The Old Mill Hotel And 12th Century Restaurant

I put a note on Trip Advisor. It read "overpriced, pretentious and website inaccuracies". That about covers it. Not recommended at all. My grading is poor overall with possibly 1 star at best.

The website inaccuracies were: This hotel is not on the River Avon, its on the River Nadder. The rooms are small and need refurbishment. The double glazing is not working and the windows don't close. The mill race outside is very noisy. I do not believe this is a family run hotel as when speaking to the staff they had to phone the owners to get advice. I believe the owners also own the Legacy Rose and Crown although am uncertain.

The venue/setting was lovely (overlooking the river) and our room was fine. Only drawback (partly my fault as I did not say my husband only had use of 1 arm) was that we were on the top floor and the stairs were hard to negiotate for him as only one bannister which did not reach right to the top of the stairs and narrow stairs. Not really suitable for disabled. Breakfast was fine-usual cereals, fruit juice and choice of cooked english. Shame about the weather-we were hoping to walk along the town walk on the Sunday morning but it was tipping it down.

We loved the location and history. The hotel itself is romantic. It has a wonderful feel to it. The views were stunning, The breakfast was outstanding. We were made to feel welcome. It is ideally placed for walks and also shopping. Have no hesitation recommending it, and family have previously stayed frequently here. It is fair to say it is always a magical experience,, regardless of the weather! Something very different and reasonably priced. Well Done.

Unfortunately, we arrived 5-10 mins late after meals were no longer being served. We had travelled from Guernsey which had taken hours and were delayed by plane and train (not our fault), The weather was horrendous, we were very wet, tired and hungry. We would have appreciated the offer of basic food, chips, sandwich, anything!! Instead we had to locate a place to eat in the town. This cut into our time at the Old Mill which was a shame as it was a surprise 21st present for my girlfriend, and the whole point was to stay as long as possible at The Mill.

Our second stay in 5 Months and won’t be our last at The Old Mill, because we find the place so relaxing, full of charm and character; just a short stroll from the Centre of Town through the water meadows. The Restaurant, attached is also an excellent reason just to go.

Proximity to beautiful area and also not too far from shopping for visitors. Historical history very important.

Changes made to hotel since our last visits. Waterwheel removed and cobblestones paved over spoiling the old world charm of the building. Expensive for two nights stay at 200 pounds sterling. We did not get breakfast included with that exhorbitant price.

Wonderful setting by river and for cathedral and city.Friendly,efficient,very helpful staff and management.Comfortable,well appointed room.Good value for money.
