Grasmere House is just a short walk from Salisbury and offers superb cathedral views. The fine Victorian house is situated on the banks of the rivers Avon and Nadder, and surrounded by mature gardens.
Score from 327 reviews Very good
The Old Mill is atmospheric and laid-back, marvellously situated 10 minutes walk away from Salisbury centre. We had an extended weekend, celebrating 60-years birthday with children and a grandchild. Everyone had a good time. Food was excellent, the staff were cheerful, kind and helpful. A memorable stay.
Refurbishments were ongoing, and caused some inconveniences, such as lack of hot water in some rooms.
A historic place, owner changed and is now under renovation. After renovation will be a beautiful place.
Staff / service could not be faulted. Lovely atmosphere in the bar; lots of locals and guests. Fantastic location and superb breakfasts (black pudding a bit tough for me but it's all a matter of taste)!
Rooms a bit 'tired' and rather intermittent hot water supply, but new owners already in a radical refurb. programme.
This hotel is currently undergoing a refurbishment but this should not put anyone off - the staff were excellent and the facilities very good
Once we'd found the hotel, it's location was good for visiting Salisbury. Dinner was delicious. The staff were helpful but disorganised but did give us free drinks with dinner to compensate for messing us around.
Hotel was very hard to find at night - very secluded location & no exterior lighting . Ongoing renovations & change of ownership made check-in chaotic. Room not fully equipped - no batteries in tv remote & no electric jug. Poor shower & shabby bedroom. Once the renovations are complete, this could well be a lovely place to stay but only then.
Location, staff, food
Refurb going on so a bit disruptive
We had a superior double room and the bed and towels were excellent. We are looking forward to revisiting the hotel when all the renovations are complete and the kitchen is fully functioning. The breakfast was as tasty as any full English we have had, and the staff were very polite and helpful.
I think you mean '200 characters maximum'!
Staff were very welcoming and helpful, great location and short walking distance to centre. Lovely breakfast in the morning, opted for the fry up! Will visit again!
The situation of the hotel The Food Comfortable Room Very Clean Superb View
Although the view down the river was beautiful, the rushing water was very noisy and disturbed sleep. Also room over the outside of the pub where people were sitting at tables. So you could hear them talking until late into the night/early hours
The location over the River Avon can't be beat - just lovely, and the walk into the city center with views of the Cathedral was really enjoyable.
Everything else was really disappointing. The beds were very old and uncomfortable, we had to chase numerous spiders our of our room, and hooks and fixtures were broken and just left on lying on shelves. Hotel really needs a remodel. Staff was friendly, but absent at check-out time - 8 AM is not that early!
Great location for a pleasant stroll into Salisbury
Hittting my head off the low beams
Position, staff, food, scenery
Noise (see above) Floors creaked a lot and you could hear people above. No lift, stairs difficult for carrying heavy suitcases
What a location! Beautiful nearby walk across the watermeadows in the steps of the poet/priest George Herbert from his church in Bemerton to the cathedral. What a view from the breakfast table window! Friendly, smiling, well-informed staff. V good that we could check in at 1300 and leave at 1100. Attractive fresh flowers in the dining room entrance.
location, location, location Bar History of the place
room was a bit dated
It felt like being in the countryside, but you could walk to the centre of Salisbury in 10 minutes. The food in the restaurant was very good, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful
Historic building. Location by stream with ducks and swans. Nice walk on town path into Salisbury.
Insufficient and harried staff. Marginal cleaning standards inside and out. Tired furniture in room and questionable plumbing in bathroom. Price too high for value received.
A very characterful old hotel/pub on the river in perfect location for visiting enchanting Salisbury and the nearby sights (Stonehenge, Avebury, Stourhead). Just 15 minutes scenic walk to the centre of town featuring iconic views of the cathedral across the water-meadows. Room was quite spacious and the bed was comfortable. Very quiet at night. Plenty of good eateries in town.
The smell in the restaurant where we had breakfast (perhaps inevitable after its centuries of use as a mill).
Great setting, great ambiance, good location. Children had fun in the water.
Overpriced. One room was way too hot and we couln't cool it off. The other one next to it was fine.
Food was excellent for dinner and they catered well for gluten free. Staff were friendly. Building was packed with oak beams. My room was cool despite the hot weather. Location was really beautiful set down a footpath with just the sound of rushing water to send me to sleep. Crystal clear water that was popular with the local kids and dogs.
The bed was far too soft for a hotel with otherwise good facilities. The bath was a bit chipped and the room looked dated. But that didn't matter as the charm of the place outweighed the faults.
The location was perfect for us, about a 3/4 mile walk from the town of Salisbury which was very quaint. English countryside with lush greenery, sheep, ducks and songbirds, lovely! An excellent breakfast!
Only bad part was what you may find in Europe in General, smallish rooms and shower challenges, but far worth it for the setting!
The welcome was fantastic , very friendly and accommodating. We ate in the restaurant where the food was amazing. Would definately stay again lovely hosts and wonderful staff. Location simply stunning, gorgeous little find.
Could have done with better fan in room
I had great stay, with good food and ale.
Badly managed understaffed Grubby tatty accomodation
