The Old Barn Inn  

Very nice rural hotel in the nature with stylish, modern and comfortable rooms with high quality amenities and friendly and professional staff! Highly recommended.

Our room was good: comfortable bed and very modern and clean. Re Q5 below, we were passing through for a business meeting in Cardiff the next morning so can only comment on this accommodation and not on Newport generally!

We felt the bar/restaurant was disappointing. My (over-priced) meal of fish 'n' chips included enough chips to feed a whole family, and were really undercooked and unpleasant. Most plates seemed to be piled high which is perhaps what people want but the quality is not so good.

Room was one of the best I've stayed in. The staff were excellent, very friendly.

There was no where to sit in the bar and have a drink early evening as all tables reserved for snackers

The staff were very friendly and the decor was great.

You do not stay in the Old Barn but in an off building which seems quite new, however constructed poorly. We stayed downstairs in this two storey building. But please be warned, you will go to bed when the people above you decide to sleep and you will wake up when they do. We could hear individual words in their conversation, full details of them using the toilet and floorboards that creaked so loudly that you will get so wound up. Basically you are screwed if you sleep downstairs. Everything else was great.

Evening meal could have been hotter. I beleive this could have been down tothe kitchen being some distance from the resturant/bar. Extractor fan in bathroom ran on for quite a long time after light was switched off.

All staff were very friendly. Location is good. Rooms clean and well appointed

Dinner was a bit pricey. Rooms not very well soundproofed - I was in Room 5 and could hear people moving around above and next door to me.

This hotel is beautifuly presented. Great food and good size rooms. Excellent english/welsh breakfast. The staff in this hotel were very professional and friendy. Highly recommend especially if you are a frequent buisness traveller or holiday maker. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Nothing. We intended on going out for our meals but decided to stay as the food and atmosphere was too good to miss.

It was very clean, the staff were very friendly and the evening meal was very nice, I would definitely recommend it x

The spacious, comfortable room.All the staff were very friendly,obliging and generally efficient (but one young waitress forgot our bottle of wine). The food was good for the price. Some very nice biscuits and Welsh beverages in the bedroom, good quality teas at breakfast. Excellent location for visiting the old Roman settlements at Caerleon also Caerwent, Tyntern Abbey,Chepstow and Newport. Definitely recommend it.

The real ales in the bar weren't quite up to scratch.

The manager went above and beyond and actually drove us to the celtic manor resort in the evening to save us getting a taxi.

The staff were professional, but friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was lovely, very enjoyable. The location was very quiet.

The extractor fan in the bathroom had an annoying rattle so didnt use the main light at night, the plates were cold at breakfast so the food went cold very quickly.

Reception was extremely friendly and the room itself was excellent. The decor was very comfortable and relaxing. We liked the mirror in Room 2 so much that we have asked where we could buy one for our own home.

All of it, staff were excellent, polite and friendly. Rooms were wonderful, loved the decor and the bed was so comfy. Food and service in the evening and breakfast couldn't be faulted.

Onl;y one member of staff trying to serve both at the bar and register guests on arrival. I waited a good ten minutes before I got the keys to my room. Could do with a bell on reception desk

Breakfast was cold because of a mistake in how the eggs were served. But only a minor point.

Rooms were a good size and modern. 8 of us had a meal and all thought is was excellent. Big portions and very tasty. Good choice of beers too. Friendly staff. Excellent value overall.

Staff were warm and welcoming, food was excellent, we stayed in the Penhow Suite which was fantastic , lovely countryside views (if you ignore the motorway) . Definately recommend staying here , we will be again !!

Couldn't afford a week in the Suite !!
