We were very disappointed when we arrived as the female who we spoke to barely said hello and simply looked us up on her records, taking us across to the Paper Mills Inn to our room. There was no parking at the Paper Mills so we had to carry our luggage from the Old Hall Inn car park. There was no offer of help. Our room, although very pleasant, was right by the road which, although not busy, had a garage across the road which could be quite noisy. This did close at about 6.45pm. I had arranged for a bottle of Prosecco to be delivered to our room as it was my husband's birthday. This did not materialise and I had to go and ask for it. No apology was given. On the 2nd night we went out for a meal and on our return at 10.15pm there was loud music in the bar below our room and there was clearly a very lively crowd making a lot of noise. We endured this until 11.40 when I then went down into the bar and explained that we had paid good money for our room but were unable to sleep because of the noise. The person I spoke with was very apologetic and within 10-15 minutes the bar had been cleared and it was quiet. For me, a very disappointing trip on what was supposed to be a special time for my husband. I'm sure it would have been much better if we had stayed in the Old Hall Inn.
Our room was in the Paper Mills (we had hoped to be in the Old Hall Inn as this was further away from the road and seemed quieter). The room was clean, bright and had everything we needed. We had dinner at Old Hall Inn on the Tuesday evening and this was very good.
