Location, and the 4 poster room fitted in with the atmosphere of the hotel. Spectacular views and walks straight from the doorstep, dog owners are well accomodated. Relaxing break. The only downside ....the room was so lovely ....I wish I had spent more time in it :(

Relaxed ambience Dog friendly Live music Nice clean comfortable room Fantastic location Good pub style food Very friendly and helpful staff - but a little disorganised. Some food orders didn't get cooked. Our packed lunches weren't made. Restaurant service a little slow.

The staff are welcoming and extremely helpful. The Mortal Man is a traditional old man set in beautiful countryside with some lovely walks near by. The food is very good and the breakfast menu is excellent, made more lovely by sitting in the dining room overlooking the scenery. The beds are comfortable, water piping hot for a nice soak in a bath along with lovely "smellies" for relaxation! I respect the building is an old and traditional however the overall accommodation is in desperate need of updating and some TLC. Apart from that a comfortable stay.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent. The scones and cake were lovely. The evening meals were very good. There were lovely views from the hotel and it was very peaceful. Our toilet didn't flush very well.

We stayed in the four poster room for the second time, its so lovely with fantastic views. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming. There's such a good choice for breakfast and this time we had dinner, wow gorgeous food Can't wait to go back again :-) There isn't any internet in the rooms and not to good of a mobile signal But really it isn't the hotels fault, if I'm honest it was great being able to tell people, sorry we didn't keep in touch- no signal!!!!!

A lovely warm and comfortable place to stay. The staff were particularly pleasant and helpful. We loved the location. Picture book pretty and easy access to the fells. We considered our stay was very good value for money but the food, perhaps could have been better.

Loved it. Just what a proper relaxed country inn should be. Lots of open log fires and newspapers to read. Good choice at breakfast scrambled eggs and smoked salmon perfect. Could have chosen full English, French toast and maple syrup, porridge made with cream, all butter croissants. We ate in the pub ( good idea to book) fish and chips with home made ketchup. Staff friendly, laid back and accommodating. Dogs welcome everywhere except the restaurant but you can take them in the bar and eat there. Will definitely go again, a beautiful part of the world.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar food (on the regular menu) was good. The bar was warm and friendly, with a good range of beers. The house wine was well chosen. Terribly tough sausages at breakfast! Only one chair in our bedroom for two of us. The bed was a bit small. (In room 9). The wardrobe was in danger of tipping over when both doors were open.

Location and views of the area are exceptional. Plenty of places to explore. Taditional pub with local ales and log fires. Food bland. Lacked imagination and provided lots of bread with certain courses but little main food content. eg: starter 4 prawns in garlic butter with huge chunks of plain white bread - nothing else! Main course - huge pile of very plain un-seasoned mashed potato with cooked slices of ham, very small amount of white sauce - no taste - no vegetables! A very poor meal. The quality and presentation of the food spoilt what what should have been a pleasant stay in such a well known inn.
