Staff were helpful and polite, room was clean and bed was comfy
Bathroom was very cold, and food in restaurant (we ate in one evening) was basically "fair to middling".
Stand outside the front door in the evening and look up at the Cathedral, lit up and looking magnificent. Great old hotel and fantastic location. It's old it's got ruins outside it overlooks the cathedral and there are bars and restaurants within a very short walk.
Where was the ghost?
A tucked away hotel in the heart of historic uphill Lincoln making for a great base to explore. The hotel is full of character and very comfortable. I had a good nights sleep and a tasty breakfast. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Fantastic view of Cathedral
The excellent service on check in, location and overall ambience.
the proximity to the cathedral and very quiet.
the window rattled! nowhere to put your sponge bag in the bathroom.
Hotel staff were amazing,we felt like we were the most important people ever to have stayed there! Restaurant food was very good, more than adequate breakfast and a lovely warm, cosy room.
Couldn't get a wi-fi signal at all in our room, was told the system was due for an upgrade.
position and architecture
Dining room wall paint a horrible colour
Our room was in the lodge,an old church in the grounds. Stunning views over the city and the cathedral. Room so quiet, not even the sounds of the bells could be heard. Parking was free and breakfast lovely. Locally sourced ingredients. Staff very friendly
The room was fabulous! So old and atmospheric! Great location near the cathedral.
The drainage in the bathroom was poor, water slow to go in the sink, toilet and bath on view to people walking by. Breakfast was mediocre and had hair in the mushrooms. Poor for the price of £156.
We stayed in room 1, the blue room. It was a beautiful suite, very spacious, stunning decor. Lovely bathroom and provided with everything you'd need. We ordered breakfast to the our room at no extra cost, we had a full English, it was a good standard breakfast, lots of toast and jams. Location was 30 seconds from the cathedral and 15 min walk into the town centre. We ate at chimichangas on the water front, the best Mexican I have ever had. Overall a wonderful stay.
Unfortunately the WiFi did not work in our room, we informed reception on our departure and they told us there were having difficulties. The walls are not the thickest so noise is a little bit of a problem. The 15minute intervals of the cathedral bells can also be heard throughtout day and night however the hotel had done everything they could to cancel out the noise with shutters, it is expected being so close but if you are a light sleeper you will have problems.
service was excellent food was very good
This hotel is in a beautiful location right next to the Cathedral. The staff were very friendly and we had a lovely big comfortable room. Breakfast was delicious with lots of local produce.
Stayed in the old chapel - detached building from the main hotel. Great conversion, very quaint, very relaxing. Right slap bang in the middle of the cultural part of Lincoln at the top of the hill - wonderful !!
No proper bar just lounge service, lounge music was one track - classical version of wonderwall... over and over again !!! breakfast took ages to arrive at the table >45mins.
Location, room was clean, bed comfy.
No bath (single room). No wifi in room so I couldnt work. Also breakfast was served too late (8am on a Sunday). As I needed to get to work I really needed breakfast serving at 7am.
Location, style, furnishings, bathroom, views, breakfast and staff
Cold, central heating not working in room, warmer in corridor!
Staying in a real old palace/castle! It certainly was that. The very top windows with the view straight on the Lincoln Cathedral. Breathtaking at night when the lights are on, just before dusk when the sky, the palace and the surrounding gardens create a unique atmosphere. Lovely breakfast. Very quiet and private, definitely a place we will return to stay in. Right in the heart of the town, but the stores, you need to go down the little winding roads, it's steep-ish but well, good for your health! Amazing stay, amazing atmosphere!
As usual..the bathtub is absent but sadly the shower had some issues too...Why does it have to be stuck in one place..what if a person doesn;t like the water to be pouring down at all times...especially ladies..if you have long hair, it will turn into a long affair! Good luck with the hot water too. And well, WIFI...WiFi was non-existent, even though we did inquire about it before booking. Such a price and place, you would expect this should not even be a problem to encounter once you arrive. But in the end, still, great location and a terrific view, if you are staying for a week or less, I guess you can survive, if you don't have to check you personal or business mail that is.
Lovely location and impressive old buildings, albeit in need of some TLC.
The bed was so worn out, springs pressing though and two dips (where 2 people had slept!) Staff on reception weren't particularly bothered, just said I could have moved in the middle of the night, or that I should delay my departure and speak to housekeeping! (Can't they do that themselves?) No hint that they would get some new beds, or any compensation. You have been warned!
The building was fantastic, the location was great, it was nice to be near the cathedral and view this from our room
The cathedral is near by so the bells are a nuisance sounding every 15 minutes from 7am to 9am. Some areas grubby, needs decorating
Location and the friendliness of the staff.
As a single female traveller, I thought it was a bit isolated at night as there were no restaurants nearby. Had to walk through dark passages and around the Cathedral to go elsewhere.
A country house in the heart of the cathedral quarter of Lincoln. Spacious and comfortable with very capable and friendly service. Seems to provide an experience of a more gracious age.
A wonderful historic building in a fabulous location. a Nice room with a lovely view out of arch windows. The staff were generally attentive.
We were not told about coming in after 11pm, no one answered reception and we were freezing! Kippers were on the breakfast menu- We were looking forward to this from perusing the menu when we arrived, only to find out - after the waitress had asked us what we would like- that they were out of kippers! You would have known how many guests were having breakfast, and should have made sure every guest could have had kippers if they wanted!Very disappointed!
Stunning location and beautiful building.
emergency lighting in my room meant it was like sleeping with the lights on. I realise that it is an old building but the wifi was only available in the lounge. Lift was dirty and smelt, and access to the breakfast room was through the kitchen corridor which could do with a tidy up. There was a lack of information regarding hotel facilities - check out / drinks in the lounge or even history of the building. As this was not a budget hotel I expected a little bit more.
Location was great. Staff were excellent, very polite and professional. Car parking was free.
excellent breakfast - helpful staff at reception car park accessible and right by entrance room and bathroom v clean
no bar - was to be served in lounge, but no-one turned up a bit pricey and pretentious
