The room we stayed in was excellent, with very thing you needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was also very good
We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and our accommodation at the back was peaceful, spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was perfect with the fresh eggs! We liked the ability to come and go as we pleased and there is a resident's lounge although we were to busy to use this.We were recommended to the nearby restaurant(the Kitchen Cupboard?) which was terrific for meals! A lovely stay and we will be back next time in this area.
I have to say I was initially disappointed to find the Old Rectory was not in the centre of a small quiet village beside the church and with the village pub a wander across the road. I should have looked at Street View! However there is a wonderful walk into immediate countryside down Church Lane and you can find a pub in the next village a goodish walk away. Don't get lost like we did nor go on a Monday as we did. The Pub is shut Mondays! The Old Rectory location is good to travel around this area by car though just lacks that Pub next door to avoid the driver having a teetotal stay.
Beautiful house, very tasteful interior, very clean, all round quality, from the welcoming when we arrived to the day we left. Would stay again and would definitely recommend, well worth a stay.
friendly family& welcoming, relaxing atmosphere, ideal location for our stay, yummy Yorkshire breakfast with homemade jam.
The building is a mid eighteenth century former rectory with masses of original features and oodles of charm. The bedrooms are large, decorated to match the provenance of the house and the beds big and comfortable enough to get lost in! Breakfasts are just what you need to get your day going in the best possible way.
Perhaps (only perhaps) the electric shower in our room could have been more flexible to operate.
The Old Rectory was a real find. A lovely building decorated with excellent taste. Our room was delightful with everything you could need especially the really comfortable bed. It's run by a friendly couple who were most accommodating and Breakfast was delicious. The only downside was that we had to leave!
This old building was beautiful outside and even better inside. Really friendly family run business. Would recommend to anyone.
Everything was really lovely. The owners and family, the room, the eggs from their own chickens we could see as we parked our car, and the lovely Emma Bridgewater crockery!!
Spacious, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was great.
Very close to busy road.
Excellent host, great breakfast. Really well located for local towns, travel, food and trekking. Our host was great, and offered good advice and maps of the region. Beautiful house, lovely rooms and view.
Nothing. Excellent all round.
We loved the old building itself, the friendly, welcoming host and our great room with super facilities. The breakfast was awesome!
To stay in the Old Rectory where my great, great, Grandfather John M Higginson was Rector of Thormanby from June 1836 to May 1895. An overwhelming experience. John B Higginson
Fabulous luxury guest house with tastefully decorated unique bedrooms. Paul and Rachel are great hosts.
Friendly owners and great place.
They have made this lovely old house a delightful place to stay.
Large room with good flat screenTV. Good parking at rear of property.
Bed a bit low and lumpy.Notices on everything eg switch off the light and wipe your feet plus others.
Friendliness and tried to make your stay very pleasant. Where to visit and to eat were spot on
The friendly owners of the Old Rectory have created a beautiful property interior to share with guests. It is very peaceful, the food is good and the accommodation is both tasteful and comfortable. There are plenty of excellent restaurants close by and a 12th century church up the lane which has links with the house.
Nothing to dislike.
Breakfast, comfortable bed, spacious room, friendly staff.
The owners were very friendly and extremely helpful. Our brother became unwell on the first evening and Paul the owner took him to the hospital, stayed with him for 2 hours before he was admitted. This was way beyond his call of duty- exceptionally kind.
The shower in our bedroom had very poor pressure and the toilet difficult to flush. For the price of room we feel this was not up to standard.
Location to York , authenticity of home, Original fittings a delight. Great breakfast.
Everything was really well presented. Immaculate a credit to the owners.
It's not that I disliked anything. It's just a suggestion to have some kind of bar for guests
Very pleasant & friendly couple, so helpful
Lovely old building that is 300 years old. The place was just stunning. The family were so welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this lovely place to all my friends and family. Fantastic service and beautiful breakfast.
Warm reception. Beautiful room and a fantastic breakfast.
