Staff were available most of the time at the reception, and were very prompt about changing my room to a quieter one when requested. Staff always polite.
I was placed in a very noisy room over looking the main road and kept awake all night by drunkards shouting in the street outside. I was not aware that the price of the room did not include breakfast until I arrived - it was on quite small print on my receipt after I booked the room. I also worried that anyone could go up the stairs to the bedrooms from outside because the main door was not locked, and the reception desk, inside the double doors - well past the staircase, was not 'manned' all the time.
Staff Food Beer Location
No breakfast this year but you did last, we will use this place again but sort out the breakfast
the hotel location
Very central location. Although there was no hotel parking, there is a car park directly behind the hotel and with a voucher issued by the hotel, parking is only £3 for 24 hours. The receptionist was helpful and telephoned the Waterworks Museum to check opening times on Sunday for us.
We asked for a nice room and the double bed was twin beds pulled together. My husband's first weekend off and it was an uncomfortable bed and I had rolled onto the join and woke up with a sore back. The hotel offered to change rooms but it was late in the evening and the alternative room had no ensuite so we stayed where we were. It was Valentines weekend and we hadn't booked dinner in the restaurant in advance and when we went down to ask early afternoon, we were told they were full. I rang down for a sandwich but was told there was no food. There was a function downstairs and we could hear it all until quite late. The entertainment then loaded their equipment outside afterwards right underneath our window and another disturbance. It was a good price for the room and the location was central. Unfortunately we didn't get a good nights sleep.
Brilliant location. Bar was very nice with candles on each table - nice touch
We had a front bedroom which had a lovely view - but being a Friday night was noisy so next time would ask for a room at the back.
New County Hotel gives you great access to the town centre and easy walking distance to the beautiful developed docks. The rooms are clean and comfortable with ever smiling and helpful staff. Easy Parking to the rear of the hotel and special rates for the hotel guests. Highly recommended and will use again for sure.
A great place for a weekend good shops good food and lovely people
The location, five minutes walk from the Cathedral was great, as was the welcoming bar downstairs. My room was spacious and great for catching up on work at the end of the day - the free Wifi is a real selling point. Staff were friendly and helpful but not too in your face.
It wasn't a bad experience but breakfast would've been nice! Not many places open early nearby so it would've been really helpful. Also, a comfy chair in the room, or a powerpoint by the bed - not everyone wants to sit at a desk to use their lap top after a busy day.
my wife and I had a fantastic stay over Christmas we could not fault anything . the staff and management could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. the Christmas lunch was superb. hope to return this Christmas, looking forward to it.thankyou all at the new county.
The staff were friendly The hotel looked nice We went to a party there and the party room was nice
Having to get a parking voucher before parking was a pain Had a lemonade at the bar which was lacking syrup- this was changed in request no problem however then we had a Guinness which was off (fizzy) and then another the same. The lack of breakfast was disappointing but there are a few options a short walk away The shower came on by itself in the night The chairs and tables outside are left out so when the clubs kick out people sit on them and it's noisy if you're at the front of the hotel There was dirt and pubic hair in the tea/sugar bowl in the room
Location of the hotel is fantastic
Room in desperate need of repair, light fittings hanging off wall
Room very very small it was a small single room with a double bed in it, no room to move.shower/toilet room too small, had to stand outside shower cubical to wash.
Radiator wasnt working
Friendly staff,location very good,and clean.
Ther was no heating on in the room, and as it was20th December it was cold.i asked at reception ,and was told she would turn it on. Nothing happened . Nothing again next morning. Also they now do not do breakfast,so had to find something to eat up the street, and as it was a Sunday nothing opened until 10 am. We were not told this when we booked the room.
cleanliness of room was not good , stained carpet, dust on headboard of bed and cobwebs on walls and ceiling.
Staff were really helpful and attentive.
Location excellent, receptionist very polite and helpfull, shower nice and hot,bed ok
The smell of disinfectant as soon as I opened the room door was a tad overpowering, I opened the curtains only to see a brick wall on the other side, had we known we wouldn't have booked, I suppose if you don't ask you won't know, obviously a very good hotel in the past but needs dragging into the future.
So close to all the shops in town and walking distance at the docks a must. FAB pub restaurant across the road a must if you visit. The room was cosy maybe a little noisy in the summer as room straight onto the street.
No hair dryer a must for us women
Area was perfect
Was unable to find my booking on their computer, also i was put in a box room and for the price i paid and the fact it was for my boyfriends birthday means i was unhappy. Also the shower kept filling up with water and had to waite ages for it to go down other wise would of flooded
The hotel is well situated being in the city centre. the bar was clean & staff friendly although we ate elsewhere. We appreciated the discounted car-park, although this was full when we 1st tried to park at 11.30am (the city was very busy owing to university graduation and a Victorian market) The room was a good size and clean, with bathroom containing all you needed! Although other reviews mention noise, we didn't have any problems - the room was at the back so this probably helped. (room 25) We were happy with room temperature - the radiator was hot but not uncomfortably so. (didn't try opening window) Towels fine and room also had a hairdryer. We only had to climb to 1st floor so lack of lift wasn't a problem - could be if less able and on the 3rd floor. Overall, we were happy with our stay and would revisit if in Gloucester again.
No breakfast although the city has plenty of places to eat so didn't spoil our visit
Good price, central location
No breakfast on the premises
freezing cold, radiator did not work. No hairdryer and no shampoo only conditioner. No bedside cabinet.
The location was good if you wanted walking access to Gloucester town center, the Cathedral and the docks.
The room was more basic than I expected (given on-line photos). It was on the second floor and there wasn't an elevator; it was at the far back of the hotel, around corners, down corridors, up and down numerous sets of steps. I don't mind carrying my suitcase, but it really was a hike! Also, the loading dock seemed to be under the window and in the middle of the night they were moving furniture from a recent event - very noisy.
that the receptionist upgraded me to a double room for less money- Thank you
not being able to have breakfast as an option.
Too hot in rooms, No breakfast option
