In the small village of Great Clifton, on the west coast of the Cumbrian Lake District, this charming inn was converted from a 17th-century farmstead and offers comfortable, characteristic accommodation. The Old Ginn House Inn offers quality en-suite accommodation, with newly refurbished rooms. Some bathrooms have also been refitted. The Old Ginn House has a cosy lounge where you can relax with comfy sofas and chairs, television and a choice of books and magazines. There is a well-stocked bar and atmospheric dining areas which serve an extensive menu that includes traditional home-cooked fare and more varied cosmopolitan dishes. On warmer days and nights the courtyard patio offers a wonderful ‘al fresco’ area to enjoy a drink. The Old Ginn House Inn provides an ideal base for business guests, or for those visiting the unspoilt Western Lake District and the Solway Coast. Inn: 19 rooms The most recent booking for this hotel was made on 18 May at 03:13 from Australia.

Rooms & meals were very adequate. The staff were extremely pleasant, but more information regarding meals etc. would have been appreciated on arrival. Restaurant service was poor in that we were never given an option to eat other than in the bar in the evening. Breakfast on Saturday morning was chaotic. There was so much noise and my husband had finished his cooked breakfast while I was still waiting for my Continental Breakfast. Surely the latter can be prepared and perhaps served by a buffet. The next morning the croissant was so undercooked and soggy it was inedible. Also on the Saturday morning the table we were shown to was cleaned while we sat at it. There was no cutlery, butter etc. Such a shame these discrepancies rather destroyed a break which we had looked forward to. It was sad that a pleasant few days were destroyed by such things.

The accomodation is clean, comfortable and friendly. The price is resonable and the breakfast is amazing. Evening meals are good but not all homemade. Televisions in the rooms are far too small for an old git with dodgy eye sight.

Friendly staff Very noisy with the constant slamming of the outside door late into the night and early the following morning. Voices from the adjoining room could also be heard.

Not a lot. No hot water on first night and it was too late to change rooms. Changed room the following day. Could not turn the sink taps off with wet hands. Had to dry hands first, then turn taps off and then dry hands again. Breakfast was not good. Cumberland sausage was more fat and gristle than meat.

Visited mid-December and the rooms were really cold as staff turned down the heating in the day. We had to return to the room at lunchtime and turn all radiators back up so it was warm enough at night. Myself and the manager of my company shared a family room for more space and got a phone call from the staff at the hotel during our work time to ask if we had more people staying in the room as all three bedsheets were wrinkled. We had infact had to sit on the third bed in order to see the poor television set in the room. This was quite off-putting to receive this phone call.

Comfortable and good food. Very noisy doors for every room in the bedroom block when clicking shut (very strong springs?); also for the entrance door into the block. This was said to be because of fire regulations, but I have not experienced such loud noises in other hotels as the various doors around my room clicked shut. However, as this did not go on into the night, my night's sleep was not disturbed. Also room walls and ceiling must have been thin because I could hear the goings on in adjacent bedrooms (alongside and above) eg extractor fans, phone calls, the noise of showers.

Friendly welcoming staff. Good service. The room was not well prepared, and was musty - the roof lights were a challenge to open. The bathroom was showing signs of age and could do with a refit.

Interesting, characterful public rooms. Good food. I only stayed for one night (Lunch,D B & B) to break a 400ml drive to attend the funeral of a friend I had known for over 60yrs. A potentially sad journey. However, the friendly reception, help & service received from the receptionist & general factotem, Louise, made the overall trip enjoyable. Despite the rain! I hope the management appreciate what a valuable staff member she is.
