Excellent all round and home made breakfast was amazing!! Thank you!! Will definitely stay again!!
I liked the warm welcome from Liz and Mike. The Old School reflects their love of the place and there are many interesting facets to this lovely building. The food was lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
Lovely room. Really comfortable bed and loved the roll top bath.
Liz and Mike couldn't do enough for you. Loved how they have kept the old school theme right through the place. The food was excellent and nothing to much bother. Would love to visit again.
THE OLD SCHOOL, NEW CUMNOCK, AYR. Every year in May, I visit my Aunt Violet, in Ayr. I usually stay in a Premier Inn in Dumfries but they were all full, so I chose a hotel in Gretna, via booking.com, what a disaster ( not their fault ). The pictures were very old and a disco ‘till midnight......., room very tired. Fortunately I arrived at 1am, four hour delay on M6. I cancelled the 18th October, my Aunt's 100th Birthday, for my Wife and I . I and my wife, only stay in Hotels that have a bathroom, the same quality as we have at home in Suffolk. The Old School , is a completely different matter, to other Hotels , on the way we called to say we were running late ( M6 again ), no problem , we had booked dinner for the last call 8pm. Arrived in torrential rain, hosts at the door , freshened up and down for dinner ( well not actually down, it is all on one floor !), the lamb was delicious, could not manage the pudding. Only four bedrooms and so quiet, the rooms are very, very spacious.. WHY STAY IN ANY OTHER HOHEL IN AYR , WHEN YOU CAN AT THE OLD SCHOOL, at very reasonable rates. Having travelled all over the world for a major oil Company, this must rate up there with Sofitel !, even better it is not French. So quite, so friendly, breakfast to die for, must have bacon and eggs, after we left for Suffolk, no food ‘till we arrived home 450miles later!, did not need it. You must try it you will not be disappointed, so much so, I will book for my next visit in May 2015. Gavin
No dislikes at all, all Excellent
Every thing was superb The hosts are very welcoming rooms spacious food lovely and plenty of it all in all with the peace and quiet cannot be faulted
Would have liked a couple of news papers in the lounge
This was a most enjoyable place to spend a few days. Liz and Mike were great hosts and we had lovely breakfasts with homemade bread and preserves and eggs from their hens. A spacious and very comfortable room.
The fact that we had to leave.
This is one of if not the best b and b's we have stayed at. The house was beautiful and our room was gorgeous. Loved the furnishings- especially the big comfy bed and eagle claw bath. Breakfast was very tasty and the hosts very welcoming.
I was traveling with my father and brother to a family funeral. The Old School is in tranquil surroundings which suited us. Breakfast was excellent and staff really friendly. I loved the big room as we were able to sit together in the evening. Would highly recommend.
A warm welcome, a large comfortable room and excellent food.
Hospitality, great breakfasts, excellent accommodation and facilities.
Wifi was a bit slow but that is to be expected in a rural location.
We absolutely loved our little break at the old school. The room was huge, very well presented and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was first class and you couldn't ask for nicer hosts than Mike and Liz. We had problems with our car and they went well out of their way to help us out which was really good of them. Add to that the beautiful location that the old school sits in and you've got the best B&B in Ayrshire that you could possibly hope for. We ended up booking an extra night and can thoroughly recommend it to all other travellers.
Nothing, we'd book again in a heartbeat.
So much to rave about! The chickens, the ducks the geese, Whiskey. ..dog not drink!....the bed, the breakfast, the welcoming atmosphere, the whole interior. ...and best of all the hosts!
Having to leave......
The rooms are very nice. Time and attention has been paid to the restoration of the property.
Far too regimented with regards to the do's and don't's. And, they really scrimped on the cooked breakfast. I have never in my life been served a portion of black pudding and haggis the size of a ten pence piece with the skin on.
Absolutely beautiful stay - I would recommend to anyone staying the area. Nothing we asked for was a bother even early check in! Fabulous!
The uniqueness. Large rooms tastefully furnished. Lovely breakfast with new laid eggs and home made jams.
We were very impressed with the overall conditions, The owners were extremely friendly and made us very welcome. The room we had was called the Geography Room and was very comfortable and clean, lovely ensuite. can't fault the B/B at all.
Nothing at all
Room very large, bed comfortable, good facilities, lovely guest lounge. Staff friendly and welcoming. Excellent value.
A bit of a trek to find somewhere to eat in the evening. We should have booked to eat there, as they do do evening meals.
Lovely B&B, perfect location for our visit to the dark sky observatory. We stayed in The Geography classroom which was beautifully decorated. The stand alone Victorian bath was a real treat. We would stay here again if back in the area.
The Old School was in a quiet location in the countryside and the facilities were excellent. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The Scottish breakfast served was excellent.
Nothing, for a couple of pensioners wanting a quiet break it was an excellent base to return to after our days out exploring.
the staff were friendly, i also liked the style of the decor in the hotel. I had accidentally booked this hotel for an overnight, I had pressed wrong button thinking it was Lochside but I was pleasantly surprised.
Perfect! Best place I have ever stayed! It had so much character and was just a delight to be there. It really was great! The art class room where we were, was really special, it was big and really more than we we're expecting from a BnB. Breakfast was delicious and had a great selection even if I struggled to get up after a late night at our friends wedding! Liz was particularly lovely and makes up a brilliant team with Mike. When we arrived we were greeted by Mike who made us some tea and we were able to finally chill out in the drawing room and look out across the beautiful views that they have of the countryside.
Big rooms, very comfy beds. Excellent Service, very welcoming people, lovely environment. We will certainly go there again and recommend it to everyone we know!
