The New Angel

The New Angel is in Dartmouth's pretty town centre. It offers free parking for guests, stylish rooms, flat-screen TVs, DVD players and breakfast in the Michelin-starred restaurant.

The New Angel has individually decorated en suite rooms, all with minibars, CD players and luxury toiletries. The hospitality trays include tea/coffee and extras such as homemade shortbread.

The New Angel restaurant is on the waterfront, just a short walk from the rooms. The restaurant is managed by celebrity chef John Burton Race. It has held a Michelin star since 2005. The restaurant also has 3 AA Rosettes and was the winner of the AA Restaurant of the Year in 2006.

There is a cocktail lounge with views of the river and free parking is available nearby, by prior request.

Food & beverage

The New Angel is a Michelin-starred restaurant managed by celebrity-chef John Burton Race. The ground floor is lively, with an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs at work. Burton Race and his head chef, Robert Spencer, show polished skill and self-assurance, with great respect paid to the simple treatment of food. The kitchen is a shop window for all local, regional and seasonal produce. First floor dining is more intimate with a calm and sophisticated feel.

On the 2nd floor is an impressive cocktail lounge where you can sit back, and relax with a drink and canapés whilst watching the boats go by on the river.

The New Angel rooms are the height of luxury: 6 individually decorated rooms all equipped with a plasma TV, DVD player, soft towels and a private mini bar. Each room is individual in character but has a charm of its own to help you relax in luxurious surroundings. With a private mini bar in your room and a few nibbles, you can relax to music from the CD player.

Indulgent toiletries in each room add a special touch to your stay, and on lazy afternoons, why not put your feet up with a cup of tea and enjoy a piece of homemade shortbread.

Area information

Dartmouth is known as the jewel in the South Hams. With coast, countryside and river on the doorstep you can explore by road, river or steam train. The ancient town has an abundance of interesting buildings dating as far back as 1380. There is a selection of shops, boutiques and delightful restaurants, the top restaurant being the New Angel where John Burton-Race maintains his Michelin Star.

The restaurant sits on the embankment, which is idyllic for a stroll by the river where the views of Kingswear with its coloured houses create a natural backdrop. The town’s main event is the Regatta, which takes place in August. It is supported by several festivals throughout the year including the music festival in May, the food festival in October and, more recently, the comedy festival in February.

By Car
From Totnes or from either ferry:
- Follow the one way system so the river is on your left.
- The New Angel is located on your right opposite the passenger ferry terminal.

Important information

You will need to check-in at the restaurant to collect your keycard and parking permit. From here someone will take you to your room. If you would like to check-in later you will need to let staff know this at the time of booking. If you would like to check-out before 09:00 you will need to settle your bill the night before departure.
