so down to earth to ensure everything within her grasp is providered and delivered professionally -Such a refreshing chance to see especially as we are now book to get married there early next year !!

I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff and their professional, helpful approach to myself and other guests. The room was clean, stylish and comfortable, if a bit chilly ( the outside temperature dropped quite quickly on what was supposed to be a summer evening!) The food was delicious and again the dining room staff were very pleasant, I was a female guest on my own and was made to feel very comfortable and welcomed. The breakfast was very good, however, the menu did state that fresh fruit was available, but there was none on the buffet table.

The outlook from the property, the ease of access from the motorway. The attitude of the staff, who without exception were friendly and helpful at all times. The room (no. 1) was lovely. Unfortunately, the weather on two days of our stay was fairly foul, and we were not able to enjoy the garden. The standard of the food was very good and well-presented, whilst the wine list was exemplary. The dining-room was well laid out and the table linen spotless. It was a pity that on two evenings my wife and I were the only diners, so the atmosphere was rather lacking. Our request for an anti-slip mat for the shower was supplied straight away. This is a vital accessory, given that the floor of the bath was slippery. The over-bath shower really needs to have grab-handles fitted. Despite the excellence of the food, it was fortunate that we only stayed for four nights, as the menu did not change and this was a real drawback. We would have had to go again through the choices that we had already had. We found this lack of variation quite boring. The other dislike was the piped music. Again, the same tape at every meal. Whilst not particularly intrusive, not everybody appreciates pop music or background music of any kind. It is unnecessary.
