Score from 218 reviews Very good
Nice cosy environment. Great location with many walks within easy reach.
No WIFI coverage in the accommodation.
Excellent location. The staff, with the notable exception of the landlady/manageress,were polite, friendly and obliging.A very convivial atmosphere in a traditional country pub steeped in character. The "cottage" (it was actually a flat) was reasonably priced at £600 for six nights, and we were given the same flat for the six nights whereas we had booked a separate smaller one for the first two nights. For these reasons we would probably go again.
The attitude of the landlady/manageress, and the need for repairs/replacements in the "cottage". Firstly, the electric shower insisted on being either freezing or scalding hot without warning- urgent attention required.Secondly, three of the four doors couldn't be closed properly, and their hinges squeaked loudly due to lack of lubrication. Also the cold tap in the bathroom needs repair. We were told in advance that towels and bedding were provided, but were given only two large and two small towels (for six people). When I asked for another the landlady said it would be "chargeable". The pub food was adequate but meagre and overpriced,a portion of lasagne being very dry and chip portions being particularly small. Finally,we parked in the "residents only" car park, but were asked to move "before the manager comes back" because the space was reserved and the manager's wrath would be incurred .There was no visible indication of this being a reserved space.
Comfy beds Welcome pack Amazing scenery
no wifi or phone signal (didn't really mind though)
Beautiful central location. Price. Amenities & cleanliness of accomodation. Pub attached to apartment. Friendly manager & pub staff.
Only 1 allocated parking space per apartment. Sofa bed uncomfortable.
Kinder Cottage was very comfortable for 2, and would be fine for 3, but could be a bit crampred for more.
Late opening in the morning (10am) made it difficult to hand over baggage to our courier.
Location delightful Cottage clear and well equipped food -in pub was excellent
Water in shower tray extremely slow to drain away and any water running too long, would cause it to flood over top of the tray. It also means every shower taken involves alot of paddling In used soap Sud water.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great location. The cottage had most things we needed.
The small bedroom window was directly above the bins, being warm we didn't want to open it. The shower needs attention. There was a charge of £3 per each set of towels.
Location is excellent
Description of 6 bed cottage turned out to be very small flat above pub kitchen, access was up very steep stone steps next to the bins. Food was poor and empty plates & glasses left for hours outside, Jackdaws loved it! No-one asked if the food was okay - poor service.
No towels at the lodging.
The location is superb, you can start walks straight from the doorstep and it has a good connection to Sheffield via the local railway line.
This is not a cottage but a very small appartment, situated just above the Pub's kitchen. The living room and bathroom smell of frying fat. Chairs are falling apart and surfaces are greasy. Staff is unhelpful and not flexible with regard to handover of keys. The appartment is for 4 persons, far too small for 6.
Very cozy pub, great beer, decent food and good location right on the start of the Penine Way.
The staff was very preoccupied to serve the dinner guests, and were quite irritated when their help was needed with other problems. Helping the customer in finding a solution (we wanted an extra blanket) was not in their scope, instead I was just told I should have read the description on internet better. Furthermore, bed comfort was very poor, and the sleeper sofa was outright horrendous.
The staff in the Nag's head were friendly and welcoming. The pub did provide one reserved parking space for us, with a public space available for the other.
The electric shower provided a varying temperature and the shower tray filled with water, limiting the length of time for a shower.
. A perfect location for a walking weekend. Great for a group of friends who wanted brilliant location with decent accommodation, food and beer.
Great value for money, very helpful and friendly staff. Great location for walking, lovely food and good beer
The cottage was lovely and well equipped.
The heating was broken and the shower cold.
The food in the pub was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. The cottage we stayed in was comfortable, warm and cosy and had everything we needed. Lovely surroundings.
The cottage was clean and quiet.
The shower was not powerful enough.
Very helpful staff. The food in the pub was very good and the beer even better. A perfect location for a walking weekend.
Location was good
As residents of one of the adjoining cottages it would have been nice to have been able to book a table to ensure we could eat with friends that had met up with us for the day. We did ask if this was possible due to us being a party of 8 people but apparently we couldn't book. This meant hanging around for some time with 4 hungry children before a suitable table became available. It would have been less stressful if we could have booked - especially as we had spent a decent amount hiring the accommodation to start with.
Good location for hikers/ramblers.
Cottage quite small for 5 of us and needs some upgrading as it is quite basic. Very clean though.
The location, the food, the beer and surprisingly the February weather.
Oven was a bit dirty
Staff and location.
Advertised as a cottage, but in fact was a small appartment. In need of modernisation.
The staff were very helpful and welcoming. New Year's Eve in the Old Nag's Head was perfect. The "cottage", which was actually a tiny flat, was ideal for the three of us (we had my husband's mother with us - no space for that in the first question) and well enough equipped for a short stay.
The window in the living room of the "cottage" did not shut properly. We had to pack it with cling film to stop the icy draught coming in.
