Room was clean. Booked ensuite family room for three adults, room small, dark and hot window opening restricted by a chain. Breakfast basic, cooked by chef in his bare feet. In my opinion not good value for money hot, window opening restricted by a chain.

I liked it all. The whole place was well decorated. Our room smelt beautiful - fresh and clean. Nigel and Lyn (proprietors) were so friendly and accommodating. The building was well placed for the town and sea. Possibly the best B & B stay we've had. Already booked a return visit.

The Guest house is all about the owners, this is what makes it what it is, a warm and friendly cosy b&b, we were really made to feel welcome and they were a great team, most informative about the local surroundings and were very chatty. The rooms were small but adequate and always clean. Great breakfasts Not so much complaints as observations, the parking space for 3 at the rear is really only for 2 vehicles, ( even though mine was a van ) still only 2, and the parking at the front and in the immediate area is very scarce, we parked up and never moved for 3 days for fear that we wouldnt be able tp get another parking space within a reasonable walk. Apart from that the supply of clean towels could have been more frequent. I appreciate the need to save water but same towels for 4 nights just isnt enough. Torquay is very hilly and this place is always at the top of a hill. The big hotel over the road is a noise nusiance as visiting coach drivers run their engines every morning at 7am and just leave them running for ages, request a room at the rear.

We had a lovely 5 night stay at the newburgh. Nigel and Lynn at the front door as we arrived as we had missed the hotel and drove by, (our fault). They were really friendly and attentive, though not intrusive and nothing was too much trouble, even to the point of putting out extra marmalade for us when they realised we were not eating the jam. They had great knowledge of the area and places to go which came in handy. Superb cooked breakfast but choice of scrambled egg with bacon, egg on toast, beans on toast etc if you wanted something different. Room not huge but plenty big enough though not much of a view which didn't bother us as we only booked last minute anyway but ask if thats what you want, I'm positive Lynn and Nigel will oblige if they can. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. Comfy bed and great shower. Spotlessly clean all through towels changed regularly. Good location, only 5 to 10 min leisurely stroll down to the seafront. Close enough to reach amenities but not noisy at all. Very good value for money. Would book definately again.

Small friendly guest house, nothing was too much trouble - a warm welcome on arrival. Only a short stroll to the sea front & shops. Parking was available at the rear of the guest house.

“It must be 10 years since I last stayed at the Palace. I was very pleased to see that it was just as nice as I remembered it. The decor of all the public rooms has been kept looking fresh and modern, but the character of the hotel has been maintained. The reception area is warm, welcoming and luxurious. The staff are friendly and efficient. I saw 'high tea' being served to the youngest guests and they were being given as much care and attention as any adult in the restaurant. Breakfast was excellent, both in quality of food and service. Our room was good, with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was a little tired but it was spotlessly clean with loads of hot water. The Palace is a very calm, relaxing place to stay. The gardens are beautiful and very well kept. Too much 'modernisation' would spoil this hotel and I think they have got the balance right.” Sue, Solihull |
