Good range of dinner courses and attentive service. Convenient for Durham.
the welcoming staff extensive choice of meals in restaurant comfortable bed clean room excellent shower
two flights of steep stairs to bedroom
Clean Modern rooms Friendly staff Large menu Great food and big portions Nice atmosphere in bar
This is a well kept Inn conveniently located a short distance from Durham. We were given a warm welcome by the staff who were genuinely interested in looking after us. The food is excellent with massive portions and a good range to select from.
The only downsides were that the Wifi was slow and there is quite a lot of traffic and railway noise which means you can't sleep peacefully with the window open.
Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, excellent restaurant, value for money
Proximity to the road, traffic noise from soon after 6.00am
Everything from the staff, location to Durham and surrounding areas. Food was good pub food with plenty of choice. Good Value
Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room. Quiet location and excellent Restraunt, which we came back to the following night even though we weren't staying there.
The home cooked breakfast was excellent, and the restaurant facility had a large choice of meals at other times. I was slightly concerned about road noise, but the road was very quiet at night and we didn't have any problem.
We had a bit of trouble getting there, with road closures on a main road not registered on our SAT NAV. The room and ambience felt more like a large hotel than a guest house, and lacked character, but had everything we needed.
Excellent food, comfortable bedrooms, attentive staff!
Wifi very slow at times
stayed here for three nights whilst visiting my son ,loved the inn itself very nice clean room and the food was excellent ate here on our second night enjoyed the meal so much i took my son and his wife to dinner here the next, unfortunately cannot mark my stay higher due to one or two down sides which i have also listed ,if not for these i would have given it top marks.
Very noisy traffic from about six in the morning including heavy lorries going to and from the quarry ( i presume ) also our first meal at the inn the waitress brought us the desert menu then forgot to come back and take our order , after about forty minutes while we finished our drinks we went to the bar paid , complained , and left . a couple we made friends with had asked for a morning paper but did not get theese on the first two mornings ,its small things like this that do count , We had asked for a quite room if possible but felt like we were in the noisiest ( room 4 ) . would stay here again if we could get a little bit of a lie in but our first experience tells us this will not happen its a shame as we did like the inn ( 10 out of 10 for the food )
Excellent hotel, in a good location fro Durham and the A1. Great staff, for whom nothing was too much trouble.
The shower wasn't very powerful, to the point we would think before staying again. This is a shame as other than this it is an excellent hotel.
Great food, very extensive menu. Comfortable, clean rooms.
nice size room with good wifi. food is well cooked and very very lrge portions wont have a starter next time
Very large and good selection of food choices.
The road outside leads to a quarry lots of heavy lorries early morning.
The hotel was handily located about 6 kms and only 5 minutes south of Durham, a town that is difficult to park in. The room was very spacious, with a very good tea and coffee making bar, replenished daily. There was a large, modern bathroom. The food in the pub-style restaurant downstairs had something for everyone. There was a security system letting guests into the accommodation section, thus offering privacy from casual diners in the restaurant. There was good wireless internet, with no logon or password required. Nothing was too much trouble for the helpful staff who were eager to please and responded quickly to any request for assistance. The two Australians with whom I was travelling opined that this was the best bed-and-breakfast/ small private hotel accommodation they had ever had in the UK, with facilities closer to 4.5 stars rather than the rated 4. Given the level of facilities I would agree with my compatriots that The Old Mill reflects value for money. I feel The Old Mill gives me a motive to find more conferences and events to attend in Durham, so that I can sample this pleasant hotel again!
My only reservation about The Old Mill is the stairs. The building being a converted Mill, there are two steep flights of stairs with narrow treads and high risers, which must be negotiated to get to the main accommodation. As far as I am aware, there was no lift. Whilst this posed no problems for a fit forty-something, I would hesitate to bring anyone over 70 on holiday here.
friendliness of staff......excellent food........lovely big rooms.........great pub
it was just a little to far out of Durham and although bus service to Coxhoe....it couldn't get to Old Mill due to low bridge. However staff where on hand to book taxis as and when required.
Excelent location, Friendly staff and comfortable room.
nothing to complain about here
Staff were friendly, helpful and informative. Booking problem was sorted quickly. Good value for money
We'd booked a double room but were allocated a single. Wasn't a problem as a double was available, but might have been..... Only one set of towels in the room, and various items that the info said would be there, weren't - eg sewing kit, etc. Didn't matter to us, but don't say it will be there if it's not! Breakfast fine but unimaginative.
Large, comfortable room which was very clean. Excellent breakfast
A little further from Durham City centre than I realised but worth it for the unique setting
Very comfortable, great food and reasonable price.
Slightly too far outside Durham.
lovely place great owners and staff. Really helpful with gluten free food too
Our room was too hot as the towel rail was stuck on. The staff were really helpful though and did fix it in the end
Great food in the hotel. Quiet location. Excellent staff
Great greeting from the team and lovely food and great big portions to.
Good old fashioned service. Excellent service. Very polite and helpful.
