Nestled in the Eskdale Valley, Bower House is 4 miles from the Cumbrian coast. This 17th century inn offers superb food in its restaurant and rooms with en suite bathrooms.
Score from 93 reviews Very good
With stunning views of the surrounding fells The Strands Hotel/Inn sits in the heart of Wasdale Valley. All rooms are en suite and traditional Cumbrian food is on the menu.
Score from 66 reviews Fabulous
This peaceful 16th-century hotel is in the Western Lake District and has private, beautiful grounds and views towards the River Calder.
Score from 30 reviews Very good
Set in Nether Wasdale, with spectacular views over the Wasdale Valley, Low Wood Hall has comfortable rooms and a warm welcome.
Score from 43 reviews Fabulous
Very clean and well maintained. Owners are friendly and helpful providing special breakfast even at 6am. Location is very quiet, though the views would be best appreciated outside winter. Local discounts arranged with local restaurants.
Road access is a bit bumpy but not intolerable.
The attention to detail and a very warm welcome. Breakfast fantastic and the whole holiday was just brilliant. Fully recommended.
My wife and I spent three nights here, wish we could have stayed longer. Lesley is without doubt the perfect hostess and runs a top notch B&B, nothing was ever too much trouble, ensuring we got the most out of our stay. Look forward to a return visit.
There was nothing to dislike
Friendly welcome, Lovely room, superb breakfast, overall top notch accommodation.
Room, breakfast, packed lunches, little treats and a great experience- thank you Lesley and John.
A superb location with excellent accommodation and hospitality
Fantastic location for a chilled out break. Lesley spoils you from the moment you walk through the door and provides really helpful advice and information about things to do and places to eat. We had a wonderful time and hopefully we'll return.
The accomadation was No 1. Location to the lakes was great, Wasdale lake is a hidden secret, comfortable place to stay.
Dirt road coming in and out..
Extremely warm and friendly welcome from the owners, nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic breakfast. Very comfy bedroom with all the usual facilities plus lots of extras just to make it more special. Beautiful quiet location
Friendly owner, everything provided, breakfast excellent
We chose to stay here while attending a wedding in the area. We were made to feel at home, extremely comfortable, and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was fantastic, location is great, we only wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended.
We had such a nice welcome and a perfect staying. Leslie, Maureen and John made us impossible to forget that night and half day we spent at their house. Beautiful surroundings (please visit the church close to the house, is son nice), plenty of nature and amazing views to the mountains of the lake district. Breathtaking breakfast, everything was care to the detail with love and devotion to the guest. Room, impressed by the little messages over our pillows and all the details to make our dreams sweet too. As i said to maureen, we will be back for sure.
Nothing but Being sad To end our holidays!
What's not to like ? Chocolate Strawberries, Home-made Rock-Cakes & Port in the Room on Arrival. Comfy Bed, excellent Brekky & some Home-made Flapjacks in the Room when we returned from our Day at Windermere. And Venezuelan Beaver Cheese, if requested. Like Nigel's Amp in Spinal Tap, The Old School goes up to 11.
Lesley & John, who run the B&B, open up their much loved and looked after home with such genuine enthusiasm that it is truly a shame to leave, so much so that we ended up staying another night unplanned! Absolutely nothing was too much for Lesley, giving hand written notes on the best local walks, suitable for all fitness levels, and information on the best places to eat (even reserving tables for you so you don't miss out on busy holiday weekends!) Lesley was unphased in meeting dietary requirements and made suitable cakes/treats not only on the first 'welcome' day but each afternoon; a welcome snack when you've been out walking fells all day! Lesley makes breakfasts fit for a king and even makes up packed lunches if wanted for all those long walks! As for location, the Western Lakes are practically untouched leaving visitors completely spoilt for choice. The Old School B&B is in an idyllic setting with outstanding views. We travelled all 4 corners of the Lakes in our 5 day stay but if you want to get away from it all, and see the true beauty of the Lake District, then head here to the Western Lakes for this hidden gem! Certainly not one to be missed. We will be back!
Beautiful house, great location, great food, going the extra mile for us booking our evening meals. Fantastic hospitality, great host, lovely friendly animals. Can't wait to go back next month.
Loved it all
Very friendly, great location, cottage had everything you could want for a few days stay in west Cumbria. Lovely breakfast. No complaints at all
Signpost off main road would be helpful!
The very genuine and warm welcome The food was superb The accommodation was spotless The beds were very comfy
There wasn't anything to dislike
peace and quite friendly hosts location
nothing to not like
Lesley was the perfect host. The area was great it was better than the more popular lake district as the walking and routes were nice and quiet.
Everything was just what we were looking for
very quiet environment at the end of a gravel road. owners are really taking care of you in particular the lady in charge. She is genuinely attentive and really does all she can to make you feel home and enjoying. small additional details shows she is going out of the way to make your stay exceptional like a piece of cake, a glass of port at arrival and nice pieces of homemade chocolate when you leave. breakfast a level higher than usual. A real cumbrian breakfast with first quality products
room noise insulation not perfect . You could hear television of the ground floor and people in the corridor. But this is very often the case in B&B. Gravel road leading to the B&B with a lot of potholes . There is no indications of B&B direction on the main road , only at the begin of the gravel road which itself is on a secondary road. But as said before owners try to make it an unforgettable stay and are proud of the rating they have and try hard to deserve it
Location, helpful staff, breakfast!
Excellent welcome and added extras such as a glass of port on arrival and a chocolate strawberry. Breakfast was very good.
Leslie & John are great host. Leslie will go out of her way to help and make you very welcolm. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The Old School and gardens are lovely with a view to die for, we would have loved to stay longer.
Unfortunately, because we were lucky enough to stay during the heatwave the room was stiflingly hot - a fan would have been a nice addition (this is not a criticism just a suggestion).
Location. Friendliness/Flexibility of Family. Would definitely stop again if in the area.
OMG what an amazing place! We loved everything about this fab B&B and we were looked after like part of the family!.We had simply the best time ever and were reluctant to head for home!.
